oakville69 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 (edited) AA must be relieved that with today's victory against Baltimore, the Jays have more wins than the 2004 season where they finished with 67 wins. The big question is whether or not the team can do better than last year's 73 win season. The rest of the games are against AL East teams that are fighting for playoff spots except the Red Sox which are virtually guaranteed a spot. The other teams will be motivated to win games, so it will be a good test Thoughts? I just realized after writing this post that I meant 2013 not 2014. Can the Jays win more than 73 games in 2013 ?. GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Thoughts? We'll go 78-81 on the heels of signing a big FA, it'll be marked as a step in the right direction, and AA and Beest will have their contracts extended before the FA tanks, a newly extended Rasmus forgets how to play baseball, Bautista and Reyes are plagued by injuries, and Edwin requests a trade, forcing us to trade him for pennies and pocket lint. Sigh.

Jays Verified Member Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 If we don't make the playoffs next year, then it's a fail.
Convo Verified Member Posted September 15, 2013 Posted September 15, 2013 Probably finish around .500. Playing upset in September again.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2013 Author Posted September 15, 2013 Probably finish around .500. Playing upset in September again. I worry about the AL East. The Yankees with a depleted lineup are in a wildcard race. They should be healthier next year. Orioles are a good team. Tampa might be a bit weaker. It's going to be tough to get to the playoffs. Hopefully AA can fill the holes.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted September 28, 2013 Author Posted September 28, 2013 The Jays win today gives them 74 on the year , so they have officially improved compared to last year. Tomorrow will be an epic battle against the Rays.

kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Well, the season is officially a success. Being less s***** than before can certainly be one measure of success.

oakville69 Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 Well I am encouraged by the play of the Buffalo call ups. Goins,Gose, Redmond have a shot at being on the opening day roster in 2014. The Jays have been facing teams that in playoff contention for most of the past month. The bullpen looks like it will lead the Al in 2014. Santos looks like a awesome set up man. Hutch,Drabek can help. I am very optimistic for 2014.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 Goins,Gose, Redmond have a shot at being on the opening day roster in 2014. This gives you OPTIMISM?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 I was thinking the same thing. Those guys will all be in the -0.5 to 0.5 WAR range next year. I could see Gose being above that, actually. Not by too much but still.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted September 29, 2013 Author Posted September 29, 2013 I was thinking the same thing. Those guys will all be in the -0.5 to 0.5 WAR range next year. That's pessimistic. A full year of Goins can't outproduce Boni/Izturis? Redmond pitching at current levels can't do better than Josh Johnson? I assume Melky will be better. Bautista,Reyes,Colby at full health should be fine. The Jays can't have 3 years in a row of above average injuries can they??
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 29, 2013 Posted September 29, 2013 That's pessimistic. A full year of Goins can't outproduce Boni/Izturis? nope Redmond pitching at current levels can't do better than Josh Johnson? nope (probably) The Jays can't have 3 years in a row of above average injuries can they?? yep .
