G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Yeah I don't think this is too consequential. Rays aren't the best at developing hitters either (far from it)... if Mottola was a pitching coach it'd be different. They've obviously been good at developing pitchers I worry they're going to get better at developing hitters from some new commitment/strategy/personnel

Nox Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Hey Nox, you should enter the board Free Agent Prediction Contest! http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/1676-Blue-Jays-Message-Board-Free-Agent-Prediction-Contest It only takes a few minutes, is fun, and will give us some good data on how the board perceives the market. If BTS bumps his contribution to $1000, I'll match it.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 At least Fat Greek > Ruben Amaro Jr, we have reached the bottom of the barrel Amaro will be fired after another terrible year in 2014 AA might survive another few years if he gets lucky
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 If Jays dont make the playoffs Alex will be fired. For sure, but he gets this off season to fill the obvious team holes and make a good run in 2014. I think JPA gets moved or released, they try to sign two or three of Santana/Beltran/( Pick a Catcher), and consider trading Bautista for Cliff Lee plus a useful player. The last part depends heavily on their success on the free agents, what I hope they dont do is settle on cheaper older projects that aren't much better then what they have already.
TRM Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 It's weird to me that you're so supportive of a GM that you believe needs a $170 million payroll to win. I think I could win with $170 million. Would you be supportive of me?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Who had Mottola to the Rays? I'm sure North will start spamming you about a "Coach hiring incessant prediction (CHIP)" contest soon enough
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 I don't mean this to be spam, but why haven't you entered yet? I had the first 25 done and then was like "who???" for too many of the upcoming players so I didn't finish it.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 It's weird to me that you're so supportive of a GM that you believe needs a $170 million payroll to win. shudders at the thought of AA and 170 million dollar payroll
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I'm sorry Ned Colletti is a worse gm then the fat Greek just for that ethier contract edit: Ned Colletti is a f***ing idiot
TRM Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Well that just brings a tear to my eye.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 Who? Really? I didn't find myself saying who for anybody. I'm exaggerating a bit. More like I'd heard the names, didn't really know much about them, not sure where they fit. Crain, Maholm, Guttierez, etc... Prob 7-8 names where I couldn't even tell you what position they play.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I think I could win with $170 million. Would you be supportive of me? You would send the $170m in its entirety to the Dodgers for Zach Lee. And we would win the whole damn thing.
8D Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Further confirmation that this was a stupid firing. My thoughts exactly when I saw the title of this thread. ffs... watch the Rays now create a full lineup of hitters qualifying for the batting title. Chad Mottola probably also knows the weaknesses of Jays' hitters pretty damn well and what their strengths and mentalities are at the plate... at the majors and minor league lvl
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 This franchise is a f***ing clown show. I still can't believe we fired this guy in order to replace him with one of Gibbons' butt-buddies (who, by the way, sucked at the same job in Kansas City and Arizona). Firstly, why is the FO bending over for the manager of a last-place team? Secondly, why is the FO bending over for the manager who got fired by the same franchise a few years ago? Thirdly, why did the FO bring back a previously-fired manager to begin with? Considering that an actually smart organization like the Rays seems to value Mottola more than the Jays did, we would have been better off keeping Mottola and hiring a new manager if necessary than still having Gibbons here but with a worse hitting coach.
