GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 6 foot 4, 17 years old and throws 97. Yeah let's fire AA! You do realize Shipley was still available?
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Feels good to have prospects again to follow!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 A guy who is considered a tough sign, committed to Cal State Fullerton Wtf, he's a tough pick too? Why didn't we go Harvey of Shipley? WTF?
Randy The Robot Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Overreacting, Bickford is a really good pick.
RIPEXPOS Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I don't see how anyone can be mad at this. He already throws as hard as Shipley, is just as raw, yet has 4 years of more projection left on him. I like it.
theblujay Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I am shocked at the reaction of the pick. It's not like hes crazy off the board. One of the best arms in the draft. Reminds me a lot of the Syndergaard pick actually. Just higher. The problem is that Shipley is way more advanced and much less risky.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I know Bickford is looking for big money (reports 3mm), but maybe we offer 2.5mm and play hard ball. If he doesn't sign we a pick again in next years much much stronger draft. Maybe Gareth Morgan.
Flashman Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Why wouldn't we just take Shipley? Way closer to the bigs and more of a sure thing. Surely it doesn't matter because of the knock-on effect. If Bickford shines as the Jays' best pitching prospect, then it makes pitching prospects higher up the chain expendable as trade bait (to bring in bona fide ML talent). So long as the Jays got what they consider to be the most elite talent available to them, then it's all good.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 The problem is that Shipley is way more advanced and much less risky. Shipley may even have less ware on his arm, he's that new to pitching and is still really advanced. Ugh. I'm not mad at taking Bickford, I'm mad at taking Bickford under the circumstances we did.
mitchf Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Frankly I just don't trust our organization at developing a player. It could've been anyone and I'm pessimistic.
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I'm just mad we missed out on Austin Meadows, one pick from ours. Same thing happen last year with Lucas Giolito ffs. A 17 year old who hits 97 mph looks pretty good but, also a huge risk.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Seattle - Reese McGuire (Zunino, Montero, Brown and McGuire) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>JPA
mitchf Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Are you kidding me we have done great with high school arms.... The Lansing 3 doesn't impress you? Hah. Re-think this one.
Caper Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 I am shocked at the reaction of the pick. It's not like hes crazy off the board. One of the best arms in the draft. Reminds me a lot of the Syndergaard pick actually. Just higher. Are you really shocked? I find it hilarious. No one on this board knows much of anything about these guys.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Did Reynolds just call Daryl Strawberry a perfect role model and mentor for a young black kid in New York? lol
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Are the Pirates gonna get Meadows AND Shipley? Cole, Taillion, Meadows, Shipley, Polanco, Hansen, Mathieson, holy f***ing s*** that's amazing. E: With McCutchen in the MLB. Jesus.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Maybe there's something wrong with Shipley, everyone's passing on him. I love the live feeds of draft parties, if I were a prospect I'd definitely stay home and have a party rather than be there in person. The Mets and Mariners are stacked on pitching so I think we're the only shocking pass on him atm. If San Diego/Pittsburgh pass on him, something's up, I'll be less pissed, and I'll start wondering.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 nobody wants Shipley Makes you wonder what kind of dollars he was asking for to keep sliding this far.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Who do we want at 47 tonight? Riley Unroe is at the top of my board, but there's a bunch of other players I like in that area as well. With our luck he gets taken 1 pick before us.

Good for the Pirates tho, they have sucked for so long..(so have we lol)
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 They also said that about Beede to some extent. "We know where his heart is..." or something to that effect.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Keep in mind that many prospects will not be picked until later due to signability concerns. Shipley was a risk.. as he has a good shot of going back to school.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2013 Posted June 7, 2013 Solid pick from San Diego! Renfroe's a good player. Starting to wonder on Shipley although this was a bit of a predictable pick as well.
