Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I'm more thinking back to the FDM days. Oh f***. That man f***ed up a lot of people. However when you were struggling with you bat I think it is best that you take all the advise that you can get.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Tell me JP gets better on a new team and I'll remind you that Edwin and Bautista got better on this one, and that Snider has continued to stink in Pittsburgh. I don't buy the theory that there's a serious systemic flaw in our system. Room for improvement, yes, but manageable. The last few years it's been a middle of the pack offense. Average exactly (ussually 6th or 7th in runs because the park boosts it a tad). With players like Lind and Arencibia (and the hitting coach Murphy famously a couple years ago) making stupid comments about dingers and hitting approach.... The stupid comments feed the perception that the organization is filled with buffoons... pull that ball, "on base percentage is over-rated".
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Arencibia would be a great pitcher. Lots of K's, no BB's, and a manageable amount of HR's.
EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Close this f***ing thread Mod Who the F are you ? You don't like this thread.. GTFO, nobody wants to hear your whimpering.
EdelweissBouquet Verified Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 By that logic you can never trade or release any player. Arencibia's projected output in 2014 and 2015 was unlikely to be worth his projected salaries. Navarro is a better player than JPA and was going to cost similar money. It was a very simple decision. Also, can we not re-write history by saying JPA was an elite prospect who still has mounds of untapped potential? He always had hit tool and defensive concerns, and those are what continue to dog him. He's a bust and it's time to move on. Nobody can be definitive about the future regarding human behavior and contributions. But I agree JPA had to go,whatever he does from here on in, it's the correct move at this point in time.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 Even if he did put it all together and was a serviceable backup catcher, how long of a leash does a backup catcher who shoots his mouth off at a moments notice get?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 I think JP is capable of something like .240/.280/.450 .. that's prob not too far off from league average for C.. if he keeps up the + framing and gets a little better and some of the other stuff.. he could be a serviceable rotation kind of C. Possibly DH on some days with a LHP (though I dont know his splits). Kind of a meh player of course.. but better than worst in league

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2013 Posted December 6, 2013 That would mean his batting average in 2014 was higher than his OBP in 2013. Not saying I would bet on it.. lol
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Vs LHP Career: 225/262/435 That's pretty limp inducing
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 For the record I just looked and Steamer and Oliver both gave him mcuh (relatively speaking) healthier OPS's than I did.
