kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 To evaluate the cost of a Sale or Price you need to look at what Latos cost . Ramus+ Stroman isn't getting it done IMO . AA states a starter is # 1 priority but I disagree A Ruiz ?McCann is #1 . Now Obviously McCann would be a huge addition , Probably the single most gain in war this team could make but I'm realistic , the odds of attracting him are very slim so I really want to get Ruiz . AA needs to overpay but after those two the drop off is a lot . Get one of them and then chase a starter but for f***s sake " DO not gut the minors again .
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Yup, that's who I would take too. I've always liked binning guys together and letting them pick. Hopefully they pick the wrong one. #BillyBeaneStyle

GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Sanchez/Osuna + Nolin/Stroman/Hutchison + Lugo for Price/Sale/Bumgarner way before Sanchez + for Parker. Bumgarner is available? Sheeeeeeeit. Which would you rather do? A. Keep Rasmus, Stroman and Sanchez and sign Garza or Tanaka (good but not ace caliber starter at ~ 15MM per) B. Trade Rasmus plus one of Stoman or Sanchez plus maybe Janssen for a higher level pitcher (eg. Price, Sale) and sign Choo or Ellsbury as a free agent B makes the team better in 2014 than A does, BUT it costs you a top pitching prospect and costs more $$ I'd go with B in a heart beat.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Anyone feel like breaking down the payroll implications of: Trade Rasmus, Stroman, Janssen for David Price or Chris Sale. (Use Delabar or Santos for closer) Sign Ellsbury or Choo for 5 years Sign Ruiz (prefer McCann but Ruiz more realistic) Let Rajai walk and keep Gose as 4th OF (money savings) Trade Happ for nothing but salary relief (prob eat 1/3 of salary) Is that so outrageously expensive that it's not even worth discussing??
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Why would the White Sox trade Sale for a deal with one year of Rasmus as the centerpiece? Also, big no on Parker from me. He'd have a 4.5 ERA here. I think Rasmus should be extended before the arbitration deadline for 3-4 years at slightly less AAV than his best year of arbitration would get him. I think he accepts.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Why would the White Sox trade Sale for a deal with one year of Rasmus as the centerpiece? They went pretty hard after Rasmus IIRC and they'd probably be able to lock him up. But I doubt it as well. Is that so outrageously expensive that it's not even worth discussing?? It's not stupid expensive but it's probably too much.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 I don't even think we have the pieces for Price or Sale. I strongly disagree. The question is do we have the right pieces that we're willing to give up for Sale or Price.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Yeah, it's a pretty awful proposal. I have no idea why they'd trade Sale, but if they do it won't be for a couple of free agents and a ~50th-ranked prospect. I don't even think we have the pieces for Price or Sale. Aah.. the coming off-season and the homerism it brings.. package 4 glorifed org guys and that = franchise cornerstone. People should also see Sanchez for what he is. A fringe Top 50 guy still finding his way through A-ball at 21 (22 next year) with command issues and still developing secondary stuff. Exciting for the team that drafts him to see if he can reach his potential but you arent trading a superstar for that as your main bait. If I'm moving Sale its for guys like Walker, Wacha, Taillon +.. that sort of thing.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Clearly not. Nothing from the ML roster is expendable except for relievers, so we'd be looking at moving pieces from the farm. WE could offer Stroman, Sanchez, Gose, and Nolin and TB and the Sox would both be offered a package built around a blue chip guy that would dwarf that return. Oh, I certainly agree, I'm just pointing out that there's a difference between saying we don't have the pieces and saying we don't have the right pieces we'd be willing to give up.

If there are teams offering up top 20 guys in a similar package then I doubt the Jays have a shot. Depending on the number of top flight pitchers moved the Jays might have a chance. I also highly doubt Wacha, Walker or Taillon are going anywhere. I could see Iwakuma or Paxton being moved though.

Not saying there arent teams out there that are intrigued by his potential. But honestly, think of if we had Sale and we traded him for a guy like Sanchez (who we could look at objectively if he was on another team) and guys like Nolin, Hutch added on.. wouldnt be many happy campers
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2013 Posted September 27, 2013 Sanchez is going to take a massive step forward at some point and people will be back on his bandwagon. People are just upset that Syndergaard took such a large step forward. Anyone who thinks he isn't a legit talent is insane. Would I have picked Syndergaard over Sanchez hell yes I would. He looks like the next Mat Latos. People need to relax. Trust in the talent. You're basing that you "know" this massive step forward is coming based on what? Not saying it cant happen but your evaluation is dripping in homerism. He's not an ELITE prospect. There's some raw ingredients there obviously showing talent but let's not pretend he's an elite propect that gets the convo started for a franchise cornerstone. I saw this mentioned on here awhile back but he would be the nice centerpiece for a guy like Howie Kendrick. I remember most ppl on here being against that.. and honestly in 3 years when 80% of the pitchers with AS's profile dont amount to squat, they would be pretty stupid. Although I will say Jays are too far away to make that move. But if they signed Ruiz and Jacoby or something, then would be diff.
