We are talking about potentially a 2 year window here and he's been pretty good in the AL East. He's old and it would only be a 1 year deal. I wonder if he'd be interested if the price were right?

Thoughts? AA is a short-term contract kind of guy, and Kuroda despite his age is as reliable as they come, I thought he was a good option 2 years ago coming out of LA.

He doesn't care about money. It's the Yankees or Japan. Even if we offer twice what the Yankees offer he won't come.

Is this a fact or speculation? I've heard the rumors but I haven't heard "it's NYY or Japan, end of discussion"

It's a fact. It's why the Yankees got Kuroda so cheaply last offseason. He also doesn't want a multi-year deal (and didn't want one last offseason), since he'll be undecided again next year about returning to the Yankees or leaving for Japan.

The Yankees are offering $15-16M. I'm sure many teams are interested in the 2/30 or 1/21 range, but it won't matter.

Japanese culture................They care a f*** the money.

2/30 is possible but I don't see anyone offering 1/21. If I remember correctly he really struggled in the second half last season.

His ERA rose like two runs but his peripherals improved half to half. Weird.

Just took a quick look, although his ERA was higher in the second half his advanced stats looked good. I'm still not convinced anyone would offer over $20M for one season.

I see that now, should have taken a look before my original post.

I'd love to sign him 1 year 15M

But Yankees need him every bit as much as we do and they have home town advantage and the $$$

They have already tried (no, really)

He isn't coming here, it's back to Japan or NYY

That's funny because two years ago, it was a "fact" that it was either Dodgers or Japan for Kuroda. Suddenly he was in pinstripes. As long as these guys are human, anything can happen.

But do I think the Jays have a shot at him? Maybe one in a thousand.

I don't think it matters - the Jays won't spend more than $10 million a free agent this off-season. I hope I'm wrong but I get the sense they're not in on any "good" free agents - they'll talk the talk but the Jays need to have a rotation that can trump Boston, New York, Baltimore, Tampa. If the Jays do not have a rotation that is superior to their rotations we will not beat them - period with multiple exclamation points. If we signed 2 of the 3 of Tanaka, Santana and/or Jiminez we'd have a shot. Otherwise I see the 5th best rotation. And our offense is not better than at least 2 of those clubs so I'm not seeing anything too exciting this off-season.

He would be worth upwards of 1 yr 20 mil to pry away from Yankees. Yeah its alot but who cares its a 1 year deal, its a better option than giving long term deals to the likes of Garza, Jimenez, and Santana if you aren't sold on them. If he helps the Jays be good its worth it, if the Jays suck can trade him and at least you essentially buy a decent prospect from someone. Doesn't matter anyway we'd probably have to offer 30 mil to get him to think about it.

I might take JJ on the arb deal over Kuroda 1/20. Kuroda is at an age where falling off a cliff wouldnt be unheard of. That said I would sign him.. but would prob prefer JJ at 1/14
