Laika Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 You guys need to relax. Think about it this way, if you were a team trying to win a World Series, would you really want Johnson, Oliver, Bonifacio, DeRosa, Melky, Juan Perez, etc? No, you probably wouldn't. Sure, you might want a quality reliever like Janssen, Delabar, Loup, or Cecil, but the Jays are certainly going to try to win in 2014, and those guys are under control and will probably still be good next year. There's only one guy that I could see competitive teams really wanting that Toronto should trade, and that's Rajai Davis. But so f***ing what. You might get a PTBNL for him. If you want to get upset that they're trying to compete with this core, then that's warranted I guess. But it's nonsensical to get upset that the Blue Jays aren't making a deadline trade, given the context. Blame AA for making the context, not for acting appropriately within it.
bzapple Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Lol, worst deadline ever. Almost nothing of interest. Wasn't expecting anything from the Jays but usually there's at least a surprise or two around the league.

Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Expected this from the Jays but I am disappointed as a whole. I thought there would be more then 3 lousy trades. I would of liked to see a couple doooseys.
KSaw Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Lets just let Stilson dominate Triple-A until he has to be put on the 40-man. K Luis Perez will come off the DL and be ahead of Stilson. Weber, Wagner, Lincoln and (a healthy) Schwimmer are ahead of him too.

Well now we get to watch 5-6 relievers rot in AAA next year. Oh yeah and we didn't improve the team at all. This is the beginning of the end of Bautistas trade value
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I have no problem trading Oliver. What's ridiculous is your take on asset management. Oliver will still be dealt. He can be easily be a post waiver trade guy

This is the beginning of the end of Bautistas trade value Is offseason/waiver trading illegal in the new CBA or something? If the right deal wasn't out there, then it wasn't out there. Can't really blame AA for not wanting to part with his top BP arms. He'll want them next year. It sucks that Oliver has been so crummy this year, he could've been a chip. Juan Perez has pitched well but you can totally see why nobody would want to trade for him. Nobody is going to rot in AAA. The team has cycled through like, 20 f***ing relievers already this year. Guys will get their chances.

SAAviour Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 I'd be a lot angrier if other teams traded a lot of players, but not much actions at all. I would have thought with such few sellers that buyers would pay a premium but it doesn't appear that way. I guess not much AA could do. Still, #hatethisteam

We have a surplus that other teams want and we did nothing to preserve a bullpen.

I do think that there was a missed opportunity with Cleveland. The Cards jumped in. They have a glut of good young middle infielders and Cecil was a good chip to play. Other than that, I'm with you, though I do feel that Oliver, DeRosa and Bonifacio will all clear waivers and still be moved. The returns will be cash, a PTBNL or kids who would be rule 5 exposed at the Winter Meetings. Might find a diamond in the rough there but unlikely. Edited July 31, 2013 by KSaw Typos
JSFIP Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 AA is going to address the media in a few minutes Can't wait I can. I can't even look at the guy without wanting to throw up
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 AA is going to address the media in a few minutes Can't wait We took some calls, but no one offered us anything that we felt could bring this team to the next level whether that is this year or next. We still believe in this team moving forward... You don't need to listen now
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 AA is going to address the media in a few minutes Can't wait "Deals were on the table, but didn't work out" "We didn't want to weaken our bullpen for our playoff run this year"
vdartanian Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Oliver will still be dealt. He can be easily be a post waiver trade guy As could Bonifacio, Rajai, Buehrle, Johnson (if he can ever get his s*** together) and a couple of our surplus RP's. No need to panic, although I'm not sure I believe anything significant will likely get done.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 AA is going to address the media in a few minutes Can't wait Yes I guess we will all find out why he didn't bite on that Oliver for Profar deal.

Still, #hatethisteam The rest of our division had no problems getting deals done. We had an excellent trade chip in Bautista which has now been wasted. We had plenty of tradeable assets in the bullpen. There's no spinning this: AA f***ed up. Badly. End of story.
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 Ugh I'm getting sick of this guy
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Aaron Sanchez, Roberto Osuna and AA's last Butterfinger for Jeff Locke and Russell Martin. Jays didn't want Martin.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 AA's lying out his ass. Complete ******** and he knows it. He just didn't want to admit he screwed up and start the rebuild. PATHETIC.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 come on someone ask him about texas
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Not surprising. 90% of the crap floating around out there is probably made up by journalists desperate to validate their salaries.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 Then why did he do the Marlins and Dickey trades? Those made the ballclub WORSE.
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 31, 2013 Author Posted July 31, 2013 I guess letting them walk helps the team more
