There's still room if anyone wants to jump on!

16IP, 2ER, 2BB, 10K in his last two starts! The shutdown ace AA thought he was getting is finally showing up!

I didn't watch the game against the Rays, but today I was impressed by the velocity, I saw some knucklers at 79pmh so that's good news. Still overpaid to get him, but it's not Dickey's fault, I like the guy a lot.

Syndergaard is better than him.

s*** happens, give it 10 years. There is absolutely no way to tell how that trade turned out without the benefits of hindsight.

Maybe in 2016 not at the moment though and it isn't close.

He's not useless... but not worth the price we paid. Unless he goes nuts for the next year and a half... it could happen and would be nice to see.

But so what if he performs at a Ryan Dempster level?? ... Would of been nicer to just get Dempster without paying in prospects. Or kept the prospects and used the Dickey money to start an advanced research center to attach Romero's head correctly.

Or kept the prospects and just waited around and sorted through Hutch/Stroman/....

Or kept the prospects and waited a year for Syndegard to be able to go 12-10 4.40...

I guess what I am saying is he has to be elite to be worth the price... not just for 2 starts... but for the next 50. Won't take 50 starts for me to jump on the bandwagon... but not ready to jump on after 2 either.

Agree, but the Jays need to make the playoffs as well. Dickey pitching very well and this team not making the playoffs at least once would make that trade an even bigger epic fail than t already is.

You can like the player without liking the trade. I was one of the most vocal in my dislike of what I still view as an over-payment from a GM desperate to contend after selling them farm and upping the budget.

I love RA Dickey though

Good point. I like the player too. And even at this level he would be a fun peice of a championship team in the Wakefield like way...

Just sucks that we paid for a front line epic legend... not a cool 4th starter with a trick pitch.

Why does no one acknowledge the injury risk associated with D'arnaud...prior to this year he's had back injuries and knee injuries. That's not really a good recipe for a catcher....bulging disks in your back at such a young age are a very serious concern...and now with his foot injury...D'arnaud may never play a game......Pitching prospects are hit and miss and the jays needed pitchers now...If Dickey pitches well the rest of the way this won't be that bad of a deal....the jays still have sanchez. There is a serious lovefest with prospects here...some are still expecting Snider to turn things around...I mean he was the number 3 prospect in baseball at one point..

Nice that he's pitching good now... might be a little too late. Hopefully he comes into next year fully healthy.

There's something to be said about an injury-prone player's value being diminished by the injuries. It's also true that Syndergaard had just finished his low A season.

I didn't like giving up what they gave up, but if they had gotten a Matt Latos, for example, I might've been fine with it. Anyway, I think at the end of the day, the organization decided it wanted to start competing this year and didn't want to wait 3 years for these young players to reach not only MLB, but to fully establish themselves. I can understand this as they're a business and they need people watching the games and going to the games. We'll see what happens.

Hopefully! With Johnson probably walking at the end of the year they are going to need him even more.

Agree and you're even being light on the injury history

Already he's had:

Back problems

Knee problem

Hand injury

Foot injury

Concussions

and has been averaging only 84 game s per season for the past 3 years. Some of this is bad luck. SOme of this is "being a catcher". But wow it's held his progress back and some of these things can be nagging.

the big thing for me is the back...probably just because my wife has a bad back and problem with buldging disks. She's had an mri and is on meds for her back and no she isn't a fatty...she's in great shape, but I understand the issues people with back problems go through and to be a catcher with a bad back and all the other injuries..it's a red flag to say the least.

The anti AA crowd say D'arnaud and Syndergaard and the hear all star and cy young....but D'arnaud has some serious risks with his health and syder is just now pitching at AA...these were definitely taken into account when the trade was made. RA had 3 solid seasons..not one. This year he's had his own health issues and pitched through them...some believe they are not to blame for his performance...those who say that may or may not be right.

RA has pitched some great games..the last two were quality starts...in three more starts the RA bandwagon will be making a stop and people will either be jumping on or jumping off....we'll see...I predict good things because I can rationalize poor performance do to the neck and back spasms he had and because I'm just a positive person to begin with..lol

I guess I wanted AA to build a sustained winner in the way Texas had done it. I don't think trading a bunch of prospects for huge contracts in one offseason was the way AA had envisioned it. He probably got pressured by the ownership to build a winner ASAP.

Well said, not much to be added.

Speaking of bandwagons... I'm now very firmly on the Steve Delabar one. After a shaky April he's been the best reliever in the AL. In 11 IP in June/July he has 24 K, 6 BB. That's ridiculous!

Cecil/Delabar/Janssen is the best trio of relievers in baseball hands-down. It's inarguable, what they're doing doesn't happen.

Sell high? Delabar for Porcello anyone?

Posted
Why does everyone want porcello? I get the reliever for a starter but he seems mediocre.

I wouldn't personally target Porcello but, if I had the opportunity to turn Delabar in to a solid SP, even a back-end guy, I'd be all over it.

So you would trade Delabar for Happ?

If I felt Happ was a reliable back-end starter that could give +170IP why wouldn't you? I'm not completely sold on Happ yet though.
