Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Non-Tender Candidates By Tim Dierkes [November 7, 2013 at 9:29am CST] By my count, 213 players are currently arbitration eligible. More than 50 of those can be considered non-tender candidates. The deadline for teams to decide is December 2nd. Non-tendering a player makes him a free agent. Below is my subjective list of non-tender candidates. Please note that not all of them will actually be non-tendered. Click here for MLBTR's projected salaries for these players, if they are tendered contracts. Position Players Tony Abreu Darwin Barney Daric Barton Mike Baxter Drew Butera Tyler Flowers Sam Fuld Mat Gamel Chris Getz Jesus Guzman Brett Hayes Paul Janish Garrett Jones Don Kelly George Kottaras Lou Marson John Mayberry Michael McKenry Chris Nelson Jayson Nix Nolan Reimold Adam Rosales Justin Ruggiano Scott Sizemore Seth Smith Travis Snider Chris Stewart Drew Stubbs Pitchers Scott Atchison John Axford Andrew Bailey Daniel Bard Mitchell Boggs Phil Coke Scott Elbert Juan Gutierrez Tommy Hanson Frank Herrmann Daniel Hudson Kevin Jepsen Cristhian Martinez Luis Mendoza Jose Mijares Jeff Niemann Felipe Paulino Fernando Rodriguez Esmil Rogers Tony Sipp Joe Thatcher Josh Tomlin Jonny Venters Jerome Williams Blake Wood http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/non-tender-candidates.html
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 George Kottaras in, JPA out lol
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Yeah I looked at this yesterday and couldn't believe JP wasn't on the list
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 Poor Snider Can Snider hit from the right side?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 George Kottaras in, JPA out lol Would love to see Kottaras here as the backup. Guy has a fantastic eye at the plate.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 Would love to see Kottaras here as the backup. Guy has a fantastic eye at the plate. Kottaras and Daric Barton the same type of player; excellent players to the Jays bench.
Muck Bartinez Verified Member Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Always liked Niemann as a pitcher if he could ever stay healthy, but if the Rays couldn't get anything out of him I can't see how we would be able to. And thoughts on Ruggiano as a DH platoon partner with Lind / 4th OF? Career .360 wOBA vs L, 127 wRC+, and that's on a .287 BABIP. Better than Old Man Derosa.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2013 Author Posted November 8, 2013 Nolan Reimold someone?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Kottaras and Daric Barton the same type of player; excellent players to the Jays bench. Makes the DeRosa signing look even dumber.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Makes the DeRosa signing look even dumber. When does he decide if he's back for 2014 or not??
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 JPA will be non tendered. I sure think so too We can't waste 2.5 to 3.0M on the s*** bag Bring back Mathis
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I wish we didn't have to possibly wait until Dec. 2 to know. Obviously this situation puts pressure on AA to nab a new catcher within the next month. If he doesn't he may not be willing to non-tender JP by Dec. 2.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 We're not running the team though. JPA will be brought back and will be given "one last chance". No Just no
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Certainly we can find someone better then Mathis. However sadly he is an upgrade over JPA. Kottaras as a backup would be a good option. But the focus needs to be on a starter and Carlos Ruiz remains the top option for me. His hamstring doesn't overly concern me it. Was a grade 2 strain. Nothing was torn. I meant Mathis for backup. Should have specified.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 It's to bad Thole forgot how to hit. It once looked like he had some promise with the bat. Perhaps new hitting coach can help tap into that. I know! First two years with the Mets he was a .800-.900 OPS guy.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 When you're only seeing game action every 5 to 6 days, it's kind of tough to get into any type of groove. Or he just sucks.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I think they want to keep the Thole/Dickey combo together. God, I hope not. It's not like Thole is the only person on the planet that can catch a knuckleball.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 God, I hope not. It's not like Thole is the only person on the planet that can catch a knuckleball. Exactly. Pretty sure Ruiz or Ramos can learn to catch it for us.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 Exactly. Pretty sure Ruiz or Ramos can learn to catch it for us. I know I shouldn't but, I'm still holding out hope for McCann.
