KSaw Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Cliff Lee and his 21-team no trade contract that includes Detroit, Boston and TORONTO is not a choice. The Jays have Romero improving, Stroman and Nolin maturing, Jenkins struggling, Drabek set to relieve all year as he rehabs from his second TJ Surgery and Hutchison perhaps returning by late August... Perhaps. With Morrow likely out until mid-late August, if not out for the season, Happ not even throwing off a mound yet and Rogers running out of innings, the club NEEDS another starter...

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 Ya, I'd say that he's improving. Repeating release point and landing and with velocity up. Those are steps in the right direction. He's not short arming his pitches either. There will be ups and downs as he tries to regain form but I believe that there's been progress.

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 Funny thing is that I know several MLB umpires and they love the guy. He's all friendly, while not being a kiss ass on and off the field with umpires and during ST he's paid some umpire bar bills on the QT. Spring Training is the only place this would fly btw. He's thought of as respectful, though not very good at catching. He also apologizes like mad when he lets one get by. That's also appreciated.

People I know who have met him said he's a great guy too. I actually like JP. I just really wish he was a better catcher.

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 f*** this poll. Sorry, blame Cliff Lee. Though not all teams have been confirmed (though some are), the 8 teams that Lee has listed as his only trade destinations are thought to be Texas, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Anaheim, the Bronx, Atlanta, Miami and San Francisco.

Damn the Cardinals if they got him. Damn them. What a playoff rotation!

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I have a no polls policy. A starter I'm hoping for is Gallardo, depending on the cost, but I have 0 clue what he'd cost.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 Btw Jon Paul Morosi reported that the Yankees and Texas are also on the no trade list but that's been denied by the Phillies.

Well, may be legit He left Texas already, and refused a big offer from the Yankees, so he just might really not want to play for either. Neither seem like good bets for a WS ring either if that's his main concern these days.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Given your choices, Peavy no doubt. Guy is still a front line SP and would still be here for next season and would help ease the loss of JJ.

I just really wish he was a better catcher. Him and Drabek showed up at Grace O'Malleys the night he hit the game winning home run vs TB during his rookie season, he's a great guy to talk to. I know he's not the best catcher in the league but I don't understand some of the personal attacks against him.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 LOL @ Miami Clearly Lee limiting where he can be traded to. They are in the division, aren't a contender and wouldn't spend the money. It's sneaky smart actually.

Lee's contract allows him to change his list each year.

I would think that now that he's gotten his big payday, he's less worried about the numbers being inflated at that ballpark, and more worried about pitching somewhere that he likes.

Wow, him and Darvish 1-2 in a playoff series would be deadly
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I don't think the trade scenarios are realistic. Garza, given his name especially , probably costs a B+ guy at least. Helps he's given up 2 ER in last 22IP with 23k/5bb. Garza isn't too far from an A.Sanchez, who commanded that There are plenty of teams that will also probably be willing to take on Peavy's contract AND give up a quality prospect+
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 Garza as a pure rental who wouldn't have gotten a qualifying offer from the Cubs won't be overpriced. He has an injury history too.
