GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Not in an elitist mood. Just troublesome about all the crying going on in the thread. I'm not sure I like where this is going, but we're fans. "Fans" is short for fanatics. fanatics plural of fa·nat·ic (Noun) Noun A person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal, esp. for an extreme religious or political cause. A person with an obsessive interest in and enthusiasm for something, esp. an activity. Of course we're gonna be crazy, I don't think it's anything to be mad about, really.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Are you kidding? That's a huge deal. I've lost any credibility I once had. I'm ashamed. I will now take my leave. lol As I said, not a big deal. But how can't you know about Rookie, A-, A, A+, AA & AAA. But somehow be upset we're missing out on Amateur prospects that 99+% of fans have seen very little of?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Its not a big deal. But in this case you have a poster squawking about missing out on prospects and can't figure out the Minor League structure.....seems odd to me. I think you have your reasoning for why I'm a moron mixed up. Which is peculiar, because there are plenty.

Tell me with a straight face that just because someone made a mistake and doesn't know everything about something, means their opinion is completely invalid. Because if that's true, there aren't any valid opinions whatsoever. I'm also kinda f***ing amazed/scared you remembered this despite it was a random post multiple weeks ago.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 U upset he doesn't do what he says? Awwwww no, just linked the fact that he has done a U turn all many his policies that were his mantra the first years on the job. he also just fired Blank-O and he had promised him he wouldn't. what are AA's core beliefs now?
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 If we have enough bonus money left for one player (let's say 1.2mm or more) who would you guys want to sign? Or would you split it and get 2 guys for 600-700k each. Considering Sanberg went for 775k maybe we can get Tellez and Martinez for 600k each.

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I disagree. There are some very nice hitting prospects: Healy, Denney, O'Neill, Milone, etc. If we went MAINLY pitching I wouldn't be half as mad. But ALL pitching in the EARLY rounds? I strongly disagree with it. Even if we had gone mainly pitching in the early rounds but taken a chance on one of the good bats, that wouldj be pretty satisfying imo. How do you like how the jays are developing Dean, Davis, Anderson, Nay and etc? New scouting director so different approach I guess. 5 years we'll know if this was a good draft

admin Site Manager Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Can one or two of you do a full draft recap after it's done? This is probably the least I followed in ten years.
Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Hahaha at the amount of PMS in this thread This place (and the old board) reads like the Leafs HF boards.
Folkways Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 (edited) Do you have a study showing this? __________ Devastating hook? His curve isn't great. There are a ton of studies that show an 18 year old pitcher is more likely to improve more then a 21 or 22 year old pitcher. Just like in hockey a 18 year old rookie in the nhl almost will always improve significantly by the time they reach 21 or 22. If an 18 year old can throw 94 and a 22 year old throws 94 who do you think has more potential to reach the high 90's? It's common sense. If we were to rank Mcdavid in hockey talent wise with the top prospects in hockey he may not be top 10, but most teams would probably take him top 3 in the draft. That is why 20 year old hockey players who are ranked skill wise equal to top picks in a draft are taken way later. An 18 year old like Bickford with the ability to throw 97 mph has never had to rely on an off speed pitch. So it's unreasonable to assume his off speed stuff has maxed out when he likely hasn't even attempted to develop an off speed pitch. Edited June 8, 2013 by Folkways

McDavid would go 1st overall in this draft and every other draft leading up to his actual draft. Still weird/stupid the Jays took so many pitchers but I guess when you completely empty your farm system for aging, broken down pitchers you gotta start somewhere.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 You have to wonder if maybe we'll go position players for the international signing period in July.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 You have to wonder if maybe we'll go position players for the international signing period in July. Like who? We only have a small budget and most of these guys are ridiculously raw. Aldemys Diaz would be an awesome signing, but I don't know if he's a July guy or an offseason guy.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 I don't have much time to follow the draft, so thanks to those who have been posting scouting reports and mock drafts. Not saying that I love the Bickford pick, but besides the big arm and frame, you have to like the fastball command drills his dad put him through. If he has good command of his fastball, he's ahead of so many other high schoolers even if he doesn't have plus secondary pitches yet.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 They can sign for more but anything over 100k comes out of your budget... yeah, I know Do you think that will left over money from the first 10 rounds? lol
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 It looks like they cut pre-draft deals with both Bickford and Hollon. So there could be a few hundred thousand left in the budget. Bickford 2.5 (save 400K) Hollon 750 (save 400K)
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 yeah, I know Do you think that will left over money from the first 10 rounds? lol I'm hoping so, it would be a pretty brutal draft (on paper at least) if AA doesn't snag a couple guys today.

Still weird/stupid the Jays took so many pitchers but I guess when you completely empty your farm system for aging, broken down pitchers you gotta start somewhere. I am just guessing but perhaps the Jays scouts don't feel as confident in their ability to project hitting prospects vs pitching prospects. I liked the Anthony Alford gamble they made last year though, hopefully he craps out in football and plays with the jays farm. It would be nice to see them go after some hitting prospects with high ceilings. Though its possible they don't know who the high ceiling hitters are. With pitching they seem to just go after big frame, low age, high velocity guys. I wonder what their criteria is for hitting. I wonder if they value bat-speed more vs batting avg, or speed vs power etc.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 hopefully he craps out in football and plays with the jays farm. He had just about the biggest clusterf*** of a season that a quaterback could have and he still hasn't committed to baseball. This guy is looking like a two sport bust because he's in love with the wrong sport.
