Apparently 1B are the new under-valued market inefficiency money-ball pick. What are your thoughts on the guys that are left, do any of them have a chance to be a special bat at the MLB level?

 

I ain't ace, but keep your eye on Ryan Healy. Corner IF. Stellar bat. And Martarano would be a great sign. He kinda sucks at football, worse than Alford, 37th ranked of 40 LBs or something, and his bat is HUGE. 1st/2nd round talent. 6'2" 230 or so, so if he wants to stick at third he'll have to lose a bit of weight, but he profiles really nicely at 1st.

Although I really wanted them to pick Shipley, Bickford seems like a fine selection. I feel like they could have gotten him later in the first round, but 10th was what they had.

 

Hollon I don't know much about, but I like him. Seems like a buy low candidate coming off an injury.

Oh, then yeah, this I agree with. I'd probably put the closest at Syndergaard. Huge fastball, no secondaries. Worried about Bickford's lack of a swing and miss pitch because he may not be able to just blow that fastball by guys at the MLB level.

 

 

 

I think he'll make it to us. He'd be an amazing addition.

 

Hoping Denney in the 3rd, O'Neil in the 4th. Then I'd say AA had an amazing draft.

Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep an eye out for the names. From the article I read the inefficiency was true 1B, not guys that have big bats and move though.

Denney in the 3rd would be a still! I was upset they passed on him in the 2nd...

 

I can't believe Denney has lasted so long, probably the best hitting catcher in the draft and the tools to potentially be an above average defender. Drafting him makes the second pick alright.

Oh I'm not going to wrong them for taking BPA, because clearly they did with two more arms. I just can't say I'm OKAY with it, we all know it only gets worse post draft day.

Denney is the top high school hitter available, but he has plenty of company, including outfielders Ryan Boldt (No. 39) and Cord Sandberg (No. 56), and catcher Chris Okey (No. 52).

 

College pitchers make up a large percentage of the remaining group, including right-handers Bobby Wahl (No. 30) and Andrew Mitchell (No. 40), as well as left-handers Kent Emanuel (No. 69) and Matt Boyd (No. 72).

 

Only four college position players ranked in the Top 100 remain undrafted: second baseman JaCoby Jones (No. 63), outfielders Jared King (No. 74) and Michael O'Neill (No. 83) and first baseman Brian Ragira (No. 94).

 

As usual, some of the top high school players who were not selected Thursday were likely passed over due to signability concerns. Right-hander Connor Jones (No. 53) told teams last month he intended to uphold his commitment to Virginia. Right-hander Kyle Serrano (No. 43)

O'Neill, Milone, Brentz, Whitson, Healy, Covey, Martinez, Quantrill, hell isn't Denney still on the board? PLENTY of guys still available.

 

I like Brentz and Quantril a lot but they apparently want a lot of money to sign. Denney probably wants 1st round money too.

Longhi has a really good chance to hit according to his reports. PG said he's like a right handed Dwight Smith without the defence.

 

Baseball America was raving about how underrated Rowdy Tellez was. I was never that high on him, as he always seemed like a poor man's Joey Gallo with major contact issues. But they claim he's a better hitter than people think, and has the best usable lefty power in the class.

 

In college Ryon Healy from Oregon is a really good hitter. Got Evan Longoria comps pre-college. He's not that good, but he has a good combination of hitting ability and power.

The top power bat in this year's draft class [from Oregon], Healy is rivaled only by Oregon State sophomore outfielder Michael Conforto for best power in the state, regardless of class. While he's seen time at third base, his natural position is first base. That profile puts a lot of pressure on the bat, but his impressive offensive tools and power surge this spring will give organizations enough confidence in the bat to make him a top three round pick, possibly working his way into the second round. His approach at the plate is controlled aggression, he takes violent hacks at hittable pitches and also recognizing when to take or fight off pitcher's pitches. He's always put on impressive power displays during batting practice, and as he's advanced as a pure hitter it has begun to translate into games on a regular basis.

This is why I hate reading these threads. Every poster on here thinks they know everything about each draftee and say oh AA should have went after this guy, or that guy. Most of us have read about these guys whether scouting reports from BA or ESPN or Keith Law, or maybe have watched some YouTube clips on them for about a minute or two though thats about it. We don't know as much as AA and his scouts do so to say well the Blue Jays should have made this pick over that pick is foolish. Unless some posters on here have actually scouted that player in real life or watched him pitch or hit live, then I can understand.
