Well, as a fan of both WWE and NBA, I can say that the former is less predictable, despite being scripted. Very sad. With that being said, baseball is miles ahead of both for me.
Coming out of the steroid era, where pitchers are now dominating a little more, this isn't such a bad idea to have a few of these guys around. It used to be much more prominent in baseball than it is today. Imagine throwing a knuckler in there when we need a spot start? Could throw the opponent off. And maybe we do find another Dickey at a much cheaper price this way.
Theoretically, what you're saying makes sense. But the Pirates have contended for the past two seasons and have still been unwilling to deal any of their major young pieces to push them over the edge. What makes you think that they would suddenly change their organizational philosophy this season, especially in light of already being connected to players like Adam Lind and Logan Morrison?
I can just envision Price having a great first half and us being able to trade him at the deadline (when teams are typically more desperate for pitchers rather than hitters) for a package infinitely better than we ever could have realistically gotten for Edwin.
That's what you want, and maybe that's even what Edwin should be worth, but that doesn't mean it's set in stone that a team would give up those type of players for him.
Isn't saying that Edwin is an elite hitter based off of his K% the past two seasons as fundamentally as flawed as saying Price is elite based on what he has done in seasons past?
If we acquired Price and he rebounded nicely, couldn't it be plausible that we'd be able to flip him at the deadline or next offseason for more than we could have acquired for Edwin?
