Tuco Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Unfortunately the market for SP is f***ed at the deadline and we'd have to kill the farm. Sure but even tho you dont like it theres really no way AA is going to bigtime sell. He created a few year window and this team currently just isnt good enough.
Tuco Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Baltimore faces a similar problem.. Baltimore has had this same problem for over a year but still find ways to win.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Theres really no way around it. We have to aquire another stud starter if we have any chance to become a good consistant baseball team. Totally agree
Tuco Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I've accepted that nothing will be sold. I'm now clinging to the hope that nothing will be bought. I think thats pretty unrealistic.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 That's the thing. Parks like Wrigley and Fenway have that great historic novelty but that's all they have. They're both complete dumps. I've never been to Wrigley, but at least it looks nice... Fenway looks like the whole thing is made of plywood, like the set of a low budget western movie.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Of course it. We're going to empty the farm for Chase Utley and Delmon Young. You shut your whore mouth!
Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 This team is not a serious contender imo unless we get another starter, the offense is not good enough to carry the team.

Wang and Rogers are our 4 & 5... There aren't many teams with 4 & 5 pitchers significantly better than those two, contenders or no...

There aren't many teams with 4 & 5 pitchers significantly better than those two, contenders or no... But dickey and Buerhle are still up and down, and our offense is not like the sox, orioles, imo, it's not good enough to carry the team like other contenders.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Huh? I'm talking results wise, and obviously only since they've joined the Jays, so there are SSS issues... I don't think they're a bad 4/5 for a rotation.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 But dickey and Buerhle are still up and down, and our offense is not like the sox, orioles, imo, it's not good enough to carry the team like other contenders. Dickey is the one I'm really worried about the most. I'm okay with Buerhle at #3 and I believe that Johnson will turn it around and be a very good #1/2 (full disclosure, I've always been a big, big fan of Johnson).
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I think you could easily afford to have one guy like that in your rotation but that kind of uncertainty 40% of the time is not my cup of tea. I'm with BTS on this one in that we need at least one more proper starter. Whether that's Morrow post-injury or Happ or someone who isn't in the organization. The "Rogers won't be able to pitch out the season" comment is absolutely valid, so something needs to show up to take his place late season. I'm not altogether sure who that would be.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Given that it's been completely civil for a long while now, it was totally redundant of you to quote that post just to "agree". The Jays are still losing, yet the s*** show ended a while ago. Your interpretation of "completely civil for a long while now" and mine are definitely not the same especially where it references behaviour when the Jays are losing. In my mind this place sinks to another level (also know as a hit-show) when the are not winning. Even when they are winning there are still some morons who must piss all over the good vibes taking place at the time. I hope I am also not being too redundant by posting more than a "disagree".

I do like Johnson as well, it's why I never mentioned him, too bad I don't think we have much of chance of keeping him.

The potential rotation next season looks bad. Johnson most likely bolts Dickey one year older Buerhle one year older Morrow who the eff knows what he is Hutchison question mark Happ really isnt that good Romero longshot to be anything serviceable
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Uehara isn't available for tomorrow, that's our chance to make up today's game, and then hopefully go for some profit in the next two games. Yep. I want 2 of the next 3. Badly.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I do like Johnson as well, it's why I never mentioned him, too bad I don't think we have much of chance of keeping him. It's unlikely that we keep him beyond this year, but a qualifying offer and a draft pick is not a terrible return (probably better than we'd get at the trade deadline). Though, if he doesn't pitch up to his potential this year, I'd say there's a slim (30-40%) chance that he re-ups for a year to try to build value for a big FA payday.

Not just for a playoff run. But to stabilize the rotation for next year too.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Yep. I want 2 of the next 3. Badly. It's crucial IMO, we are already 7 behind..........That bautista drop really hurts.

Sure but this team is trying to win now. Johnson bolting really hurts this rotation unless we replace him with a equal pitcher.

Johnson most likely bolts Dickey one year older Buerhle one year older Morrow who the eff knows what he is Hutchison question mark Happ really isnt that good Romero longshot to be anything serviceable If you looked at the starting rotation at the end of last season, you'd know that it looked far, far worse than what you listed here. We'll see what happens.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 I can not agree. I think we'll be lucky to get anything above replacement-level from the two. That's exacerbated by the fact that we have Buehrle, a 4, masquerading as a 3, and Dickey, a... something masquerading as an ace. I expect "replacement level" from my #5 (anything better than that is gold) and I think that between Wang and Rogers we probably get a slightly above replacement level average (for as long as Rogers keeps pitching). With the offence that this team SHOULD provide, a 4.5 ERA from the back end of our rotation should win most of their games. You're right on Buehrle, I'd prefer him as the #4, and I have almost no faith in Dickey to be more than a mom-up-long-reliever quality pitcher over the course of this contract (with the occasional gem out of nowhere, I guess).

Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 28, 2013 Posted June 28, 2013 Sure but this team is trying to win now. Johnson bolting really hurts this rotation unless we replace him with a equal pitcher. The Jays absolutely cannot give him a $100M contract, which is what he'll be looking for in FA.

That's my issue, i don't think this offense is that good, they seem to go long stretches of futility way too often. Not enough patience, poor plate approach from too many batters.
