Most experts agree that Romeros problems have been mental, not mechanical. Yogi Berra said baseball is 50% physical and 90% mental, well Yogi was a better baseball player than a mathematician, of course he meant 10% physical and 90% mental. I think what happened with Ricky was two years he was unconsiously competent, then became incompetent, both consiously and unconsiously. So with practice without him knowing how the brain works, he can become unconsciously competent again. So I expect him back. BTW, being "unconsciously competent" is what seperates a great guitarist from a beginner. I mention that for some people who don't understand what being "unconsciously competent"is. As for Lawrie, he has an altogether different mental problem that may or may not be resolved.

Huh? Pretty sure that the experts who count know that Romero was short arming with a sore elbow. Then he had surgery and tried to regain form with proper mechanics, something he never really had, in order to keep his elbow healthy. He found that pitching in pain or pitching unlike himself netted the same results-- no command!

Now he's trying to just pitch the way he used to and it'll probably work until two years from now when his UCL is torn up.

Btw, Yogi was joking.

Firstly, Yogi was great for his quips. They're funny, they're not meant to be taken literally. If baseball was 90% mental, some of the better posters on this board would be perennial all-stars.

Secondly, What in the everlovingf*** do people not understand about Lawrie being TWENTYf***INGTHREE YEARS OLD?

Thirdly, "BTW, being "unconsciously competent" is what seperates a great guitarist from a beginner." is unmitigated ********.

Deadpool & Spanky a great guitarist has become unconsciously competent, because like a beginning guitar player who has to THINK about how to play the C Chord or the G chord etc until he becomes unconsciouly competent which takes a lot of practice, what do you mean it is unmitigated B.S.? The beginners goal is to become unconsciously competent, which takes a lot of practice. Yogi wasn't very educated, which makes many of his quotes so funny, Like Dizzy Dean who also didn't go to school, both men were very smart especially when it came to baseball.

A great pitcher like Ricky who once was great, (unlike a great guartist who knows why he is great) can start asking himself, why am I so good, and worry about losing his great touch, similar to a person with OCD's his head gets all screwed up. He just needs to go back to thinking like he did when he was at So. Calif. He can get his thinking straightened out again and become the Ricky Romero he once was. Some people like to over use the word troll???

People are frustrated by the fact that Lawrie is getting worse every year, I can't say I blame them... his approach and attitude are awful.

Every year? It's his second full year. Even if he never hits he'll be a average third basemen ( roughly 2 war) for his career. On a his league min contract, that's good value.

Don't try to down-play it. He's turning into a really awful player... it may be years until he turns it around.

You also have to factor in the baggage that he comes with.

Who exactly knows what hes like in the clubhouse or how his teammates really feel about the guy but from a far I wouldnt blame someone for thinking it could possibly be tough playing with the guy. Listen I'm a huge Lawrie fan like many others but the guy needs to grow the f*** up ASAP. Has a boatload of talent but if hes not receptive to coaching and cant start acting like a mature adult I question if he will ever come close to fulfilling his potential.

Sorry to be all O/T in this thread but...

Dude, I've been a musician for over 20 years now. The difference between a beginner and an "expert" at guitar is practice (and natural ability)... A beginner has to think about how to play a C chord, sure... But even a general novice at the instrument is past the point where he has to remember how to form the chord. The idea that once you know where on the neck the notes are is all it takes to be amazing is just silly, knowing how to play notes without consciously thinking about where it is is an important part of playing any instrument, but it is far from the line between beginner and professional.

I can easily, without thinking, play you any chord or note on a guitar but I'm a very, very mediocre guitarist (I'm a drummer first and foremost).

Deadpool, somehow you are misunderstanding me. I play guitar too, do you remember those F chords especially in the beginning, a beginner can't get his fingers to do what seems so unnatural, but with (by the way many beginners threw their guitar away after having so much trouble with those F chords) persistence they are shocked after awhile they can do it!!!

Again you seem to be misunderstanding me. Sometimes you wish Noah and his Party DID miss the boat.

I misunderstand you? A beginner figuring out an F chord does NOT make him an expert, no matter how easily he can get his fingers to "do what seems so unnatural" (even though an F chord really isn't that far from a C chord, and most people just bar it anyway which is dirt easy.)

Sometimes you wish Noah and his Party DID miss the boat.

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean... Unless you're wishing that all life on earth ended in a scientifically impossible event, sure, why not. Wipe 'em all out and turn the planet into another desolate rock floating through an uncaring universe.
