Every team that I wanted to go through to the NLCS is now out.... Oakland, Pitts, Cleveland, and Tampa.

I'm sure the money makers and TV networks are happy, the big teams are through. Not an underdog in the pack. For everybody whos team is out of the play-offs: it's boring - I think none of these teams are ones you'd normally want to cheer for as a secondary unless you have some ties to the region. The only thing I have left to cheer for is Farrell to get annihilated and/or humiliated.

2013 team salary of teams moving on:

Los Angeles Dodgers $216M - 2nd

Boston $158M - 4th

Detroit $149M - 5th

St. Louis $116M - 11th

2013 team salary of teams eliminated:

Atlanta $89M - 18th

Oakland $68M - 26th

Pittsburgh $66M - 27th

Tampa Bay $57M - 28th

to be fair theres nothing wrong with detroit. Their players are all likeable unlike the rest of the teams.

I do believe that Oakland were favored to win btw. I never expect the A's to pull off a championship with their formula though. Big sample size winning with everyone on the roster playing a part v star power in a short series, when teams with stars use few pitchers and use little of the bench, generally allows for stars to shine.

Great match ups for the ones who love watching baseball, it's a dream come true.

If tampa had of spent an extra 80 million, they'd be be the odds on favorite to win it all. Money rules baseball,it's a proven recipe 90% of the time in the hands of competent baseball people in the front office. Now that's moneyball.

Yeah I like Leyland and many of their players

I just want to see Oakland make it to the WS, I feel bad for these repeated first round losses

They just keep getting Verlandered

When they trade Price they will be a worse team in 2014 too, no matter how good the prospects they get back are

They're just never QUITE good enough. And you're right, extra $ (even 30-40 M) could fix that.

Rays could be a great team instead of a good team. Sign Choo, McCann, Abreu = 40Mil

LF Choo

2B Zobrist

3B Longoria

RF Myers

DH Abreu

C McCann

1B Loney

SS Escobar

CF Jennings

Price

Moore

Cobb

Archer

Hellickson

The Rays would need a ML-ready prospect in return, so I like to think that they wouldn't drop off that much. They really didn't this year after trading Shields because Myers was ready to step in and contribute.

True. But if they trade Price they're an injury away from having a bad starting rotation. If they trade Price then lose Moore or Archer they're f***ed. They've been lucky (and smart with development maybe is a big part of it) with their starters. Only one major injury to a starter in the last 5 years? You don't see that very often.

Yep. If they keep doing what they're doing they will always be good but probably never good enough to get through 3 post season series.

That's what I wanted the Jays to become under AA. "The Rays with money". A good cheap young starting rotation mostly developed through the draft, a solid core of talent, but with the money to keep guys like Lawrie beyond their arbitration years, and the money to sign a key free agent when you really need to plug a hole.

Obviously it's not happening.

Oakland and Tampa have shown that a smart frugal front office can assemble a good team that can win 90 games. But to ask those teams to win three post season series against teams with $$$ is too much to ask. One of them will get lucky every once and a while and stay healthy and have a good run and beat some of the giants, but the odds are stacked heavily against them every year.

Thankfully for us this will never happen, at least not as long as there in St. Pete.

Based on what I've read, there's a good chance the Rays payroll will be less than it was this season.

Yep. Owner has all but said as much

Price and his 10+ Mil will be gone and they'll spend less than that on other needs.

Longoria's contract then really sticks out like a sore thumb on the team, but he's actually worth every penny

Yeah the Dodgers may spend a lot, but it's only their first year of doing so. In time they'll get hated.

But right now they're a very exciting team with some interesting characters.

Well I was cheering for them because I hated the Braves. I'm continuing to cheer for them because I hate the Cardinals, Tigers and Boston lol

The Dodgers haven't won since 1988 and the Tigers since 1984 and they've never faced each other for the series. It would be a good match up.

Such a hater, you are. LOL. :)

Yeah it really would.

And based on the 4 teams left it's what I want to see for sure

I'll say though, Miguel Cabrera is just not himself right now, home run in the last game notwithstanding. What's the injury??

Groin, abdomen, and a hammy I think. All lingering issues that will effect performance. Wrong time of year unfortunately.

Dammit. Odds of beating Red Sox cut by 30% compared to when he's healthy. Fielder hasn't had a very good season. Lineup not so deep at the moment.

My favorite team is whomever is playing Boston. I have lots to cheer for.

Amen brother, I'll drink to that.

They will get a MLB ready starter in return. I'm hearing that the Braves will want in on Price. I can see Wood, Graham and Sims all going in return.

I'd think someone could beat that package. STL obviously could if they so chose. If Pittsburgh dangled Taillon, probably.

I'm now rooting for the Dodgers, they haven't won a Title since 88.

Plus it would be exciting to watch that city burn and get looted in the celebrations.

The players the Dodgers got from Boston added up to 7 WAR this year, and the Red Sox essentially just saved a crapload of money and bought cheaper players through free agency.

I'm convinced the Red Sox will win the WS, they just have that look about them. That Dodgers/Red Sox trade was huge for the Red Sox, they even got a couple of prospects out of it on top of the huge salary relief.
