I think the play they wanted to run was busted and he felt it was as good a shot as any to take at that point.

This is one of the reasons I lost interest a long time ago, now I just watch occasionally. Intentionally s*** teams get rewarded with potentially franchise altering picks and undeserving teams make the playoffs over superior teams.
