Wow........this thread?

I have them at 76 wins right now for 2014... I think they need to add 10 wins... This offseason I want to make sure I state an opinion about whatever happens. Just so when I start bitching I've something one way or the other before it all went down.

The good news is they had historically bad perfomances from J.P., Thole, 2b, Melky, Johnson, Morrow, Romero/Wang. So there is the potential to add 10 wins by choosing the right catcher(s), left field, 2b, sp, and bench players (cause the bench players are going to be used).

(I think Melky will bounce back, but I think they need to make him a 4th outfielder/platoon DH. If he's healthy he'll get 140 games one way or another).

So I think with the right moves they can get to a projected 85 wins... which is fine... then they'll need luck, but that's really the same boat a cleveland or oakland is ussually in anyway.

They had/have talent. Their rotation looked very good, and I didn't count on Cervelli, Granderson, Teixeira, and Pineda combining for like 70 games.

Hmm, fair enough. I don`t think it was wise to count on Pineda though, I figured he wouldn't be back until late July - mid August if at all.

The fact they had several easily identifiable holes that were absolutely awful for them in 2013 actually makes picking up in 2014 a lot easier. They can't help but get better simply by releasing Arencebia, Gibbons, and Johnson. Cabrera should be the full time DH unless they can find someone who will take him off their hands; I truly believe DH is the only position he might contribute next season ( and I'm not sure he will ). They have so many starters coming back that one or two can't help but be better then the #5 and Johnson were this year.

The big upside potential in my opinion resides with Morrow, Stroman, Hutchinson ( if healthy ), Dickey, Lawrie, Reyes ( re play a lot ), a new CA, and a new OF. The wildcard is Cano or a #1/#2 starter acquired via trade ( presumably for Bautista ). Cano would add wins for sure at the price of only $$$$$, whereas the latter scenario is a tricky risk/reward situation.

I think I'd consider rolling the dice on our starters given the shortage of free agents, keep all our good hitters and add some strength in terms of positional players ( eg CA, one of 2B or LF ). I'm concerned about overpaying for a starter ( be it Bautista or a lot of money ) on a weak year, then we find out we had guys almost as good anyways.

You know, now that I look over their numbers they probably had it tougher than we did. The only real positive surprises were Soriano's 2 WAR and maybe Kuroda by a win. Massive disappointment from Hughes, Sabathia, Granderson, Cervelli, Youkilis, Teixeira and maybe Pineda.

Yeah. Tough year for the Yankees for sure. Especially after spending 220 million dollars or more.

So DJBluRay is still there, with a thread titled "I really like Sierra"

"I really like Sierra. I think he can be vital part of the team. Sure he's rough around the edges, but the kid can hit, has a cannon for an arm. I think the Jays should consider this guy for the future. I liked the core talent that I even saw last year. If he can learn to lay off and stop chasing pitches outta the zone I think we might have something here."

Facepalm. blasphemer and prosaic.

Oh, to be young and naive again.

If there was any doubt, this forum is one big hive mind, circle jerk of the same posters blasting anyone who thinks differently or GASP, says anything positive, this thread removes all doubt. Some of you need to get a life. Don't know why the mods let the same daily posters treat others the way they do. I don't agree with the OP, but that's no excuse to throw insults and demean people like they always do.

Being banned doesn't stop you from viewing the board, lol.

Yeah it does and then you have to go around it to view the board and I prefer not to exert effort ;)

This thread deserves a bump. Will the jays make the playoffs in 2014? Prophet CHP has spoken.

No this thread doesn't deserve a bump. Do something better with your time. As much as I f***ing despise CHP, if you have to bump a thread and s*** on him just for being positive, you're dropping to his level. I remember posting on this forum at the start of last season when it wasn't such a cesspool; the few trolls that were negative about every single thing (Metallijay, etc) were crucified by just about everyone in GDT's for constantly bringing everybody down. Less than a year later, nearly every poster on this board is as bad as those trolls. A Blue Jay takes a day off for hamstring tightness and it's the end of the f***ing season already. Almost everything CHP has said on this board has been absolute rubbish, but a post where he asks for people to keep their pessimistic s*** just out of one single thread, and manages to prove that most people here are incapable of doing even that, he's basically just shown that people are getting to be just about as pathetic and miserable as he is.

If your aim was to bump a thread to prove "hah, I'm still miserable and negative as f*** about the upcoming season", well then.. congrats?

I've seriously never seen another message board where it was so welcome to necro dead threads just to collectively s*** on people. Usually people are s***ing on the ones doing the bumping, here it seems to be a weekly tradition.

In before "tldr"

It's kinda astounding that so many people bitch about the message board and how much they hate it but continue posting here. I genuinely don't understand it. I enjoy it, so I post. I don't enjoy other forums like PSD or HF (ew) so I don't post. Meh.

Right.

I never said I hated this forum, I said it was cluttered with s***. I can post when, where and how often as I want, and I can just as easily take a break as I have done several times before. I post here because there are still several quality posters that do provide some quality discussion (granted, you have to wade through an ocean of turd to find it) and because despite all the incessant bitching, crying and flaming, it's a great source of rumors, prospect information and happenings around baseball.

It's the start of the 2014 season. If someone makes a thread stating boldly the Jays will make the playoffs in 2014, I think it should be brought up.

You think if someone made a bold prediction, and they were wrong, it needs to be brought up? http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif

That sounds like a disorder. At the end of the season, are you going to bring up every post just about everybody around here made where the basis of the entire post depended on something along the lines of "Steamer", "Oliver" or "ZiPS"? Because I think it's pretty safe to say the Jays will be closer to the playoffs than any of those systems' off-season numbers will be to reality as a whole by the end of the season.

Since it seems people around here have learned the term "ad hominem", here's one. If anybody other than CHP had made this thread when he did, chances are significantly high that we wouldn't be having a discussion in it right now.

Were you here during the 11 game win streak last season? Probably the highest (happiest?) point this board has ever been. We just need something to cheer about and then things might start to pick up. Unfortunately there hasn't been anything to cheer about since the day the streak ended...didn't we lose the next 20 out of 30 after the 11 wins in a row?

I was here. And I said it myself that it was refreshing to see even the trolls have a day out in the sun. I don't know what that has to do with this though, other than further emphasizing just how depressed this fanbase as a whole has become compared to where they (we) were last year.

Point being , coming off a s***** season which a lot of people had high expectations , not making any offseason upgrades to the team, not making the playoffs in 20+ years. It's understandable to me while people are upset or pessimistic about the team.

It is completely understandable to me why people are pessimistic about this team. I am one of those people. It is not understandable to me, however, why it's some sort of carnal sin to stray away the "hive" of pessimism and be one of the few people that can overlook the s***** offseason and the shittier outlook on the coming season and say "I'm going to take a long-shot stab in the dark and say that the Jays will make the playoffs". As f***ing cliche as it sounds, there is a glass half full analogy here, because as much as everything can go wrong (which is what everybody expects), everything can go right. If the Jays do make the playoffs in 2014, are you going to re-necro this thread and say "well all of us sounded like f***ing morons and CHP is the only one that was right"?

Posted
Yes I would, that would be hilarious. Just like the Ryan Goins thread when Goins becomes the next Alomar or Indy League bench player, or the Kalfus thread when Kalfus becomes a hall of famer or lulu lemon employee.

In those cases, yes there's reason to bump a thread because there's a genuine hilarity about it, and because both those threads have received immortal notoriety at this point. If either of them every actually f***ing dies, people joining these boards a few years from now will likely hear about them and wonder what people are talking about. Of course there's a good chance that they'll still be active threads a few years from now, but I'd rather not imagine that possibility.

I don't have anything against you or anyone else here (maybe CHP is the lone exception) because I don't find any merit in grudges, hate or even dislike, hell, I actually like you as a poster; I just don't agree with ganging up on someone for the sake of ganging up on someone, and I think it's unbecoming to give into him to the point where you have to find old threads of his just to stick it to him. That just screams "took the bait" and that's the ultimate satisfaction for a troll. Better simply to ignore him and let him fester in his own pit of self-loathing, or if you feel you absolutely have to resort to pixelated fisticuffs with him just because he's said something so mind-numbingly stupid that it can't be ignored, then do just that; he has a tendency to give you enough ammunition to use against him in every new autism-inducing post he makes, leaving it largely unnecessary to look for something he said in a prior thread.

I don't understand how people get all worked up on forums, although its usually entertaining, it's starting to take over this board. 1. I think we need to implement mandatory 2-3 day breaks away from the board to certain members. 2. Some members just need to get laid and calm the f*** down.

Well you're awfully darn sensitive if your willing to defend the honor of CHP. Pick a different fight buddy.

Actually, I don't know how many people have embarrassed CHP as badly as I have on this website, but there can't be many. If my posts in this thread come off as defending CHP, then it doesn't show I'm sensitive, it shows I can actually stand up for something I think is right/wrong without being afraid of the backlash from the "real men" on this site (http://i.imgur.com/py2PxcN.gif), rather than joining in and conforming, like a "pussy". If people aren't mature enough to observe or accept criticism without robotically entering useless "lighten up" posts (funny, for a site where everybody spends the bulk of their time raging the f*** out), then the most recent comments should have found their way to a mirror before they were directed at someone else.
