Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 The war against rWAR will begin in 5...4...3...2...1... http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2013&month=0&season1=2013&ind=0
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Well in defense of Miggy, its not his fault the Tigers believe he's a 3rd baseman.
admin Site Manager Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 What would Miggy's WAR be if he was an adequate defender? 11?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 What would Miggy's WAR be if he was an adequate defender? 11? Off the chart
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Well in defense of Miggy, its not his fault the Tigers believe he's a 3rd baseman. Hahaha. So true. They have 3 guys who should be nothing but 1B/DH We should get Victor Martinez. If only we had a 3B to trade them...
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Plus then we'd have 3 guys who can only play 1B/DH and 4 unless Melky gets moving
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Donaldson for MVP, He's a legit candidate but Miggy is the guy.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 Trout is the guy. Trout's contributions have not been converted into wins for the Angels....But yes, He's the best baseball player on earth
Jays Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 What would Miggy's WAR be if he was an adequate defender? 11? Considering how bad of a defender he is, they could replace Miggy with Goins and only lose about 2 wins. hahaha
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 MostValuablePlayer. WAR is in terms of value. Making the post season has nothing to do with it. WAR is about create and prevent runs, No win games. MVP is a quasi-collective award lol stats + playoff = MVP
Jays Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 WAR is about create and prevent runs, No win games. You win games by creating and preventing runs.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 You win games by creating and preventing runs. Not necessarily. This is not tennis, it's baseball. It is a sport in which many men are involved.
Jays Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Not necessarily. How do you win games then? Kluch hitting and Vetrin's presents?
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 How do you win games then? Kluch hitting and Vetrin's presents? You win by scoring more than the opponent, which sometimes is a lot about situational hitting, pitching and defense.
Jays Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 You win by scoring more than the opponent yes, which is done by creating and preventing runs
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 How do you win games then? Kluch hitting and Vetrin's presents? You win games when all you team create and prevent runs. Should be a difference between best player and most valuable player. Last year Trout was the MVP. Trout's contributions made the Angels a competitive team.
Jays Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 You win games when all you team create and prevent runs. Should be a difference between best player and most valuable player. Last year Trout was the MVP. Trout's contributions made the Angels a competitive team. It's not Trout's fault his team is exceptionally worse this year.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 yes, which is done by creating and preventing runs Trout's + Angels contributions only serve to make the Angels win 48% of their games. McCutchen + Pirates 58%
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 It's not Trout's fault his team is exceptionally worse this year. So I said, "He's the best player in 2013" Valuable = win games, real games.
Jays Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 if Donaldson was on the Angels and Trout was an Athletic, would the Angels be better than what they are?
Jays Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Valuable = win games, real games. The angels have won 73 games this year. Those are real wins. They'd be a whole lot worse without Trout, he can't carry a bad team by himself, he's the best player in baseball and he still can't get them above .500.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Author Posted September 17, 2013 your dumn Enlighten me with your wisdom omnipotent.... bitch
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Hahaha. So true. They have 3 guys who should be nothing but 1B/DH We should get Victor Martinez. If only we had a 3B to trade them... Old, broken, expensive, defensively limited......what more could a team ask for.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 WAR is about create and prevent runs, No win games. MVP is a quasi-collective award lol stats + playoff = MVP Andre Dawson & George Bell, 1987???
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Not necessarily. This is not tennis, it's baseball. It is a sport in which many men are involved. So essentially what you're saying is, the highest WAR player of his respective league whose team makes the playoffs. So if the Pirates were to miss the playoffs by 1 game=Matt Carpenter MVP. If the Pirates slide into the playoffs by one game, McCutchen is the MVP. Stupid f***ing thinking.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Carpenter is a legit candidate. Cutch obviously blows him away, but he's not a bad candidate.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 You win games when all you team create and prevent runs. Should be a difference between best player and most valuable player. Last year Trout was the MVP. Trout's contributions made the Angels a competitive team. So if the Houston Astros had a 20 WAR player, he wouldn't be in the running for the MVP award? Individual awards shouldn't be dependent on team success. It's not Trout's fault that he plays for a stupid franchise that can't spend money properly.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 if Donaldson was on the Angels and Trout was an Athletic, would the Angels be better than what they are? Amazing to think based on Angrioter, or whoever he is, thought process. If Josh Donaldson was dealt at the deadline to a non-playoff team, Miguel Cabrera wins the MVP.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Carpenter is a legit candidate. Cutch obviously blows him away, but he's not a bad candidate. I understand he's a good candidate. My scenario was based more on the situation of missing or making the playoffs by one game. And crowning a less deserving player due to slightest of differences in team record.
theblujay Verified Member Posted September 17, 2013 Posted September 17, 2013 Some of you actually think Donaldson should win the MVP?!?!?
