eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Hansborough should be getting minimum 20 MPG with Amir out.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 I still like JV... plenty of time to toughen up. For the love of god I don't understand why they play Hayes. He's okay defensively but you don't even need to defend him, he's option 8 on offense with only 5 guys on the floor. The problem with Hansborough is usually fouls, he's so aggressive that he inevitably picks up more than his share and can't stay on the floor for long. He was good tonight though.

Hansborough is very fundamentally sound though. Solid defender, solider scorer downlow, solid rebounder. Don't care if he picks up 6 fouls. Give him his 15-20 minutes on a nightly basis. DeRozan is so frustrating. He's so talented but I cannot believe how much he just settles for that mid range jumper. It's ridiculous. If he drove to the lane even 20% more it would make a huge difference. This team gets by on excellent ball movement. Derozan becoming a ball hog hinders that. Someone needs to have a talk with this guy.

SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Casey was starting to grow on me but his love for "grizzled veterans" and two PG lineups is proving too much for me to handle...Two of Demar/Ross/Salmons should always be in the game, our defense goes to s*** with Vazquez at the 2. Regarding JV, I think the weight he put on this year has been more bad than good. He used to have unlimited energy, bouncing off the floor, quickness advantage etc. Now it seems he lumbers around rather than springs. He is definitely improved over his rookie season. People who say Drummond is some wunderkid and Val isn't great need a reality check. Start watching Pistons games on a regular basis, Drummond is not the amazing defender he's made out to be, consistently makes the same mistakes Val does.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Drummond has a PER of 22.3, shoots at a .613 clip, 1.9 BPG and averages 13 boards a game Jonas has a PER of 15, shoots at .509, .9 BPG, and averages 9 boards a game (albeit in slightly less MPG) They aren't even comparable. Drummond can't shoot free throws. That's all Val has on him.

Novak getting minutes.... Probably has something to do with the trade deadline coming... Teams want to know if he can still play.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Val also creates his own shot much more often than Drummond does. Offensively, it's not even close. Val is superior Also that goes to show you that PER is not a be-all statistic. Brandan Wright has a 23.18 PER, I suppose he's better at basketball than Lamarcus Aldridge?
TRM Verified Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Too bad we don't have Val and Drummond, am I right. (Not that I hate Ross, in fact I love Ross.)

It would be interesting to see if that would work, because neither can really stretch the floor and both operate around the key.
theblujay Verified Member Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Ross has been working just fine so far so I'm not too upset about the whole Drummond thing. JV definitely needs to slim down a bit, and I think he's just tired from playing non stop since July
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Val also creates his own shot much more often than Drummond does. Offensively, it's not even close. Val is superior Also that goes to show you that PER is not a be-all statistic. Brandan Wright has a 23.18 PER, I suppose he's better at basketball than Lamarcus Aldridge? Of course he's not. Aldridge averages 2X more minutes... Val and Drummond are almost at comparable minutes. You can't compare Wright and Aldridge. JV is young and has room for growth but I can't see him developing into a beast offensively. Limited post moves and lacks the toughness to continuously grind it out down low. He has age on his side so who knows what can happen but Drummond is better in all aspects of the game. If you're only going to shoot at a .500ish clip as a centre, you better be an elite defender/shot blocker or you won't last that long.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Big game tonight. Time to start widening the gap in the east. I hope they sit Amir again. TH had a great game the other night. Give him a real rest through the ASB.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Val also creates his own shot much more often than Drummond does. Offensively, it's not even close. Agreed, PER is a completely useless stat. It's almost as bad as pitcher wins in baseball, there are much better stats out there.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Drummond has a PER of 22.3, shoots at a .613 clip, 1.9 BPG and averages 13 boards a game Jonas has a PER of 15, shoots at .509, .9 BPG, and averages 9 boards a game (albeit in slightly less MPG) They aren't even comparable. Drummond can't shoot free throws. That's all Val has on him. Free throws and offense. Defense is debatable as Drummond has been horrible on that end this year. JV's no stud offensively but Drummond only has dunks and putbacks in his arsenal. Drummond has one elite skill (rebounding) but the rest of his game is subpar.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Agreed, PER is a completely useless stat. It's almost as bad as pitcher wins in baseball, there are much better stats out there. I wouldn't go /that/ far.
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Lol ECJF, you cannot be serious that Drummond is better on offense. He literally has NO post moves. Just dunks and putbacks. Hence why he shoots 60%. Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, Val has a great running hook shot, a WAY better jumpshot as well as a good reverse pivot he does off of the running hook shot. Give Drummond those iso looks, he sure as hell isn't shooting 60%. As Dineke said, his defense is vastly overrated. He has been getting abused just as often as Val.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Raps starting 2-15 shooting. JV 0-5 all in the paint, aeveryone else launching 3's or long 2's.... Awful Good boards though
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Raps getting raped off the dribble tonight, so many blow-bys
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Nice bail out by the refs there for Atlanta... Should be a 3 point game but they hand Atlanta 2 free throws on a brutal call I guess the plus here is that was one of the worst quarters I've seen this year and they're only down by 5. Problem is, the second unit is going to be in the game and they can't score for s*** right now.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Nice bail out by the refs there for Atlanta... Should be a 3 point game but they hand Atlanta 2 free throws on a brutal call Borderline, but probably was a foul. More upset at Hansbrough there.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Casey strikes again. Game before the ASB and he's playing Novak, Salmons, Vasquez, and Hands-bro at the same time. He's an absolutely brutal coach when it comes to rotations. Jesus christ.

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Raps getting raped off the dribble tonight, so many blow-bys One of Terrence Ross or Kyle Lowry should be on the floor 100% of the time. Vasquez is literally the worst perimeter defender I have ever seen.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 This might be the ugliest game I've seen so far this year. Every point is a struggle. Stop settling for long 2's omg. Only positive so far is that Chuck HAyes hasn't gotten any minutes yet.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 So I'm reloading the boxscore constantly, and the score changes by like 2-3 points every 3 minutes. Our shooting with 3:48 to go in the quarter: (.316) 12-38 total FG (.800) 6-7 FT (.091) 1-13 from 3 (omg stop bricking) Lucky for us the Hawks ain't shooting too pretty either. Edit: updated
Caper Verified Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Who was the worst Raptor of all time?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Shoot 3's or die trying. Val 0-7 now with a bunch of open looks.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Ross is nails. Ugly first half. Regroup and win this piece of s***.
Caper Verified Member Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 Val needs to take some bath salts.
