BarrysSyringe Verified Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 This offseason would you guys except a rebuild? With the guys that we have we could be getting bluechip prospects that are close to mlb ready. You know texas would be interested in Bautista, Reyes could fetch a lot and so could Edwin. If they were to rebuild what pitchers could you see then keeping? Not trying to be a hommer but just a thought.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 If we are rebuilding, the only MLB player we should keep is Lawrie
baubau Verified Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 If we are rebuilding, the only MLB player we should keep is Dickey Fixed that for you. But jokes aside, IF the team does rebuild I'd be open to hearing offers even for Lawrie. I can only imagine how he would act without Bautista to try and keep him cool headed.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Big "if". There's no way they'll rebuild after one year of trading away what would arguably be a top 5 maybe top 3 farm system to go "ALL IN".
bzapple Verified Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 No, I don't think management is giving up on this current model just yet, and if they did, AA would be a out of a job. They'll do some retooling, probably find an improvement at 2B (or 3B, depending on where this nonsense with Lawrie is going), hopefully make some minor additions to improve the overall depth, and basically just hope for better health and some rebound performances.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 Here's an article from Bluebird Banter on the jays' 2014 payroll: http://www.bluebirdbanter.com/2013/7/20/4541398/moneyball-eh-the-jays-2014-team-payroll I have to believe they took this into consideration before making the trades. They have to move Janssen in my opinion, it just doesn't make sense to have both Janssen and Santos making 4M each, but this is the Blue Jays so you never know.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 zero chance you rebuild in a time of increased attendance, you rebuild when all aspects of things are on a downside. Chances are despite the poor play and increased payroll the profits are up and as much as I hate it, that's part of the GM's job. I think they will tinker a little bit look for some small moves and pretty much throw out the same lineup and hope it plays better. Maybe they buy further but they will be a little gun shy.

I think I read somewhere that it also makes sense to rebuild when you have young players just about ready to graduate to MLB and others who are in MLB already taking their lumps. Don't remember where I read this, maybe I dreamt it or something.

I didn't see the 8M(?) they got from the Marlins so I assume either Beeston is getting it as a bonus at the end of the year or it was phony money and they're too embarrassed to admit to being conned by Loria.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 If that's the case, and I suspect it is, attendance is going to crash hard when the team is under 0.500 again next year. no doubt about it. it's going to be a tough sell in the off season to get those tickets sold but I just booked September tickets on a weekend and the tickets are in the section 510 so there won't be a drop off for weekends this year. It's possible they try to make another off season splash but damn they have to worried you would think...and they have so much less for trading assets.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 ~138 millioms without add pieces....Buehrle 18 millions? We're screwed
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 It was used against this year's payroll IIRC. So then this year's payroll is more like 110M which also means Buehrle's salary is more like 5M (?). It means that in all likelihood, they'll have to look to plug the holes with cheaper, younger and hopefully better options.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 I would give my left nut to sit in on the JPA arbitration case and hear him give his case as to why he deserves $3M.

JFaS said they're using it against this year's payroll so I figure it means they're paying 111M and using the 8M from the Marlins. Certainly irrelevant for next year's payroll, but was just wondering about it.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 for me personally I'd take him to arbitration, tell him to show up without representation just to have the great laugh. Pay him the arbitration amount and then release him. It would be worth the money.

Our actual salaries this year are $127M with all the guys they have brought up.

BarrysSyringe Verified Member Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 So you wouldnt trade bautista and a prospect for profar in the offseason?
BarrysSyringe Verified Member Posted July 21, 2013 Author Posted July 21, 2013 I am not suggesting blowing the team up i am suggesting a year rebuild. Trade Dickey for what you can get for him, and Bautista for two blue chippers that are close to MLB ready, qualify JJ with a offer and get the comp pick, get rid of Beurhle for a bag of balls. I would love to see Bautista ++ to Texas for Profar. Bautista is only going to regress and so is Eddie. The quality of prospects you could get for Bau and Eddie would be prime. The next year you turn to free agency and sign some guys to put your team over the top. I have alot of hope for Hutch and if Drabek can figure out his control issues, he has all the talent in the world. That leaves you going forward with a rotation of Morrow, Hutch, Happ, Drabek and a 1 year stop gap. The next coming year Sanchez will likely be ready to step into the rotation and help us, who knows but there are lots of options. Im just speculating of course but there is a 1 in a million chance Anthopolous does this and risks his job
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
