G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Everything else is looking good right now Hitting, bullpen especially, but even the defence is looking decent right now. The other AL East teams are stalling, especially the Yankees Red Sox and Rays. We finally broke through the 7 games under .500 barrier. You feel like we COULD be on the verge of a run. But you know what they say about momentum in baseball... Well, today's starter is none other than reigning Cy Young winner Dickey, a guy who has had what, 2 quality starts for us so far? If EVER there was a time we needed him to step up, this is it. If he goes out and throws a great game, we ride the momentum. If he goes out and sucks, gives up 5-6 runs right away, all the air comes out of the balloon very quickly. What's it going to be? Can't wait to find out.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 Ugly stat: Dickey allowed seven runs on 10 hits during his last start against the White Sox. It was the third time in his past four outings he allowed at least six runs.
Wilnercibia Verified Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 This Excuse filled turd ball better come to play today, none of this 5+ earned through 6 innings 100 pitches ********. I don't wanna see 4 walks and tons of 3-1 counts Pitch like you did last year for the love of god
DwightDM Verified Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Totally agree, need a big game out of Dickey today, not really because it would start some magical streak, but more because if comes out throwing BP again anything positive we've built up over the past week or so will sink quicker than the Titanic.

Yep. If Dickey doesn't turn it around it hurts our chances next year badly too. And makes the loss of prospects all the more painful. We have a lot riding on this guy.
DwightDM Verified Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Not to mention, taking at least 3 of 4 from the Rangers would be a pretty good start to at least becoming a decent team. Then getting to face the Tulo-less rockies at home.. there's a good chance to string a couple of series wins together. Series splits aren't going to cut it at this point.

I agree. At least skip one start and give it to Wang or Rogers when Morrow comes back. It would help if they won today and took at least 2 of 3 against the Rockies and Orioles.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Well, today's starter is none other than reigning Cy Young winner Dickey, a guy who has had what, 2 quality starts for us so far? 8 of Dickey's 14 starts have been quality starts.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 8 of Dickey's 14 starts have been quality starts. Seriously??? I was obviously exaggerating on purpose but... I didn't look it up but it feels much worse than that for sure
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 Even if we win this by scoring tons of runs, but Dickey sux, I'm not happy.
Llakas Verified Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Sad but true Dickey is the worst pitcher we have and is a momentum killer
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 Even if we win this by scoring tons of runs, but Dickey sux, I'm not happy. Especially considering the Rangers are throwing out another scrub pitcher today Pound him But I want a good outing from Dickey regardless
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 15, 2013 Author Posted June 15, 2013 27 degrees today in Arlington with hardly any wind (5km/hour) Zero weather excuses today. Nice warm day. Hardly any wind. Need a good performance.

I didn't look it up but it feels much worse than that for sure I think it's because the bad starts have been horrible and quite embarrassing. The 13-0 Boston shelacking. The Mariners teed off on him. The White Sox in his last start. I'm sure I'm forgetting another one in there.

You forget about the "decent" ones

A bit harsh, methinks. Dickey has been an epic disappointment so far, but he strikes me as a decent man who is having struggles that hit every star at times. He doesn't have the arrogance of a Romero or Arencibia, which is a red flag for the likelihood of taking on criticism and growing from adversity.

Watching Dickey struggle is particularly tough because he's the type of guy you root for. I really hope they continue to play well for the next little while, then Morrow gets back and they at least skip one of Dickey's start if not 15-day DL him to rest his back.

He's pitching through injuries and has gotten lit up a couple times. He hasn't had very many good starts but, for the most part he's kept the team in the game and given them innings that they desperately need.

Exactly , which is why when we do get some pitching depth that is coming we put him on the DL and try and get him healthy enough to be able to throw his hard knuckle ball

Dickey is upset over his performance more then anyone, these guys are competitors do you think he likes going out there and struggling? YEs it is now or never for him, I along with everyone have been disappointed in him, but it is sports, its how it goes. All this personal hate for who seems to be a great guy is typical of human beings ignorance.

Some people actually think players who struggle like Dickey has, do so on purpose or are not trying hard enough. Things have really gone badly for this team and no one thought it would play this badly and have as many injuries as it's had, including those who have called for a complete teardown. Things don't always go they were they're supposed to. I was pretty mad at the team earlier and have pretty much declared the season to be over. I'd love to be proven completely wrong.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Lets risk our season while we wait for R A Dickey to turn it around Glad you pointed that out, no sense throwing Dickey out there over and over when we have Cy Wang sitting there ready to throw CG shutouts every outing.
Buster Verified Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Is the BP rested enough to consider yanking RAD if he sturggles early today?

Kev , I liked the big Wang deal cause we had nothing at this point and who knows . Even with the s***** infield defense we have he could bridge us with a couple of quality starts ( Catching lightning in a bottle ) till we get some pitching back and who knows when JJ and Morrow go back on the DL . He,ll give up his hits but if we can turn some double plays behind him and he doesn't give up that big inning we could win some of his starts with our offense and then if we have a double header or god forbid more injuries we still have Jenkins in AAA . better Wang than Bush, Vargas or Ortiz .
kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Is the BP rested enough to consider yanking RAD if he sturggles early today? Dickey will give us 6 or 7 today even if he gives up 5 runs so lets hope the offense continues to score runs
