Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 Tanaka could be five. Either by leaving the sixth to arbitration, or writing only five years of control into the contract. I also doubt Santana gets more than five years -- maybe 4/60 or 5/70. Are you sure? ------> https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AuRs7ESmE2v5dEEzSFg3R3VGYlFrdmF3bkQtZTJBWFE#gid=0 So far Tanaka 5,5 Years Cano 8,5 Years Ervin 4.3 Years lol
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 No Cano, Tanaka, Garza and Santana It doesn't make much difference for us regardless. Cano would be nice, but it just isn't happening. The Yankees will blow everyone out of the water on Tanaka assuming they still want to get under the luxury tax threshhold this year. It's basically a no brainer for them to bid high on him. Ellsbury isn't a need for us and will likely get a contract someone regrets sooner rather than later. Garza isn't the pitcher we need right now, and Santana is a bad fit in our division.
mitchf Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 f*** I'm not even mad about AA's 5 year policy. It's the only thing he does right in my opinion. Cano at 36/37 year for 25+ million per? Yikes. Remember, we're roughly 2 years away from the entire front office being fired and somebody new stepping in. We don't need more immovable contracts.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 You can speculate on who will give it to him here: http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/1676-Blue-Jays-Message-Board-Free-Agent-Prediction-Contest Please start entering everyone! On Ruiz... I'd probably give him 2/30 if a gun was put to my head. He's a better bet than anyone else we could bring in. LOL, enough!
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 That tweet from Shi broke my heart. I wanted Cano.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Did Ruiz really sign with the Red Sox? No. Confirmed fake account
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 No Cano, Tanaka, Garza and Santana Can't say I blame him for milking the one smart idea he's ever had for everything it's worth.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 I added a median row. Tanaka: 5, 11 Cano: 8, 25 Ervin: 4, 14 Jemenez: 4, 13.5 Cano is the only one probable to get 6+ years. Jacoby will
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 You almost done with your picks? I did part 2 already. Will work on part 1 today and tomorrow
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Good. They had it on Sportsnet and I was like f***. Ruiz should be our guy. I'd say the fact that no one knows who made the offer is a really good sign that it might BE us.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Author Posted November 12, 2013 I have a diversion from Twitter for you: Enter the Official Board FAP Contest. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/1676-Blue-Jays-Message-Board-Free-Agent-Prediction-Contest Get your picks in before more free agents start to sign! You would be an excellent drug dealer ......... I love your persistence.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Ruiz would be great at 2/20. Going up to 2/25 wouldn't be bad as well. Probably will net us at least 4 additional wins over JP I would go up to 2/24 or 3/27 . We NEED an upgrade at catcher and he is that. I really hope we can get him. I truly believe a competent catcher will help improve our rotation.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Some interesting tidbits from AA (more than just Cano) http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/mlb/blue-jays-wont-budge-club-policy-for-cano/ In particular, that affordability of any free agents isn't a question, but rather if they like the player at that price. Also, that demand for their relievers has been high (inquiries on at least 10 relievers). Kawasaki is weighing offers from several Japanese teams, but AA is hopeful of retaining him.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 You would be an excellent drug dealer ......... I love your persistence. From what I've heard dealers give you a little one time present/freebie, you get hooked and all of a sudden you're seeking them out. Quite the opposite of persistence.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I'm having a difficult time understanding why Amaro and his old/expensive as f*** "win now" team would let Ruiz walk over 2/20. Didn't accumulate nearly enough RBIs.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Any updates on Ruiz? You mean other than the fact that he f***ed your mom?.. no.. no new news other than that
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I will not lose hope on Cano until he signs elsewhere. Those comments from AA absolutely do not rule hime out like Shi's tweet and article say. Let's gooooooooooooo

New method: My new product is more expensive, for that reason I try to convince you that the old s*** you're eating is s*** and you should buy from me the new drugs.

Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 You guys aren't going to like this, but the more and more research I do and video I watch, JPA was clearly an above average framer this year. Apparently Fasano worked extensively with him in the offseason and he improved greatly. He was well below average before and now he is above average. In a lot of the video I watched this year, he shows almost impeccable mechanics, no return glove movement (Doumit's specialty) and he only drops his head a little bit now. http://archive.org/download/TWiCF726/Best2.gif Get out
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I definitely noticed an improvement. If it wasn't for confirmation bias, most people here would view JP as a decent framer. But he's still a below-average defender overall. I'm not so sure he is overall (or at least wouldn't be with a full time instructor on the staff). Regardless, his stubbornness with the bat and especially the antics when people criticized him this year make me want him gone.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Under roids influence...Right? Maybe.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Though Amaro wants to sign Marlon Byrd at the same price almost. Pretty awful. All of that may suggest there's stuff behind the scenes other than $. Some ill will between sides maybe that didnt go public. Maybe to do with the suspension or injury.. or that Ruiz didnt get extended last year..

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 Interesting twist on the offseason if JPA is indeed a good framer: we could sign a catcher and not alter our Steamer projections at all. Currently we're at: Jimininez = 0.1 WAR 33 PA JPA = 1 WAR 328 PA Thole = 0.8 WAR 297 PA Total = 1.9 projected fWAR + JPA's positive framing If we were to sign, say, AJ Pierzynski and trade JPA, assume Jiminez gets his 33 PA, and keep Thole as the backup with reduced PA, we'd have: Jimininez = 0.1 WAR 33 PA Pierzynski = 2.1 WAR 447 PA Thole = 0.5 WAR 178 PA Total = 2.7 projected fWAR +/- Pierzynski's framing. So If JPA is a better framer than Pierzynski, we come out roughly even. JPA to the defense improved a lot ..................But he has become an awful hitter.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 But... Ruiz ~ 12.8 runs/1000 McCann ~9.9 runs/1000 Salty ~5.9 runs/1000 JPA ~5.1 runs/1000 Pierzynski ~-0.7 runs/1000 There are better options. I really want Ruiz.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I won't be revealing my process and data yet, but I will take requests for certain catchers. How did Jose Molina do, since he often seems to be one of the leaders?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 13, 2013 Author Posted November 13, 2013 I really want Ruiz. What about Kardashian ass? ---- She isn't latin as Ruiz ,but she's sexy too. http://i500.listal.com/image/2186862/500full.jpg
