FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I don't understand why people are still committed to AA. This front office has no idea how to build a team. Four years going and no single good young-ish starting pitching. This. AA is horrible. Overpaying for crap starting pitching, giving up on d'Arnaud in favor of the worst catcher in baseball, cobbling together an extremely imbalanced lineup whose back end struggles to reach replacement level, hiring one of the worst managers in baseball, etc. Now he's just going to stand pat at the deadline instead of selling when it's abundantly clear that this roster sucks and will never win anything. AA is still living off the Vernon Wells trade, which looks more and more like a combination of fluke luck and the Angels' idiocy as opposed to anything AA did by the day.
bzapple Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 When Oliver's name got dropped, a PTBNL was considered to be the cost. Yeah, everyone is insisting that we trade him, and sure it makes sense, but I can't imagine there would be much of a market for 2 months of a 42 year old reliever having a mediocre season who's going to retire after this year.
bzapple Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 And some other teams have a half-dozen cost-controlled starters lol. The A's are paying nothing to their rotation of Parker, Griffin, Milone, Straily and Colon. The Cardinals pay nothing to everyone but Wainwright, but he's producing above his salary anyway. Just about every other team has one or two young studs making the minimum or in early arbitration: Rays, Red Sox, Orioles, Tigers, Indians, White Sox, Rangers, and that's just the AL. The Blue Jays have guaranteed $86.75M to the top three members of their rotation and are tied for the worst starters ERA in baseball. The Astros spent $0 above the minimum and run out random scrubs every day and have a starters ERA 33 points lower. I don't understand why people are still committed to AA. This front office has no idea how to build a team. Four years going and no single good young-ish starting pitching. Good post, and I was just going to say that the A's should be all over Howie Kendrick if the Angels are willing to trade within the division. Straily + something for Kendrick perhaps?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Tony Cingrani is UNDERrated. He hits 95 from the left with exceptional command and a changeup that flashes plus. He reminds me a lot of Cliff Lee, and I don't think he'll get his due respect until he sustains this production for a full season, but he is a damn good pitcher. 35.7 % GB and 12.2% HR/FB Cingrani must work on his secondary stuff, once the hitters fit for his high-fastball the things will turn ugly to him. He's good, not great. Hutchison or Cingrani?

We were on the right track to have good cost controllered players.AA finally gave in to all the fans wanting Blue Jays to spend. He made a rookie move and went all in when he thought he had a good chance of winning with up and down str8 flush draw on the flop. He missed the turn and now we are sinking in the river.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Tony Cingrani is little overrated. He look like a relievers at times (ALA Jason Frasor)........ Fastball, Fastball and more high heat. Don't know much about Cingrani. I liked him at the time of his draft and the peripherals look good. Seems like he could be a decent mid-rotation LHP.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 If we can unload Mark Buehrle for some salary relief i would be content going into next year with Morrow, Dickey, Cingrani, Johnson (1 year Q/O) and Happ. At least we would have the likes of Hutch, Drabek, Romero (lol), Stroman and Nolin in AAA for depth.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 JJ + Janssen for Tyler Glasnow + Alen Hanson
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Uh-huh. They always acted as if the Lansing Three were off-limits and that should have been the case. I never would have traded those three unless it was for a young stud like Latos. ALA Stanton for Bogaerts (No Lee)?

fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Dodgers sign Brian Wison to a Minor League Deal
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Andrus, Olt, Perez for Bautista please
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Andrus, Olt, Perez for Bautista please Isn't Olt a Cub?
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 If we acquired Andrus my boner would not subside. Bautista + Stiltion for Andrus + Harrison + MLB Relief pitcher That's the only thing I see in my mind... I don't see Daniels selling low on Andrus
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Isn't Olt a Cub? Yea, I was thinking Odor and Olt came out.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 If we acquired Andrus my boner would not subside. That actually makes for a decent fantasy name: Unsubsiding Boners, or Perpetual Boners.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I was just coming on to post the same thing http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/07/rangers-willing-to-listen-on-anyone.html I would love it if we got Andrus, only 24, good defence. We could move Reyes over to 2nd. And infield of EE, Reyes, Andrus, Lawrie would greatly please me.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 If we acquired Andrus my boner would not subside. Do you want a 3WAR SS for 15AAV?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Bautista + Stiltion for Andrus + Harrison + MLB Relief pitcher That's the only thing I see in my mind... I don't see Daniels selling low on Andrus No way. Profar or bust I prefer Aybar 8AAV over Andrus 15AAV.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I'm curious as to what Andrus would cost us.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 I'm curious as to what Andrus would cost us. The deal would start around Andrus and Joey Bats/Edwin Enc
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 12M of surplus. Absolutely. Aybar is a more economical version with similar results (2 or 3 years) or Do you want build a team around a good defensive player?
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Profar would be wayyyy sicker than Elvis
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 It would greatly improve the team. The 2B hole would be filled by Reyes, and the defensive issues at short would be gone. I;d rather target Alexei Ramirez. Andrus is a great player, better than Alexei but, he's going to cost a ton to land. I don't know if AA even has the pieces to get it done.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Aybar is a more economical version with similar results (2 or 3 years) Aybar is a more economical version with lesser results, lesser defence, and 5 year added on...
GNick Verified Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Andrus fall off in play immediately after signing big contract scares me away from him.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 No way. Profar or bust I prefer Aybar 8AAV over Andrus 15AAV. I agree
