Dammit. The Rays are doing exactly what I wanted to do - acquire Hanigan and get his name on a new 2-3 year deal. f***. I love that team.

f*** our FO seriously. Rays putting on a clinic.

The truth is, Navarro isn't an awful deal, but he's coming off a good season, after several poor seasons. There's a chance this can be a great deal and he provides 2.5+ wins.

But there's also a great chance he goes back to his old terrible self.

Hanigan is coming off a bad season, in which he was still better than Arenciba. But he's been really consistent the previous years.

According to Kevin Kennedy who was with the Rays and the Dodgers when he played there Navarro got fat and lazy . Kennedy did not like him at all . Said he seemed to turn it around in Chicago this year but with a 2 year deal he could easily think he has it made and get Fat and Lazy again . Rays dumped him for a reason We need to grab a Suzuki type to ensure he has some competition .

Can't believe AA couldn't have bettered the offer for Fister and now Hannigan goes cheap . Navarro ??? Wow what a way to start a dismal off season . OH well it can only get better

I agree with everything you said here except for that last line...

Yeah Zaun talked about him being lazy, but apparently he was a hard worker last year. Hopefully he sticks to that.

Yep. Zaun suggesting he's HIGHLY motivated and excited about a second chance to be an every day starting catcher.

Here's hoping!

Wow, I love the Rays. Hanigan/Molina is the best framing and overall catching tandem in the game.

Pretty sure that would still be Lucroy and Maldonado.

Edit: Noticed you explained yourself. I'd like to add that Maldonado on his own might be a better framer and catcher than Hanigan. Considering I don't think the Brewers really have a clue in this regard it would seem they just lucked into the two of them.

Lol. Why is it so easy for them? At what point do teams just look elsewhere.

Joe Maddon?

Small market team with s***** TV revenue, artifical turf, crappy stadium and fan support, but guys sign short team friendly deals there all the time

I'd like to add that Cincy made out like bandits here. They have a pretty damn good catching tandem themselves and get Holmberg for the extra piece. A 22 year old that has thrown over 150 innings three straight years is my kind of pitcher. I see him as a Mark Buehrle type.

I agree. Really, it's the D-Backs with the WTF moment unless that PTBNL is something good. The deal has some risk for Tampa too, in that a lot of people think Hannigan is nothing more than a backup (although I think he could break out personally). If you stretch the Bell contract out over the 3 years too and only attribute to him what he's actually worth, they're essentially paying Hannigan 4M to 5M a year for 3 to 4 years.

Yeah and I guess the magical water they have up there doesn't hurt. Oh and winning too I suppose.

Weather, winning and Maddon can be the only reasons

Love Holmberg. He's a future DDL stud.

Heath Bell great pitcher because the Rays acquired him.

LOL!

You never know with the Rays. Look at what they did to Rodney and how Farnsworth bounced back. I won't be shocked to see a great Heath bell for 2014 season

If I recall, Rodney and Farnsworth weren't making the same money as Heath Bell :)

I could see Bell rejuvenate his career with the Rays. He had solid peripherals last season with Arizona (72 K's vs 16 BB's). His home run rate last season is a cause for concern though; he always has pitched in big parks (San Diego and Miami), so hopefully with him moving to the AL East, batters tee off of him!

Who said that? Christ, you're such a dipshit.

So the Rays just added Hanigan and all they had to do was take on $5.5 million of Bell's contract for 2013 and move a PTBNL and a fringy pitching prospect. Unbelievable.

Well the d-backs did say the ptbnl was the key for them to pull the trigger so I doubt it's a scrub, but all the same...

Srsly AA has already failed so much

f***, I know. Stop looking at big trades and get the solid smaller pieces. He's already missed Fister and Hannigan who both were traded for nothing.

Concern?

More like an opportunity for a smart team to take advantage of those fooled by randomness.
