ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I heard Zaun say on tv that JPA is like Mike Piazza so that sums up his intellect.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 If we can get something for him, why not? Davis is valuable but he hasn't a great value in the market ... A contradiction.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Brayan Pena is Cuban (Yunel's friend)... you sure you want him?!? Not, now Brayan Pena is Dominican. He play here at DWL every single year lol
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Well he sure can't play Cuban winter league lol. Where do you draw the line on which Cubans to hate? Hell! Cuba will play in the Caribbean Series since 2014.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Old school team might have been attracted to JPA when the SLG% was there. I didnt mind him when he slg'd .500 but thats all done. Doubt team wants him. But as good news to everyone here, i dont think he will be in Jays future without the slg
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 I think you were trying to troll.. but really it's not a bad idea. Moving Janssen to a contending team that's willing to pay for it may be a really good idea. I'd hate to give up Jannsen, but I imagine he would have pretty good value to a contender (he's consistent, good, cheap, etc). Plus we have some potential bullpen arms to replace him in Delabar, John Stilson and potentially Marcus Stroman someday. I guess it depends on what we get back. Detroit doesn't really have anything I want other than Castellanos and Garcia.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Author Posted June 14, 2013 I don't support it, but what do you guys think we could get for Lawrie? Probably something pretty f***in' good. We'd need to rebuild some of his value first I would think. I can see Seattle being interested in him even with Seager already at 3rd. You know how they love those BC boys for marketing purposes (Saunders, O'Neill, Gillies before they traded him).
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Ehh, agree to disagree. I like the kid. Isn't he older than you?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Isn't he older than you? He is, but I have a bad habit of doing that. Meh.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I love talking trades, back when I was a kid there was no free agency so the only way players traded uniforms was trades, it was much more exciting then, but still exciting. I'd trade Jose for that great second baseman in a heart beat. Jose is overrated. You have me stumped on the Josh Johnson trade, but lets keep our fingers crossed and hope the first draft pick for him will be good. Johnson has done nothing for us this year, and he thinks some GM will be dumb enough to give him a bigger contract then Jus. Verlander!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Apparently, in Bowden's last article, he mentioned rumors of a Buehrle/Ethier trade? Can someone copy/paste? http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/the-gms-office/post?id=6861 I would assume it's that one but I'm not sure, just going off what someone said in the sportsnet chat. That would be a f***ing horrendous trade.

DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Holy f*** what a terrible contract lol Buehrle's or Ethiers? haha I do have to say that Ethier would be the perfect platoon-mate for Lind and that Buehrle is really old and sorta bad. The Jays really need Buehre's innings right now though so no chance this happens.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Phillies wouldn't trade a seasoned vet like Buehrle. The Amaro Jr way is more like Gose for Eithier. No way this is happening though. The Jays staff is in splints and shambles.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 So we trade Buehrle for a player who is no better than Buehrle, but is locked in forever for the same money at a position where we don't need help. We've gone full Phillies here. No way AA moves Buehrle. While most of us would probably want to rid us of his contract, Buehrle is the only guy who hasn't gone down this season and as sad as it is, right now is probably the best pitcher in the rotation. AA will look to patch this s*** up for 2014.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 He would if he's looking to the future. 5 years of a 25-hr 90-RBI bat is probably really attractive to AA. He probably won't be here in the future, so its a moot point.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I do have to say that Ethier would be the perfect platoon-mate for Lind Both are LHH.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Ethier's numbers are incredibly weird. He's hit almost twice as many career home runs at home as away (which considering where he plays ...), and aside from this season hits lefties fairly well at home but can't touch them away.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Both are LHH. Ya nvm, they both hit righties well. Ethier isn't going to happen and it doesn't make any sense.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Was just going to comment that he's exactly the same player as Lind lol. Terrible defender, can't hit lefties, ~20 HR power with one breakout season. We have no use for Ethier. Lind >> Ethier $998987878 Millions 2018
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Lind is worth so much more concerning the contracts. The Jays should sign Baker in the off-season. That would be a kick ass platoon. Jeff Keppinger bandwagon is over?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Unfortunately, this appears to be gaining traction. http://blogs.thescore.com/djf/2013/06/14/bowd-insanity-buehrle-for-ethier/ (Slightly NSFW because Stoeten and the picture)

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 It's gaining traction in that people are forwarding it, but there's no chance it happens. I'm not worried at all. AA is stupid, but do you think he's saying "Hmm, we have no pitching, let's trade our most dependable starter for a platoon player we have no room for?" It doesn't make sense, where the f*** would they play Ethier? And they'd have to call up another scrub to pitch. AA mind or three-way deal: Buehrle, Ethier and Jays get Aumont + Bastardo and Ethier salary

But I'm not holding my breath, I doubt this happens.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I'm not prepared to handle an Ethier acquisition. He's owed $70 million over the next 4 seasons (age-32-35) and will struggle to be even league-average. I hate that there's no doubt in my mind that AA is interested in that PRODUKSHON. Whether he's interested in the production or not, there's no place to play him atm. If that trade actually happened, there'd have to be something else in the works too, or either Bautista or Edwin would have to move to 3rd long term. So let's assume that the other rumour (Profar for Bautista) was the second half of that. What would be your opinion then?

Also... I wouldn't MIND Etiher, but cash would have to come back, or some prospects... Actually, I'd love Ethier, but not on that contract.

I would ask which is worse, JPA extension or this, but it's moot, they're both happening.
