John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 I would like him back on this team, but only if we get a lefty smasher to platoon with him. Chris Young would fit that description, plus he can play all the OF positions and will be relatively cheap-ish.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 If they trade lind I could see them going after loney, which I wouldn't mind. I can totally see this. I think Melky 's health is a huge concern and cannot be counted on. Lind will be packaged for a starter and Loney will be signed, a Seitzer kind of guy. EE DH' s 75% of the time, with Loney 's GG defense at first.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 James Loney's career wRC+ is 105, and Steamer has him at 100 next year. TB is going to let this guy go for a reason. He plays first base, even if they trade lind we still got the corpse of melky cabrera coming back. No room

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 As does every team, Loney sucks balls. Those numbers would look good for a MIF with some speed. Bam! what you described is what the jays need badly
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Profar......hahaha!! we were campaigning to trade jose for profar since the start of last before he got hurt for a second consecutive season.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Are you aware of righty/lefty splits? Are you aware you're arguing with Dogg?

Bottom line.. Loney is a. 300 hitter and is a tough out. I prefer Loney ' s bat over Lind' s and Melky ' s and we get GG defense at first, that's huge. Trading Lind for other needs and signing Loney improves the team guaranteed. Let's not get to caught up in Streamer projections.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 Forget about splits. The mans a loser. Is that not enough. Bautista should be DH going forward with choo in right field That is if this franchise wants to win Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2 lol @ you calling someone else a loser
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 MohYou = RogersIsSatan not going to explain why adam lind is s*** has the last 6-7 years not been enough for you fanboys This team is a shipwreck on the greek islands abandon ship quick http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XttkWFpERKo/UBUuvcj9QMI/AAAAAAAAB84/s4t1T8Yfs2I/s1600/gollum.gif

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Pretty sure that James Loney has never won a gold glove or hit .300 in a full season... not that any of those things would even matter lol not sure where he was digging up those numbers, but I felt all last season that Loney would be a good option FA to play 1st and give the jays a good OBP guy who gets it. not like "guys who get it" are easy to find in the jays present numbers.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 A few things 1. Being a "0.300 hitter and tough out" does not matter if you have a league-average bat and play 1B. You're still inadequate. 2. Adam Lind career wRC+ = 108 James Loney = 105 Adam Lind's projected wRC+ according to Steamer = 115 James Loney = 100 There's no evidence at all that Loney is better 3. James Loney's defense is worth like 1-5 runs over a full season. That doesn't make up for a league-average bat. at least Loney wont be walking around like a pregnant woman if he has to play first base 2 days in a row.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 at least Loney wont be walking around like a pregnant woman if he has to play first base 2 days in a row. Yep Linds back is big question mark.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Yep Linds back is big question mark. back, brain, glove... cant hit lefties, other than that he's solid.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 C'MON MAN............ cap filler but it's true. Lind cant play more than a couple games at first before he has back spasms, stomach strain, brain dead... he's a liability at best.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Pretty sure that James Loney has never won a gold glove or hit .300 in a full season... not that any of those things would even matter lol Nit pick much? He's a career .285 hitter and hit .299 last year. His bat is not a prototypical one at first, but if there is enough power in the rest of the line up,he's a good fit. The only reason his career average isn't higher is because the Dodgers tried to turn him into a hitter that he is simply is not and was glad to gtfo of there. He hits a lot of doubles and has a high baseball IQ,just the type of infusion this team needs. He's a top five glove at first easily. So tell me again what doesn't matter.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 So tell me again what doesn't matter. Sure. Gold gloves and batting average. James Loney is a terrible idea, sorry. They'd be buying high on a guy who will be vastly overrated in free agency and projects to be a below average first baseman, all things considered. An Adam Lind platoon would be a much, much better idea.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 I really don't understand why everyone thinks the Jays won't sign a big free agent they used to do this all the time. I'd say at least 60% chance the Jays sign at least one big free agent and our team will be noticeably better on paper going into next season. You are an extreme homer. Stop living in the 1990's and wake up to the reality that this franchise is the joke of the league right now.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 What I was getting at is that they know better than to pay sticker price on a 1-win player after an anomalous year. Let Amaros and gruber92s of the set that cash on fire. Loney can probably be had for 2/$6mil type deal and we lose what,-3 on wRC+? IMO,that's value. The $4mil saved can go elsewhere, like maybe signing Ruiz?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Sure. Gold gloves and batting average. You're a stooge.
