John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I'm as on board with the Raps as anyone, but before I go over the deep end, I really want to see how they play against Dallas. Yes they beat Memphis, but their whole team was sick and had no depth that night, so while they still won a game thye should have one, I don't quite have the Raptors at the top of the heap yet. Play a good game against Dallas, Portalnd, Houston, Golden State.... and I'll be fully drinking the Kool-Aid

They are showing their potential right now, but I still think they will have their growing pains this season. The future is really bright though and we may have a legitimate perennial contender on our hands for the next several years.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Loving watching this team right now though. Seems that no matter what's going on in the game, they just shrug it off and know they have control over the situation. In seasons past, you could see it on the court that when something went wrong, they were beat. Now, no big deal, we got this.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 And good god the west is stacked. 8th place team is 10-6 and every top 8 team is on a winning streak
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Especially if they can sign a good free agent this offseason. Hi Kevin Durant. reasons why this will happen? 1. He grew up liking the Raptors. 2. Masai Ujiri 3. Want to go down in history? Be the centrepiece of the first Canadian NBA team to win a championship. Play to that ego. 4-10. MASAI f***ING UJIRI

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Hi Kevin Durant. Theres probably a 5% chance of that happening. Kevin Durant can pretty much choose any team to sign with since the cap is going up by a ton.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 It's been that way for a long time. Same with the NHL. Western Conference always seems just so much better year after year.
JaysRap Verified Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Hands-bro probably gonna see his minutes cut dramatically with how good Hayes has been playing. Hans + a pick for a backup centre who can rebound please (Hickson). That's a pretty good call right there.

SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 His pick and roll defense is still pretty mediocre, as is his low post defense. His ball screening at times is a joke, he just simply stands there like a pylon without actually doing anything. I think the number is something around -8 or -9 per 100 possessions that the Raptors are while he's on the court compared to every other lineup. That's pretty telling. He's honestly like the anti Amir Johnson. Puts up the numbers without doing the smaller things while he's on the floor. Like you said he's going to get paid because there aren't many quality big men in the league who are available, but I think you should try and watch guys like Marc Gasol, Noah, Asik, Chandler, Horward, Horford, Hibbert more. This is what the whole argument with some started from. You are acting like I don't watch all these guys lol. Absolutely no way I would trade JV for Asik or Hibbert. The others listed are all top 5 C or borderline top 5. You know what they all also have in common, struggles as a young C. Compare what Noah did at 22/23 to what JV is doing. He got to learn from his mistakes and didn't get pulled immediately to completely shatter his confidence. I have no doubt that he has many flaws but you need to play through mistakes to improve upon these issues. He by far has the shortest leash of any player on the team.

There is a reason he has the shortest leash on the team though. The team has just been better with him off the court. Its a tough balance because on one hand you want to develop your young C but on the other the priority is to win games. If JV plays in the 4th Q in some of those games this team is probably 9-6 or 10-5 right now. Coach Casey is obviously trying to win games so you can't really fault him for putting out the players that give you the best chance to win in the 4th Q. I think the best thing would be too increase JV's mins gradually. JV playing an extra 3 min in the 4th Q isn't going to be the difference of him becoming a top C. He can develop playing 26 min a night while easing him into the role once him defense improves.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Durant seems like a guy that cares about his legacy. If he leaves OKC without winning anything he`s going to look like a chump. We have a chance but it`s probably OKC or Washington.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Came across these deleted tweets from Paul George. This guy has to be one of the stupidest players in the league. Besides getting strippers pregnant he tweets things out like this. http://thebenchguys.blogspot.ca/2014/09/more-deleted-tweets-from-pg.html
GD Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 The more we play like this, the higher chance we have of getting KD. We're first place in the NBA, guys. We're not just another treadmill team with pie in the sky dreams anymore. If we try to get KD, I think we have at least a semi-legit chance of getting him.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Help get the Raps on NBA TV next week in the States! http://www.nba.com/nbatv/fannight/

I laugh when people say that KD liking Toronto as a kid will make him more likely to come here as a FA. Your right in that in the very slim chance KD actually were to come to Toronto, it would because he thinks this team/org would give him the best chance to win a championship. Having Drake helps and GV going to the same high school isn't bad either but in the end KD will pick the team that he thinks is the best fit for him. It seems the most likely he resigns with OKC though. The new CBA will be very interesting as there will be a ton of free agents that offseason so we have no idea what it will mean for all these star players.

Still gonna be tough though.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Raps fans rig the vote and get their team on US TV again http://www.nba.com/nbatv/fannight/

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted November 28, 2014 Posted November 28, 2014 Funny thing is that 90% of the people who voted for the Raps can't even watch the game on NBA tv in Canada.
