GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 No but he is partially responsible just like the players are Awesome reply, so factual. Wow, yeah, let's fire Gibby because we're gonna lose 90 games instead of 89! He should get that 1 extra win he may or may not contribute to! He sucks! God. Obviously a manager has some impact on the team in some way. Just because it's not easily quantifiable doesn't mean it's not there. Aside from the semantics, it's a fair argument, but it's really not that impactful.
KSaw Verified Member Posted August 19, 2013 Posted August 19, 2013 When you're getting in fistfights with your players, it's a disaster. When your organization decides they would rather have a 64-year-old who hadn't managed in over a decade than you, it's a disaster. Shea Hillebrand acting like a jerk and Gibby threatening to punch him is hardly a fist fight, nor is Lilly freaking out after blowing an 8 run lead. So the bi-polar guy snapped, threw a hissy fit on the mound, trashed the dugout and it less to shoving with Gibby. Big deal. You want fist fights, Billy Martin had a few with players. Gibbons was hung for being JP Ricchardi's good friend and JPA was getting dumped himself. It's always easy to blame the manager but it isn't always where the blame should be placed.
