That would've been a horrible deal for the Braves. Obviously it was offered but, I doubt the Braves were close to accepting it unless ATL really just wants out of that Upton contract.

 

The Jays could get a ton for Bautista. Substantially more than the Drabek + Taylor + d'Arnaud the Jays got for Halladay IMO. If I was AA and dealing with TEX the deal would have to start with Profar and it would have to include pitching as well. I'd ask for Profar + Holland + Gallo but, the Jays would be pretty lucky to get that much talent back and it would probably require sending more TEX's way.

 

Doubt the Jays would get back both Profar and Holland in the same deal.

Why on Earth would the Braves even consider that? Garza is a FA and the Braves already have the best bullpen in baseball. File that offer under Retarded/Insulting.

 

When I read that from Ken Rosenthal, I was astounded. What an awful offer by the Rangers. It's a slap in the face if you ask me. Garza is a FA at the end of the season, the Braves have no use for a 40-year-old reliever in Nathan with Kimbrel, and Murphy is just a platoon player. Upton is still young and is far more valuable long term. I know he isn't having the best season and really slowed down after his hot start, though he's still a solid player who is capable of having a monster year at any given time.

If a win is worth 5M then there is no surplus value and the tail end of that contract could be bad. If the cost of a win is 10M then it is a decent contract. I still wouldn't give up very much for Andrus. Tex gave him a top of the market contract, no need to give up value for a SS that isn't an above average starter. There are much bigger needs for this team.
