Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I played Milly's Math-house on the first iMac when I was 2, everyday. I could use the computer better than my parents, and by the time I was in Kindergarden I was already past a Grade 3 math level. As far as becoming a saberist, I started on the old Jays forum and learned from everyone, finally venturing to FanGraphs and Tom Tango's blog. It's only been a year and a half since I learned what FIP was. You're a goddamn savant. Don't forget that you knew my internet moniker when you're a big and famous math nerd.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Undoubtedly Boxy should be Dayton Moore. I can't hear you, MPL SCUM!!!!
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 We'll now have a mole in the front office to give us some realtime trade rumors. Excellent. http://recluse.me/uploaded_images/mr-burns-wallpaper-790221.gif I don't think you guys want to know about the things that go on there.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Smart analytics guy who writes reports that end up in the special file cabinet in the trash. Come on BTS, don't be so morbid. They keep their stats guys' work, they just make sure it has nothing to do with stats.
Frag Verified Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I actually doubt it was due to the email, I was contacted through Tom Tango, so it was likely from his blog. But nonetheless it is exciting. That's bloody awesome man! Congrats!

8D Verified Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I hope NJH is busy formulating a new baseball equation... it's the only way to sustain and gain daily hits.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 That would be plagiarism. DR prisons are cruel, rape you for hours without "condones" and someone seemed to think he could speak English
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Quick, hide the "fire AA" thread. (just don't delete it - dat my baby) Gold; you're smart lol
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I can't hear you, MPL SCUM!!!! If you're going to insult me, do it in a way in which I (the victim) can understand.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Dude, be smart and take the job...finish the degree some other time or do evening courses or something.
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 For our fanbase, that idea would actually be beneficial for the team - knowledgeable bunch. Unfortunately, I'd have to say that most fanbases are dumber than bricks, on the whole. really?? I've never found this to be the case. I've listened to Yankees fans sing the Canadian anthem and know all the words. I've met KC fans who asked me about the OHL. Boston fans are incredibly smart, Boston is an incredibly smart area (MIT, Harvard, a lot of tech). Yankees fans the same, a lot of Wall street guys, a lot of street smart guys. I remember back on the old board in May or so, some guy kept on suggesting Garrett Jones trade ideas... imagine if you ran the crowd source algorithm on the old board at it's height?? Crowd Source Trade: 10 dogs for Garrett Jones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 lol I know you like rap music lol ---------> Franco > Kanye
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 f***ing amazing satire. What's awesome is that the original video is so inherently ridiculous that all you have to do is switch the actors to turn it into full-on comedy. The best satire only requires the slightest exagerration but this required even less than that. It's basically the same dumb video that Kanye made.

8D Verified Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Wow very nice piece by Neyer. "Well, thanks to the availability of PITCHf/x data and the fantastic work of some fine researchers over the last few years, it's now hard to resist the conclusion that pitch-framing is both real and occasionally fantastic. And the knuckleball thing? If anyone's ever studied that, I don't believe I've seen it. If anyone's ever studied that and actually found anything, I know I haven't seen that. Until now. Over at FanGraphs, Christopher Carruthers has conducted an extensive study of "the R.A. Dickey Effect" ... as in, what happens to the pitchers who follow Dickey? " JFaS blowin up!!!
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 http://tangotiger.com/index.php/site/comments/knuckleball-hangover-effect?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed Tango jumping in on the Dickey (Knuckleball) Effect now! Congratulations Chris.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 Post with the same research for Tim Wakefield and starters! http://www.breakingblue.ca/2013/11/26/the-dickey-effect-part-ii-wakefield/ Stoeten Or maybe not. I don’t know. And it doesn’t really matter, because secondly, I’m pretty sure the guys behind the brand new Jays-focussed analytics blog Breaking Blue are going to own us all in a matter of months anyway, so the Jays will probably be snapping them up any minute now to take whatever position is available. Obviously I half-joke, but their work– which first came to my attention after Chris Carruthers’ post at FanGraphs Community Research (which is also on his own site) on the effect R.A. Dickey had on pitchers following him was getting all kinds of Twitter love yesterday– is slightly terrifying. In a good way, I mean– in terms of ingenuity and execution, and also in making me (and several other folks sitting around here in theScore’s blog jail) feel mighty old. Mighty f***ing old indeed.

jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2013 Posted November 27, 2013 Also a random thing i noticed about the blog. Sometimes when i go to the site i can't find the link to the message board. Not that i care because i know how to get here - but we could potentially be losing out on some members especially in the light of all this buzz about Chris. Specifically when i log on at work....the link can't be found. Anyone else notice this?

Never noticed it before since I usually just have the forum open in another tab. It might be a good idea to have a link that can't be missed, especially considering the buzz right now.

I've been focusing more on hockey stats recently than baseball stats. I guess it's due to the fact that a lot has been done in baseball (though, as Chris has shown with TIPS, still areas left to be explored especially with MiLB data), but hockey is still an undiscovered country relatively speaking. Feels like there's a lot to explore in hockey, at least to me.

With an approving nod the man turns around and slowly walks into the sunset, but just before his shadowy figure disappears forever over the rolling hills he stops, looks up, and with the faintest sound speaks " I have done something good here today"
