jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 lol WTF? We're going to trade the farm for a non-tender candidate. Chicago would probably give him up for a Michael Crouse or Kellen Sweeney type. That's how AA roles.
The_DH Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 lol WTF? We're going to trade the farm for a non-tender candidate. Chicago would probably give him up for a Michael Crouse or Kellen Sweeney type. Also, it's not said to be Osuna, Jimenez, Sanchez or Stroman. Rather, a couple of them. I'd be okay with Sweeney and Crouse in the trade. Nothing more. What do we do with all the backups though.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Jimenez I could do with out. I see him being a backup catcher anyways, but if we give up one of those 3 pitchers for just Beckham I will lose my s***.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 From ESPN insider this morning: Second base was a bit of an offensive black hole for the Toronto Blue Jays this past season. A six-headed combination of Mark DeRosa, Emilio Bonifacio, Munenori Kawasaki, Ryan Goins, Maicer Izturis and Brett Lawrie put together an anemic 2013 stat line -- a .216 batting average, a .297 slugging percentage, 47 RBIs and only eight stolen bases. Clearly, it's a position the team is hoping to upgrade. One player whose name has already entered the conversation is Chicago White Sox second baseman Gordon Beckham. According to Scott Merkin of MLB.com, the Blue Jays explored a possible trade for Beckham last off-season and are still interested in making a deal. The arbitration eligible Beckham won't be a free agent until 2016, which means that in order to acquire him, Toronto might have to give up a couple of prospects such as pitchers Aaron Sanchez, Marcus Stroman, John Stilson and Roberto Osuna, and/or catcher AJ Jimenez, in order to seal the deal. However, the White Sox would probably have to feel confident that Marcus Semien, who hit .261 in 69 September at-bats with the team, would be ready to step in at the position going forward in order to pull the trigger. WTF lol AA is so so stupid that I not doubt that he could press the button. Non-Tender guy for Stroman + Stilson + AJ/Pillar

No way..... Kellen Sweeny will be our next hitting coach. The kid have a great plate discipline and pitch recognition.
Convo Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Gordon Beckham..... wth..... Izturis will probably provide more value
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 The reds gave up Grandal + garbage to get Latos so I think the notion that acquiring Latos required an over-payment is a flawed one. From what I understand the Jays has a package on the table that was arguably better than the Reds one but the Padres did something stupid. Maybe AA could have made an even better offer but I don't think you can pin this entirely on him. You can't make trades without a willing trade partner and sometimes the other team accepts an inferior offer and you just have to move on. Darvish is another story. That was a truly unique opportunity that won't come back. AA's aversion to the FA market pretty much backed him in a corner where he had to make that move. The opportunity to essentially purchase an exclusive negotiation window for an elite player will probably never come back.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 In case anyone was contemplating paying for ESPN "Insider".... I didn't renew my ESPN insider. Other than Keith Law's blogs, the rest of the writers are awful. Especially Jim Bowden who lives in a fantasy land.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 We potentially saved an option and saved a 40 man roster spot, I didn't mind it. Strohman is a potential number 2. he might be the best pitcher the jays have until AA goes out and gets a better one. you dont deal front end pitchers when you are super thin at the front end. Sanchez and Stroman 2 of the guys that the jays really need to pan out going forward. trading either would be borderline brain dead. any stupid deals this off season will seal AA's fate and he can go back to the mail room where they found his fat greek ass.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 A Google image search for "Marcus Stroman" gave me perhaps the worst picture of AA that I've even seen. So I had to share. http://www.canada.com/cms/binary/6890169.jpg
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 And Stroman may be close to major league ready Gotta keep him absolutely... he could very well step into the lineup as their number 2 starter next year. 1) free agent 2)Stroman 3)the Dick 4)Buehrle 5) any one of a plethora of options.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 #KeepTheStroman I'd trade straight up, AA for Beckham... a s*** GM for a s***** player, sounds fair to me.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Relax though, guys AA is NOT trading Marcus Stroman for Beckam. 0 chance.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 #1 - Aaron "Last coke in the desert" Sanchez #2 - Drew "Don't I have the stuff?" Hutchison #3 - Marcus "Can't I start games?" Stroman
Nox Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Relax though, guys AA is NOT trading Marcus Stroman for Beckam. 0 chance. Why is there 0 chance? He's made worse trades in the past.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I'm calling it now: Stroman gets traded for Beckham and Addison Reed. Wouldn't surprise me we all know AA chubby for bullpen arms
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I'm calling it now: Stroman gets traded for Beckham and Addison Reed. GODDAMIT cap filler
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Author Posted October 31, 2013 I'm calling it now: Stroman gets traded for Beckham and Addison Reed. Stroman (SP-RP) has more value than Addison Reed....But we all know that the morons overvalue the SAVEZZ GAMEZZ.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 my only recollection of beckham this season was watching him drop an infield pop fly in the bottom of the 9th allowing the mets to tie the game

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 my only recollection of beckham this season was watching him drop an infield pop fly in the bottom of the 9th allowing the mets to tie the game Funny, I remember him having a really bad series on the base paths against the Jays.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Relax though, guys AA is NOT trading Marcus Stroman for Beckam. 0 chance. You're probably right although if it does happen it would be a pretty epic derp. - AA drafts Beede one pick ahead of Wong - AA drafts Stroman with the compensation pick - AA trades Stroman for Beckham What could have potentially been Wong becomes Beckham. The circle of derp is complete. I'm glad I don't actually believe this will happen.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 I've never seen so much useless whining. AA hasn't traded Stroman and he's not going to, f***ing relax people.
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
