Nox Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 My guess is we ride him into the ground or let him walk via free agency. Sound asset management. Bautista is worth a certain number of wins multiplied by how much the bluejays value a win. Sometimes that amount is worth more than what is being offered by the market in prospect capital. In that case it is sound asset management to hold.

GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I don't disagree with anything you've said here. My comment was directed at Gibbers as he's completely dogmatic when it comes to hating older players. Obviously Bautista is declining. But he's declining from the best hitter in baseball to a mere star on a great contract. He makes it sound like he's not an asset and that's patently false. I wasn't saying he isn't an asset. I'm saying we could've moved him at his peak instead of watching something diminish in value on a team going nowhere. And anyone who thought he would've continued on his torrid out of nowhere pace is silly.
bronson44 Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I prefered the mobile version, everything became adjusted to my screen size and now my phone I have to zoom in to read text and its annoying But I'm not I'm sure how to go back The drop down menu at the bottom that says default, change to default mobile style

Those extra Bautista premium wins come in real handy on a non-playoff team.

And anyone who thought he would've continued on his torrid out of nowhere pace is silly. Even though last year did go nowhere, it did not project to preseason. Trading Bautista would have not made sense unless it was for significantly above his value. I don't think anyone was projecting Jose to be a 7/8 win guy.
Nox Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Those extra Bautista premium wins come in real handy on a non-playoff team. That's hindsight though. I hated last offseason's moves as much or more than anybody for their shortsightedness but it did get them to be a reasonable team going into last season. I think ZIPs had them at 90 wins. Steamer too. And if you don't like projection systems, almost every talking head considered them at least contenders for the AL East preseason. Once those mistakes were made, trading Bautista would have been tough.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I don't think anybody's complaining about having a 4/5 win guy patrol RF. Sorry bro, you have to be elite for 10 years before you're elite.
Nox Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Your joke fell apart when you said you got an email from Russia. They don't have the internetz. Nowhere did I say that the email was delivered through the internet. It came in a flashdrive via carrier pigeon.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Sorry bro, you have to be elite for 10 years before you're elite. ALA Mike Trout

Nox Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Bird flu must be a national crisis up there. Nothing like literally crippling communications with a virus. Mike Tyson trains their pigeons so they're resilient to basically everything. They also all have gambling problems.

If gibbers was gm, every player would be traded before their 25th birthday.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 How can everyone immediately write this off without knowing any of the particulars? There is only one particular you need to know to write off any trade: Andrew Friedman
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 If gibbers was gm, every player would be traded before their 25th birthday. So you're not a fan of what the Rays do?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 ALA Mike Trout Mike Trout is just Brady Anderson 2.0.
Nox Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 After thinking about this some more, I really hate the framework. Not only do we weaken the roster in 2014 and 2015, lose a year of control and move a bat for a more volatile asset, but we also put ourselves in a position where management likely feels pressure to hand out a massive extension after two years. $300 M for Price. What could possibly go wrong?

Nox Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 So you're not a fan of what the Rays do? They signed Longoria well into his 30s. Zobrist isn't young. Molina is fat AND old. So you're not a fan of what the Rays do?
Nox Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Is it hindsight when I called for a Bautista trade after his monster season? You also called for a trade before his monster season.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Mike Trout is just Brady Anderson 2.0. Trout's better looking.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 So you're not a fan of what the Rays do? How old are: Zobrist Hanigan Escobar Molina Scott Kelly Johnson etc. Plus, Longoria is signed long term and won't be traded.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Trout's better looking. I dunno, Brady had those awesome sideburns.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 You also called for a trade before his monster season. And during.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 You also called for a trade before his monster season. If I did, it must've been muddied in with the argument I had with Kofi about being used as a FT UTIL player at multiple positions. Link up the trade talk before his monster season, because I 100% remember wanting to use him as a FT Super UTIL.

You work at the mall at one of those kiosks hawking phones/plans/accessories for minimum wage, obviously.
