If we're going to trade with Detroit for a pitcher, I'd rather nab Smyly over Porcello

I think they'd be more willing to trade the latter over the former

Porcello would be a nice add, but AA will have no interest in that ERA. I don't think the other two have much of anything to offer, but AA will probably be very interested.

Porcello is overrated on this forum.

~5.5K/9 and ~11HR/FB

btw Dinger factor

Blue jays +5%

Tigers +1%

Why do people think Scherzer and sale would be available . Those type of talents get locked up . I don't think Beane wants Bull Pen Pieces for Anderson

AA is going to completely blow the farm to get what he wants. Let's face it, it's probably more likely he does that than making minor trades for marginal upgrades. It's his last chance and he will go all in.

Do you think targeting Fister could be a realistic possibility? 2 years of control left (probably due for another nice raise from his £4m this season) but Scharzer's down to his last year and is going to cost alot for Detroit to lock him up which makes me wonder if perhaps Fister might be made available to give them more payroll flexibility if they extend Scherzer

Stache I don't mind Cahill . I think AZ wants out of that contract and he is a GB pitcher . Hopefully could be a darn good 4 . Porcello with a really good defense behind him could surprise some and again shouldn't cost a lot. McCarthy isn't really what I want but should be very cheap.

I'm not entirely sure, I think it'd take a lot to get him and for what else could be acquired such as Lee Sale or Price I don't think Fister is the right choice regardless.

All eggs in one basket..........................Alex doesn't know that the basket is broken.

We're screwed.

Is he? He's contributed 12.2 fWAR through the first 5 seasons of his career, is coming off a 3.19 xFIP, and still hasn't turned 25. There's some big breakout potential there that we should be all over if the biggest piece going the other way is a reliever.

The kid depends heavily on their defense to be successful (weak division); Bart Colon is available. Same type of pitcher, lower cost.

I want Stuff guys, K's by tons. f*** pitchability and GB%.

On the right team, he can pull a AJ burnet and lower that ERA by more than a full run.

I agree that there is some upside with a better defense behind him . Lets face it ,Detroit hasn't exactly had much infield defense range wise . Tigers need salary relief , want a lefty ( Smyly ) in the Rotation and need BP help . Good fit for our team .

I'm pretty apprehensive about Cahill. He's owed $20 million over the next two years, and really doesn't come with much upside. I like your Porcello idea a lot more - he'll earn less money, should return less via trade, has more upside, and at this point I think has a very similar floor.

I would agree that Porcello has more upside but i,m just looking at options that would be available for Bull pen pieces which we will either trade or lose to waivers . We have few with options and some pretty good arms just won't fit . AA can easily move two.

Porcello

ERA 4.32, FIP 3.53 = Bad luck, Right?

9/29 GS Vs White Sox and twins

In this case FIP lie to us; His efficiency in 2014 probably don't improve if he play in the AL Wild East.

Porcello would be my preference. As a #4 he wouldn't be a bad option. I just can't see AA settling on a guy like Porcello however, unless he can also land a bigger arm as well. Realustically, we need a #2 quality guy and a #4. If Porcello is the #4 that's not bad at all.

On the one hand, AA could look at Porcello's career ERA and think that he's not very good.

On the other hand, AA could look at Porcello's tools and think that he IS actually quite good. And his ERA wasn't even that bad this year.

Maybe some scout in the org likes his new curveball and writes down a "would acquire" scouting report. Who even f***ing knows anymore. This front office is probably still capable of making good decisions, maybe not for the right reasons, but they've made some in the past.

Porcello had the 13th-best xFIP in baseball this year! Better than many consensus aces. We need to get this guy. A monster waiting to happen.

11th best xFIP- btw. I like xFIP- a lot.

Porcello's K-rate was obviously the biggest change for him this year. I'd take a look at his PD data to see if it seems sustainable, that being the case, if I were better at interpreting PD data.

If you could snag Porcello for a Janssen do it. If you could also bring in Cahill for a bullpen piece and some minor league parts do that as well.

IMO we "need" a 1 and a 2, though we probably won't get it. Look at the steamer projections for our rotation:

Dickey = 4.09

Buehrle = 4.57

Morrow = 4.14

Happ = 4.57

Rogers = 4.60

Hutshison = 4.28

Average SP ERA in the AL in 2013 was 4.15. We were at 4.81 this year. Getting down below average will require a lot more than a 2 and another 4.

So who is the 2 you are going to get ?? Unless you are looking at a salary dump ( who is available ) I just don't see it happening . Do we even have the pieces left on the farm to get a 2 . Sanchez +++ ? Then does AA have the budget to absorb the salary of a two.

Sign Garza. Trade for Porcello (Janssen+). Profit

"would acquire" scouting report.

"Joey Votto. Nice swing but takes too many pitches. Comes from a strong Italian family and works hard.

Mixed bag tools wise but would acquire."

You can't see bounce backs for dickey and morrow?

Dickie I would bet will be around the same as last season. Morrow is hard to say, with all of his injury problems I would not want to put to much stock on him being around for the whole year until he proves he can stay healthy.

I think we're going to get a surprisingly good year out of one of Kyle Drabek or Drew Hutchison

A good year would surprise me a lot more coming from the former than the later.
