gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I was thinking about this for a bit and would like to hear other opinions, although i do realize Lawrie's move second base appears as though it may stick(for now). How would these two compare in terms of range, arm strength and overall smarts? I say nobody in the MLB can charge an infield dribbler up the line and make a hard accurate throw to first like Lawrie can. Overall though, tough choice.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 I know you asked about defense. But unfortunately, Machado is so much better a hitter that minor differences in defence mean little overall.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Right now it'd have to be Machado, Lawrie makes more mistakes, but might have the better potential 3rd defense. Machado is better suited for short. Machado, sorry. Have you seen Lawrie's throws? Really hard, but too frequently off the mark (Lind & EE saved him so many times). Also he doesn't have the "softest hands", often fumbles and has to recover.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Machado and it's not even close. Lawrie is a spaz with boxy hands who manages to rescue a lot of plays with a rocket arm. Machado has it all.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Machado though I think Lawrie covers more ground.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Machado though I think Lawrie covers more ground. I think Lawrie has better range and slightly better reaction time. Arm strength is probably about equal, with Machado a little more accurate. Machado is way WAY smoother.

Manny is an excellent fielder who will become elite with experience. It's not close.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2013 Posted July 20, 2013 Machado and it's not even close, this is kind of an unfair question as Machado will be a Gold Glover at SS his natural position. Machado will be GG at 3B and then at SS
Arjun Nimmala Vancouver Canadians - A+ SS It's been slow going at the start of the season for Nimmala, but on Sunday, he was 3-for-5 with his 3rd home run and 3 RBI. Explore Arjun Nimmala News >
