I was at the game today and he was throwing 97 on the stadium gun. It seems like his fastball is even better then it was before. I wasnt able to see the movement since I was in section 221 and he didnt throw many off speed pitches so I couldnt gauge them either. If his arm holds up, he instantly gives us the best stuff on the entire organization. His control isnt there yet, buy hopefully that will get better as he pitches more.

This is yet another case of the Delabar shoulder strength program working off. Cecil, Delabar, Mcgowan. The Jays need to encourage all the pitchers to go on it. Atleast the guys who are injury prone like Santos and Morrow.

If Mcgowan pitches well for a while, say a month or two, do you start stretching him out as a starter? You can do what they for Rogers and pitch him 50 pitches one game and work up from there. Hes definitely got the stuff. FB that touches 98, and a slider and a curveball that are both good pitches.

He hit 98 today. Pitched a good inning, DeRosa screwed him.

What happaned, or what was the reason he only pitch one third of an inning and how did he look

Walked the first batter, then second hit a DP ball to DeRosa who clanked it failing to get an out anywhere. 3rd batter was hbp (earned it too in the ribs with the high heat). Struck out the 4th, I believe on a 98mph fastball. I'm guessing he was relieved to keep his pitch count down first time back. Following batter hit a line drive to Bautista who completed the DP at the plate.

McGowan's stuff looked great, but he was a little wild. Fantastic life on his pitches.

Didn't see him today, but I remember his short return in 2011 (I guess it was?), even though his numbers didn't show it, his stuff looked fantastic.

I don't know if Delabar's program is great or not,.... but I don't think it can hurt. I would put half the organization on it..... Just today I was looking up a pitcher for the lansing lugnuts who cam within one out of a perfect game. Kramer Champlin struck out 10, retired the first 20 batters he faced before a ground ball snuck through the infield.... he then struck out the next batter..... Anyway, I instantly wanted to know if he had any prospect potential, because I never heard of the guy........ 6'6" great off speed stuff... but said his velocity is not that great (or something to that effect).... I instantly thought... get him on the Delabar program.... give him a few more mph on his fast ball.....

Janssen, Cecil, Loup for sure

Rogers for now cause he's starting

Who else?

Get Ricky on it right now

Plus give him a manliness supplement

There's gotta be another GM who will trade 2 position players for a reliever or is AA the only one? Hopefully there is and they can trade Oliver and maybe Lincoln or Wagner for some kind of prospect. I know a lot of people expect Perez and Wagner to blow up soon, but they both have quality stuff and with Cecil and Loup as lefties, Oliver is really not needed...maybe he can retire and open up one spot.

Agree re Oliver

He seemed so critical this off season

But with the new and improved Cecil, plus Loup, we're all good for LHP in the BP.

Trade Oliver and ? To Texas for a useful position player

Perhaps STL would move Wong for relief help. It would take a lot more than Oliver though.

Oliver Wagner and Bonifacio

That's a REALLY good bullpen now

Santos is all but forgotten. What a waste of $$$

Very strong and when you think that Drabek and Stroman could reasonably be fighting for a spot in August as well it gets even better.

Posted
I'd do that deal but, I'd to try and hang on to one of the arms if possible. (Obviously wouldn't pass on a controllable 2B to keep Wagner or 42yo Oliver)

It might take a Delabar and I'd do it. Basically you would've turned Thames into Wong.

I want to see the Blue Jays give Stroman a real shot as a starter so I'd be against sending him back to the BP in August. Stilson and Carreno are 2 guys that could make the BP stronger so I'd go to either of them before Drabek and Stroman. Drabek and Hutchison need to be sent to AAA when they come back and left there for the remainder of the year season. Call them up in Sept if they want.

The MiLB season end in late August, Stroman better be with the big club in some capacity come September. However, as you rightfully stated, Stilson/Carreno seem like the best immediate BP options on the farm. Both could help the Jays immediately if necessary. None of those guys are on the 40man though so it would take some roster shuffling to get them up.

Agree

Stroman should be planned as a starter

If he has the endurance and the rotation is crowded you have a trade chip

If he can't cut it, then he's bullpen as plan B:cool::cool:

No thanks I'd have both Drabek and Stroman starting, will be nice to have some legit SP options in the case of injury unlike this year. With Hutchinson, Stroman, Drabek, and Nolin that should be some pretty solid depth ready to step in

Posted

How the heck do you go from being barely able to lift your arm/looking like your career is over to coming back at age 31 throwing nearly triple digits?

I smell stell cells!

Posted
I don't want to call up Stroman for the bullpen unless we're in a pennant race, and in that case make him a three-innings-at-a-time super reliever.

If not, let him work his way up, learning fastball command.

Agreed 100%. Stroman should be starting. With Johnson walking next year, Romero blowing chunks, and Morrow looking like a #4-5 at best.. we need as many guys competing for starting spots next ST.

I think we are forgetting Stroman is 22, advanced for his age and has other plus pitches. I agree that he should get as many innings as possible this season but, I could care less how they are distributed between the MLB or AA level. If he is going to be a SP he needs to be stretched out in the minors for now. However come September he should be up when rosters expand and the MiLB seasons are over.

If the Jays plan on relying on Stroman in the rotation next year, they absolutely have to get him MLB innings this season.

It's ridiculous that hes hitting 97. I don't even know how its physically possible to have multiple surgeries and still throw that hard. Especially since he isn't a kid anymore. Hes 31.

Most 31 year old men can out perform a 21 year old in

physical prowess providing they are of similar body shape

and weight, so not being a kid is a plus.

Of course a 21 year old has more good years

to go , but that's another issue.
