Maybe we can talk about getting Kazmir to your FC team as a mid-rotation piece. I'm shopping him.

I saw. I actually was going to e-mail you about him haha. Now pitching in Oakland, I know his price likely goes up a bit :P

Back in the day, I would fap every time I drafted Scott Kazmir in fantasy baseball.

Any pitcher is a perfect fit in Oakland :)

Especially pitchers who stand to benefit from a bit of HR suppression though. Steamer projects his ERA to match his

2012 FIP next year, should clock in around 3.5 with about a K/IP.

I'm realistic about the asking price, a solid prospect probably gets it done.

I'm not an AA fan at all.. but you have to respect the challenge he faces when pitchers on bargain deals arent coming to a launch pad like RC. That's why he has to pursue like every trade imaginable

That's why it gets annoying when I read a post saying "Pitcher A signed this deal with team so and so…what a bargain. Where was AA on that deal?" like millions of times. Why would bargain free agents like Johnson, Kazmir, Tim Hudson etc want to pitch in this launch pad? It likely would cost the Jays more to sign these guys for them to consider Toronto.

Meanwhile people ask things like... why did it take three years to sign Izturis? Because that extra year is what's needed to get someone to sign here.

Oh bull crap

Sick and tired of this. Extra year is what Alex needed to give because he is a cga poor negotiator

This didn't start with AA. JPR gave B.J. Ryan five years, he gave Frank Thomas the clause that would trigger an extra year and he although he didn't to drastically over-market for Burnett he still had to give him the opt-out clause so he could potentially leave and get a bigger payday halfway through the contract (which he did).

FUUUCK, I was just talking to my friend about how good of a signing this would be. And of course, Billy f***ing Bean gets him. Watch him put up numbers similar to 2007 if he stays healthy.

2 for 22 is a pretty solid deal. Decent amount of risk considering the injury history, but even if he pitches 140 inning each year, he'll be worth it.

A lot of times these bargain pitchers like Johnson, Kazmir, Haren et arent looking for more years as they're trying to pitch for a longer contract with better terms. Even if you pay a guy like Johnson $13m instead on $8m.. or a guy like Haren 13 instead of 10.. I would wager most times it wouldnt ever matter. Pitcher would rather go to friendlier environment and division.

Yeah no pitcher is coming to Toronto to build their value which is another reason why the whole "go all in, spend to contend" approach is very hard to pull off for a gm of this franchise. I remember when Gord Ash thought he was going to return Toronto to contention by aquiring Orlando Merced, Carlos Garcia and Dan Plesac from Pittsburgh and signing Benny Santiago and Roger Clemens. No one has pulled off a proper rebuild in Toronto since Gillick (tecnhnically a 'build' in that case). Every GM has tried to accelerate the time line with big moves and none of them managed to pull it off.

I'd bite on colon

I think I would too. If it was a one year deal. Maybe 1 year, $10 million. He's not really a guy who I think will just suddenly collapse like a lot of people do. I see his as a better version of Mark Buerhle. Maybe a bit less of a guarantee to be healthy, but a better pitcher.

Some hitters though would find Toronto attractive if they want to beef up their numbers. We used to sign a fair number of good offensive players and develop our pitchers in our system. Probably the best way to get it done in Toronto, but we got kind of handicapped in 2012 when some of our best starters went down to serious injury ( more luck then anything to do with our farm system in my opinion ).

For similar reasons, I suspect the pitchers we do have are stronger then they appear on paper.

Obviously they are idiots and you must tell them so haha.

The mods are strict af. I'm trying to be gentle. And I'm even spamming Breaking Blue, talking about TIPS and the cost of a win being 7.5 according to Nik.

Was hoping the Jays would be able to get him to come to Toronto, but didn't think it was realistic. I really don't want to see them bring in a f***stick pitcher like Ubaldo or Santana.

I keep saying that we have too many strikes against us signing decent Free Agents period . Position players hate Turf and Pitchers hate the AL East and the park . Add to that both hate the fact they are playing in another country. We have to overpay and attract the lesser guys .

Kazmir wanted to go to a place where he will do well and get another contract . I love the signing and it may be the best value this year but he wasn't coming to the Jays for that contract . I expect him to have two very good years . 93 Mph fastball , Slider at 84 and a great changeup at 81 , cut his walks . Very good signing.

Ubaldo and Ervin are benefited because this free agency lacks talent .....The smart move must be "get away from them".

Isn't colon a flyball pitcher? lol it would be a disaster seeing him here

colon doesn't strike out a lot, but doesn't walk anyone either...might be a nice change to have a pitcher who doesn't walk a lot of batters...2 years 10 to 12 mil...go get him.

From Rotoworld: "Dec 2 Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com hears that the Angels "don't really have interest" in Bartolo Colon.Advice: Jim Bowden of SiriusXM Radio reported a week ago that the Angels were "in" on the right-hander, but Gonzalez hears that that's not the case "at least not at this point." The Halos lost Jason Vargas to the Royals and are desperately looking for at least one starter this offseason."
