The decision actually isn't a response to Wednesday's pro-same sex rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court, but actually a show of support for the Seattle community. Its 39th annual Seattle Pride Parade is also Sunday. Rebecca Hale, the director of public information for the Mariners, told Q13 TV in Seattle: “We’re part of this community. Our fans are a reflection of our community. We thought this was an appropriate gesture on a day that is very meaningful to the LGBT community." Q13 says it's a history-making move, as the Mariners are the first MLB team to fly the rainbow gay rights flag at a game. The Mariners, however, couldn't verify that. The flag with fly along with the American flag and the flags of fellow American League teams, which are standard practices at Mariners games. This is a much different story than in 2008 when a lesbian couple claimed discrimination when they were asked not to kiss at Safeco. The Philadelphia Phillies have a Gay Community Night that started way back in 2003 (progressive!) As you might imagine, that's angered some people over the years. At the 2005 Phillies gay night, there was a confrontation between a group of Christian fundamentalist protesters and the gay pride group. Nonetheless, the event continued and is in its 11th year. This year's event is Aug. 7. That day the Phillies are also playing the Cubs.

Secondly, your children are so mentally fragile that flags can change their sexuality? I hope you either a) never procreate or put them up for adoption ASAP.

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Growing up in Toronto ive definitely not been around people who were open with their disapproval in the homosexual life style, but you know its messed up when people you think are respectable people like Tori Hunter come right out and say they would have a problem with being around a gay teammate. Not sure if its any different out west/east in Canada
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 homosexuality will someday be as accepted as women voting
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 You mean it hasn't yet? Not in the south... it's brutal there. Racism also. As far as we've come, this world is still f***ed up.

kcjaysfan Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 stop the gay agenda This "agenda" you so loathe is an attempt by decent people to provide the same basic fundamental rights to everyone, and to stop discrimination. let gays do their thing and dont promote their behaviour Your ignorance of what homosexuality is astounding. These aren't people just acting out fetishes. This is who they are. They weren't indoctrinated, or coerced into being gay. They just are. i dont want my children growing up in a liberal gay society What you want is a theocratic, exclusive society that frowns upon those perceived as different. There are a number of Middle Eastern countries where you'd fit in. its degenerate No, what is degenerate is people who are so closed minded and hateful that they want to prevent certain groups of people from having the same basic rights as everyone else. i would have no problem if my kids were gay but i dont need these flags influencing them If you ever happen to have kids, and they are gay, it won't be because a rectangular piece of colored fabric flapped about in the breeze a bit. inb4 being gay is not a choice I refer you to my above point about your ignorance.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Everyone is gay in Seattle anyway, not sure the big deal
Jeffrey_Paul Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Eventually, all forms of personal freedoms will win out. Those who oppose the progression of personal freedoms will be looked back upon as oppressive and bigoted. I hear about how disrespectful some politicians were during the voting process (such as loudly chewing gum, in protest), it's absolutely unbelievable. Yes they have the right to voice their opinion, that is democracy, but if they choose to do so in a disrespectful manner then they should be dismissed from the process and have that marked on record.

I'm gay and I can tell you I think my "behaviour" should be promoted. I want to work hard, earn money, meet a decent guy who I love and who will love me, settle down, start a family, and be an accepted part of the community. That doesn't really sound "liberal," it sounds pretty much like the 1950s to me. Someone should write in the Sheldon Coopers Fun with Flags to see if flags influence people. It would be interesting to find out.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I understand the "lets treat them normal" but normal people don't get flags that represent them flying high. If anything all this pride stuff makes them stand out more? That being said, this is probably just a stage till it becomes fully acceptable.

It doesn't really say anything besides "my country thinks I'm better than people who aren't like me. I am afforded basic rights that you aren't."

Hard for me to judge since I've grown up in a place that is so accepting to gays. It's hard to picture a society that treats people different.
