Tuco Verified Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 On PTS right now. Blair just said with 100% confidence that by the end of the year Lawrie will be moved to second and Jays will be looking for a new 3B. I know Blair can be really dumb sometimes was just extremely interesting to hear him say this.

Third basemen are easier to find.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Lets see if he plays 2B when he plays at AAA with Reyes...if so I can see Edwin moving to 3B and Gose playing the outfield with the rest of the outfield trading days at DH.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 I'm sensing Sanchez + Gose + Osuna + Davis for Wilson Betemit.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 It's easier to find a good hitter at 3B than 2B, this could be a good thing. Maybe they've already identified some offseason 3B targets. Lawrie would have be able to play the position of course. Maybe not as crazy as it sounds on the surface. For one thing, we aren't even sure the bat plays at 3B any more. Also, it's entirely possible his defence has improved on the whole, maybe he can handle 2B now. He basically plays a deep 2B on the shift anyway. If it doesn't work out you just slide him back to 3B.

He has become an easy out and a bust, but because second basemen get paid for their defense, NOT OFFENSE, Lawrie may have a chance there, more over its less likely Lawrie will run himself into a solid object playing second like he has done so many times playing third base.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 more over its less likely Lawrie will run himself into a solid object playing second like he has done so many times playing third base. I have no doubt in Lawrie's ability to find solid objects to run into no matter where he plays I'm not necessarily opposed to the move, but I don't think now is the time for it unless Bautista moves to 3rd (which he won't with a sore back or he'd be there tonight rather than EE).

I don't think that AL pitchers are laughing about Lawrie any more than they are about JPA, Izzy, Boni or Blanco...

Lawrie is good defensively but does not have the bat of 3B (for now)... Headley please lol
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Lawrie is good defensively but does not have the bat of 3B (for now)... Headley please lol Don't suggest that, AA will trade 85% of our prospects to get him
backontop Verified Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Does AA and Beeston always listen to Blairs advice? If Lawrie isn't willing to be the weak hitting second baseman for the Jays the rest of the season, I don't want to see Lawrie in a Blue Jays uniform in 2014.On PTS right now. Blair just said with 100% confidence that by the end of the year Lawrie will be moved to second and Jays will be looking for a new 3B. Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 It actually might be a good thing. We need a bat that plays at 3B and Lawrie's bat right now does not. If he can even be an average 2B defensively, it could work out well.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Either that or Reyes moves to 2B and Kawasaki sticks at short until a better replacement is found. That really shores up the D.
backontop Verified Member Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 AA to Beeston, "Jeff Blair on Sportsnet radio said we plan to make Lawrie our everyday secondbaseman in 2014, WHAT DO YOU THINK?"
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 2B Lawrie 3B Bautista CF Gose RF Colby Needs to happen, and I vaguely remember that Bautista said something about his back being unrelated to 3B.
Shogun89 Verified Member Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 If they plan on moving him to 2b seriously they should move him there right now then so he can work out any defensive kinks. This season is already a write off so use it productively in prep for 2014.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 It's a good move. Imagine having a guy who can actually hit a baseball play 3B? Wouldn;'t that be somehting.
Dr Negative Verified Member Posted June 1, 2013 Posted June 1, 2013 I'm not convinced that the best way to solve our abysmal SP is to cripple the defense even further.

Colby is great in CF, and I'm pretty sure Gose has a better arm anyway... I'd do Colby CF, Gose RF (if that was the option...)
