imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 The prospect thread is getting pretty dry lately. Lets do a top prospect ranking poll. We will start with 10 players and just let me know which players needs to added for the next poll. Lets start with the number 1 ranked Toronto BlueJays prospect.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I voted for Sanchez I think Stroman is our most major league ready prospect and I welcome him to the rotation with open arms if he has a good spring training, but Sanchez will probably have a better overall career
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Dont you mean cubs prospects when AA trades them all for another mediocar starter Hahaha, hope not Don't want AA stacking their farm system the way he did the Mets. We have the Mets their TWO best prospects.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Sanchez has the higher ceiling. Stroman has the higher floor. I'll take the gamble though that Sanchez realises his potential and becomes a #1/2 while Stroman is a #2/3.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 It's really an interesting question. Do you consider the higher prospect to be the guy with the higher ceiling if everything clicks, or the guy who will likely produce best over their career? Stroman's good stuff combined with his makeup and especially command are tough to ignore, but so is the elite stuff of Sanchez if he can harness it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Voted for Stroman. Bold. Just like the Stroman himself.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 As did I, being a numbers guy, there's no way I can ignore Stroman's 2013. Sure he has a lower ceiling, but he's already ready, where Sanchez may never reach where Stroman already is. #UnleashTheStroman
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Stroman will have a Gose-style hissy fit if he doesn't make the team out of spring training, methinks
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I disagree...this does not make any sense especially from a Stroman fan like you. It will provide more motivation for him to get to the next level. Yeah you're right. Different make up. When Gose felt slighted he sulked and slumped. When Stroman gets dissed he probably steps up. I should not have said hissy fit. Should have just said he'd be mad.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I voted Stroman, he may be near his potential ceiling but he's at least going to hit it. Sanchez, Norris, Smoral, Osuna all have that higher ceiling but outside of Sanchez they're all so far off. Sanchez may never get there if the delivery concerns are legitimate.
admin Site Manager Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Hello, let's not do any more of these polls after this one. I was going to save this for after winter meetings. I think maybe to get it more attention we'll put the poll on the main board, than the discussion can be in this forum.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 I voted for Syndergaard... I voted for Stroman, dude had an insane campaign this year and was pounding on the door, yet AA still didn't even give him a shot. Sanchez on the other hand, was a level lower, his K rate was underwhelming and his walk rate was still bad. It's starting to get to the point where I need to see results, I get that Sanchez has really nice stuff, but what good is that when you have a 4.5/9 walk rate.
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted November 30, 2013 Author Posted November 30, 2013 Here is who I think should be listed for the next polls A.J. Jimenez Kenny Wilson Andy Burns Sean Nolin Marcus Stroman John Stilson Deck McGuire Emilio Guerrero Gustavo Pierre Shane Opitz Daniel Norris Aaron Sanchez Dwight Smith JR. Santiago Nessy Christian Lopes Roberto Osuna Dawel Lugo Dickie Thon JR. L.B. Dantzler Shane Dawson Tom Robson Jeremy Gabryszwski Franklin Barreto D.J. Davis Mitch Nay Matt Dean Andres Sotillo Alberto Tirado Clinton Hollon Miguel Castro Jairo Labourt Chase DeJong Adonys Cardona Zak Wasilewski Brady Dragmire Richard Urena Rowdy Tellez Dan Jansen Andres De Aza Anthony Alford Evan Smith Jesus Tinoco Alejandro Solarte Conner Greene Jacob Brentz Matt Smoral Deiferson Barreto Francisco Rios A few notes 1. I left off relievers, except for Stilson because he should be MLB ready. 2. Ang will have to give a little more input on Dominican players Could have said more but I figure this would do Voted Sanchez btw lol I'm only allowed 15 maxed. I meant the next player to replace the one who got ranked for the next poll.

We need our prospect's ranking fix.

tercet Verified Member Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Sorry, but you guys are clueless if you vote for anyone but stroman at #1. Just like all of you morons who voted for hech in the previous years.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Poll locked but I'd have gone with Stroman. I'm much bigger on "likely to reach their ceiling" over the height of the ceiling.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Admin, are you going to make a new #1 prospect poll when you do yours after the winter meetings? we will be doing our full poll again. With everyone's top 25 posted.
Caper Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I think you need to do a bunch ofdifferent polls. One for each spot on the ranking list. One and two is a lock. Stroman or Sanchez. Take a poll with just them two, to settle out the 1st two rankings. Then do another poll, leaving them two players off, to fill maybe the next 4 slots..4 highest vote getters. Then do another poll....leaving the 4 highest vote getters off, to get the next 4 or 5 spots picked.... And repeat... It gets fun when you get to the 20 to 25 poll... Selecting amongst 15 names you never heard of.
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 we will be doing our full poll again. With everyone's top 25 posted. Do a Poll for each spot. Prospect section is dry and it will lead to a lot of discussions...
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Sanchez. There's a reason only 1 pitcher as short as Stroman in the history of baseball has had a successful career as a starter.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Yes, because they generally can't throw 95. Stroman can. Lincecum, Tom Gordon, Pedro, Ex-Jays Tim Collins, Billy Wagner, Mike Hampton
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 The other thread has an overwhelming majority voting for Stroman. Just goes to show how much people can be influenced by early votes and a few comments. People who come to the prospect section are probably more likely to make informed decisions.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Yeah noticed that too lol. The people who regular come to the prospect forum are probably the ones who know the most about our prospects. Where as when the poll is in the other forum, the people who don't know much about prospects will see the poll and vote. They will vote Stroman of course as this board has one big fapfest for him. Not sure if there's a clear cut #1 to be honest. Maybe 1a and 1b? Just glad to have them both I think Jason Parks recent public boner for Stroman had alot to do with it. Stroman has been getting alot of attention recently and that's going to influence the opinion of him. As you said, 1A and 1B.....
GD Old-Timey Member Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Yeah, it's a 1A/1B. I still like Stroman, but it's not exactly an easy choice.
