A few more Phillies losses and Michael Young becomes available. Delabar and Bonifacio would probably be enough. They like Boni, though the reason escapes logic as far as I'm concerned. Just play Izturis at 2b and Young at 3rd. When Lawrie comes back, shift Young to 2nd.

Young at 2B makes me sad... I wound never do that deal...

fun fact, Steve Delebar has a higher WAR this year than young.

I'd rather wait till the offseason. With Reyes almost back, Izturis playing better and Lawrie back in a couple of weeks, there would be 2 weak spots, C and 2B. Cabrera hasn't performed great, but I'd like to think he'll get it going, a DL stint wouldn't hurt.

If by a few weeks you mean 5-7 weeks, and you want to get by with Izturis at 3b and Bonifiasco at 2b until then, by all means don't make a trade. And while I get how good Delabar has been, there are so many good relievers in the organization and more getting healthy. Selling high on a relief pitcher with no options when there is a line to fill his role and address a team weakness seems logical.

I make 2 trades (as mentioned before)...

Nate Schierholtz and Matt Garza from the Cubs for a package around Nolin (Nolin, Rogers, Sierra and Thon) and the Phillies deal for Young I just suggested.

I'd hate to lose Delabar, our bullpen is unbelievable right now and I'm not sure Young improves the team that much. Izturis has been raking lately and is probably the best option at second with everybody healthy.

Crap? If you say so. But if you really don't think that he can play 2b, put him at 3rd. His mobility has been more than solid for Philly this year at 3b btw. He'd be a gigantic defensive upgrade at 2nd over Bonifacio.

We don't actually have that many good righties in the pen. Janssen, Delabar... Wagner, McGowan? We need Delabar and Michael Young is crap. Can't play second either.

I'll prefer to Betancourt instead of Michael Young

That's a hell of a lot for a rental (who is coming off a very serious injury) and a platoon bat. If AA is giving up Nolin I;d prefer to get a pitcher with control, like Norris, Iwakuma, Miley, EJax, etc

Rafi Betancourt? Yuni is having another well-below replacement season, Boni is 100% better.

Dominican sarcasm.

I don't like the Michael Young idea; he is old, very old.

Damn scouts get paid and a free trip to San Deigo to tell AA that Volquez sucks. We could all do that for free.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the scouting reports for Brett at 3rd bad too? When he was coming up I heard LF was his final resting spot.

The guy has a rocket arm, why would he be put in LF?

Is there ever a point where we trade for younger players again? We can't just keep going all in for old, expensive or talent who aren't sticking around long.

If they're giving up top prospects it should only be for good young players. AA has the core for a winner here, we'll have to wait and see how he adds to it. Fingers crossed we don't have Amaro 2.0 here.

If it was LF/RF I'm not sure... just trying to think back to scouting reports as he came over to the Jays.

Headley would be a great get... but you gotta think long term... he's going to be super expensive after 2014...

I'd focus on: 1. SP 2. Rental OFer (Melky isn't doing it for me) 3. Catching depth.

DeJesus might be an interesting pickup from the Cubs. He alos has a pretty cheap option for next year.

Buehrle's contract expires after 2015, that would open up the money for Headley but, a year late. It will take creativity to find the payroll space for that one season but, with some young guys finally reaching the high minors it should be possible.

Buehrle will die the next offseason because of dog bite and the Jays will not pay his entire contract.

They have to do?

I really wouldn't want anything to do with Volquez, and I really doubt that Anthopoulos wants anything to do with him. Teams like to use the Jays name to raise the value on their assets and this seems like a classic case of that.

I have no doubt that scouts were there, doing due diligence on Volquez, but also checking out other players.

Volquez is the only pitcher who can walk JP twice in the same game...............................and Romero

They're both bad and you say as much... 'Dominican' sarcasm sure is strange.

Blame the Wild Cards for this, they're like Credit Cards...make you think you're richer than you really are!

Does this mean someone in the Jays FO actually looks at FIP? No way they'd be looking at someone with a 5.67 ERA unless they know he has a much lower FIP (4.16).

The silver lining. f*** you Eric Wedge

Nah it's cause he throws hard.

Sure, during an offseason. Not when you're contending and looking for a piece or two. Nate Schierholtz isn't an old player and would be more than a rental. Selling high on Perez is just smart. His value is down the road. He probably has no more than 60 innings left this season.
