Small sample size, but is he starting to deserve his own thread?

Can you prospect gurus tell me if his age is appropriate for the level he is in?

Avg: .308

For someone like him who's known for his defense/speed those numbers are great. K rate is still high though.

I was unfairly down on him a month ago. As a first round draft pick he isn't exactly where you'd like to see him. Trout, Snider, Gose, Lawrie were all 2 levels higher at his stage (second year in system, year they turned 19). So ideally you would of liked to see him in Lansing this year. But they thought he wasn't ready for that.

So many prospects fail. Really good guys just push their way through the system. So I would say we'll have to wait to next year to really know. If he starts tearing it up at Lansing then it's time to get excited.

Keeping him in the lower level is something I wouldn't disagree with. Because I think he is actually showing promise unlike Smoral (sigh...). Another fact I m seeing in him is that he has lots extra bases, which would indicate good hands, so as long as he can train his eyes, he'd be good?

It seems the dig on Gose is that he has good eyes but no approach.

No problem keeping him at a lower level. But for the moment moves him from an A prospect to B. The real good prospects can handle Lansing their second year.

Lots of time for him to catch up.

Sure he is young, label me a Smoral pessimist. just think one of our million dollar babies has to bust.

I don't think any of our high school draftees have started off in lansing 1 year after their draft. Just the way our HS draftees are babied, it's really more of an organizational philosophy than an indication for prospect's potential/ability.

So what you're saying is that you have absolutely no basis to your argument?

He's not a guy that was expected to move fast. One level a year for the next couple years at least. Oddly enough right as we are seeing his bat look good, there are reports of misplayed balls and bad reads. Would like to see him in Vancouver where there are people I know who can give direct reports on his progress.

other than current sss, which makes him a target for busting.

Just wondering, where do you get those reports from?

This makes no sense. A SSS does not lend itself to anything thing even remotely conclusive. It's too small.

that was my way of saying "NO" to your original question.

DJ Davis 2-5, 3B, SB, 2K

All he needs to do is make more contact and he would be a stud but besides the k rate he is doing very well. Getting on base and hitting for extra bases

mostly twitter (team pages, usually find a fan or two that go to every game and scouts that go to games). Also BA and local papers. Facebook in some cases and listening to the games on the radio if available.

D.J. Davis Trending Up

D.J. Davis, of, Blue Jays: The Blue Jays used the 17th overall pick in last year’s draft on Davis, one of the youngest players in the draft class (he turns 19 on Thursday). Davis’ speed immediately grabs scouts’ attention, grading at the top of the 20-80 scale and giving him plenty of range in center field and making him a constant threat on the basepaths. Davis isn’t a polished hitter, but he’s more than just a one-dimensional legs guy. In Rookie-level Bluefield, Davis is is hitting .301/.390/.544—a slugging mark that’s boosted by six triples, his latest coming yesterday—and showing signs that the tools are starting to translate to performance. The strikeouts are still something he’s going to have to cut back on, but things are moving in the right direction for Davis.
