NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Of course the Dodgers are. Who are they going to send them lol. Zach Lee!! And Corey Seager maybe.
Holden Caulfield Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 No, it actually wouldn't. They are trying to build a contender and they haven't developed an Edwin and don't have one on the doorstep. If they need another bat to get them over the hump and they need to do it in a cost controlled manner then they will most likely deal from a strength, like young pitching, to fill the gap. Theoretically, what you're saying makes sense. But the Pirates have contended for the past two seasons and have still been unwilling to deal any of their major young pieces to push them over the edge. What makes you think that they would suddenly change their organizational philosophy this season, especially in light of already being connected to players like Adam Lind and Logan Morrison?
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Well part of that can be explained by the fact that catcher's pitch framing isn't properly calculated. All the TB pitchers are getting their K/BB boosted by Molina's fine work. Not sure exactly how many wins in Price's case but it's definitely a factor. In any case even if you credit Price with an extra win that really doesn't matter because the trade hinges on future performance not past performance. If you think Price can continue to perform at such a high level with his reduced velocity and once his BB/9 regresses to something sustainable and without elite pitch framing then you have a lot more faith in him than I do and certainly a lot more faith in him than I think you should have in EE. I'm really kind of stunned that someone is trying to pre-emptively defend this potential trade. Best case scenario this is just robbing Peter to pay Paul. Worst case scenario, Tampa gets out from the Price contract just when s***'s about to hit the fan (always more likely with pitchers than batters even those who didn't just experience a dramatic drop in fastball velocity). My issue is with the people slobbering all over Edwin like they did Bautista a few years ago, "he's the best".....and as Jose has turned into a declining asset, now is the time to trade him. These same people love the Rays model of trading guys when its time to move them. But when its in Blue Jay-land, "nope can't trade Bautista", "nope we can't trade Edwin".........I guess its the relationships they've conjured up with the players that prevents them from wanting to trade them.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I'd love to see you defend the Edwin-Anderson comp, baseless premise. Sorry dude, I look at things slightly bigger than one & two year sample sizes to crown someone elite.

Being dead set on keeping EE is wrong but trading him for not of equal value is the unquivocally the stupidest thing a bluejays gm can do.

But wouldn't you a agree that trading him for a player of equivalent value at best, who has less control and has probably already peaked is kind of pointless?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 I think my problem with this is not really value for value per say. I do think EE as more value due to his sexy sexy contract. I just can't wrap my head around trading to fill a hole when that trade is going to create another hole in the middle of the lineup during a year you are trying to compete. If we are going to compete we are going to need EE in the 3-4 spot.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 People aren't necessarily saying "keep Edwin at all costs, he's untouchable." They're saying "don't trade Edwin for Price." Big difference.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Being dead set on keeping EE is wrong but trading him for not of equal value is the unquivocally the stupidest thing a bluejays gm can do. I'd move him for 3 or 4 prospects and use the money saved to fill a portion of his lost production on the 25 man. I agree moving him for Price would be dumn. But come on, lets stop cherrypicking stats and framing things up here to suit an argument.

Big difference. Bingo, you can get better then a 2 years of Price on a team that will not compete for a championship. He will walk and we will have nothing for it other then two good to great years for a mediocre team
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 What if we were getting someone along with Price... Myers? Then Bautista replaces EE at 1B/DH.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 But wouldn't you a agree that trading him for a player of equivalent value at best, who has less control and has probably already peaked is kind of pointless? I agree, I'm all about re-stocking the farm with prospects and using the money saved elsewhere. My MO doesn't change like others on here does.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Zach Lee!! And Corey Seager maybe. Zach Lee went from overated to underrated lol. Him and Seager would actually be a decent package imo

You might as well 'what if' I woke up in the morning and Kate Upton was next to me naked. About the same chance of us getting Myers.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 lol Wilner. Wilner is is Weiner.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 lol. Havok, your avatar sums up my reaction.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 lol Wilner. If this goes down I can longer root for a team run by AA
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 This would make zero sense.. sign a free agent FFS
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 What if we were getting someone along with Price... Myers? Then Bautista replaces EE at 1B/DH. I'd do Price + Myers for EE (probably + as well) but I can't see TB making either of those deals.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 bwahahahahahah!!!! Haha, the good old days
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Would you do Myers straight up for Edwin? Maybe if they throw in Matt Moore too? I could get behind that.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Would you do Myers straight up for Edwin? I think so. I'd try and get a back-end pitcher with him though.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Maybe if they throw in Matt Moore too? I could get behind that. I'd do Moore and Myers for EE no doubt. I'm a huge believer in Moore though.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Lol @ Moore/Myers for EE... maybe if Friedman and AA switched teams first.
