GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 But... you hate double negatives. Ryan Goins' existence on a major league roster is a double negative so it's okay.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Ryan Goins' existence on a major league roster is a double negative so it's okay. Touché!
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Best. Post. Ever. "Woohoo! The 4th of July is next weekend!" "Oh yeah, I forgot about that. When is that, again ... July 6th? Don't give me that look, you effing squirrel!" As much as I don't drink the SABR Kool-Aid that is a pretty funny post. All you need to know is what WAR stands for to know what replacement level is.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Damn, I just started reading this thread now...I feel like I owe it to myself to read all 146 pages now It's a great read. The plot is a little weak but the dialogue is great. You'll laugh, you'll cry.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 I'm disappointed that my commentary regarding gruber's insinuated special relationship with a teenage boy was usurped by this new statement ... but he's such a fertile ground of signatory-level remarks, it's inevitable. gruber92 is the founder of the "sig of the month club" ... the gift that keeps on giving the whole year. It was painful, making the change. I must apologize. But it was necessary. You simply can't turn down greatness. RIP Moogy Sig 2014-2014
theblujay Verified Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I'm glad the season is finally here so we can see what Goins can do.
bzapple Verified Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 I'm glad the season is finally here so we can see what Goins can do. Or not do.
theblujay Verified Member Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 The regular season is never a place "to see what he can do", for any player, ever, unless you're the Astros or Marlins. We get it, you don't like Goins and you don't want him to get a chance. On the other hand I'll be cheering for Goins cuz he's on my favorite team and hoping he has a great year
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I'd like to hear the FO come out with a rationale for expecting players like Goins and Sierra to outperform any reasonable expectations based on their minor league numbers. Something tangible that isn't "they played well down the stretch last year". I wonder if AA even entertained a trade for a second baseman. If he talked to Seattle, I have a feeling they don't want to part with Franklin, for whatever AA was offering. They probably wanted to trade Ackley, and AA wasn't interested, and I don't blame him. Franklin >> Ackley Goins should be able to put up similar or better than Ackley's career MLB numbers to date while providing better defense.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Nope... Want to bet he puts up better numbers than Ackley did in his first year big mouth?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 .220/.245/.290 Prediction: Edwing's SLG > Goins' OPS
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 lol I have no faith in Goins succeeding but it would be so enjoyable to see him do well just to see this thread implode.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Goins is OUT before getting out of his bed. He's a f***ing walking out. Worst than JPA
Caper Verified Member Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Goins is OUT before getting out of his bed. He's a f***ing walking out. Worst than JPA He took some great AB's this weekend... not much in the way of results... but some great AB's.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Want to bet he puts up better numbers than Ackley did in his first year big mouth? I will bet you $200. Dead serious.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 He took some great AB's this weekend... not much in the way of results... but some great AB's. All his whole life Goins has been a horrible hitter, but you focus on just one week? Vamos hombre!!!!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I'll go for $400 then. I don't think I'm allowed to bet more than that considering I'm 9. C'mon Gruber, don't you want to take on some big mouths?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 This reminds me of the time Dinger made the Porcello 7 K/9 bet and we all though it was a lock. Porcello is good at baseball, though.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Also, I'm in for $1000. I'm in for $1000 as well. I'm in with $1000 (The money to build my hut)
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I will bet you $200. Dead serious. Why don't you use that money and buy my f***ing Leaf tickets from me
