You guys had already decided it was a rush job, his start had nothing to do with it. Confirmation bias.

Ahh no. Go look at my posts and I didnt mention anything about a rush job.

I was taking a wait and see approach and the kid clearly wasnt ready.

Just awful management from AA.

AA should be fired.

How does this man have a job?

It's not like Nolin has phenom stuff. He doesn't seem to have MLB stuff, that's for sure.

6 runs in two innings, and garbage stuff?

Um, no.

AA is in full out panic mode.

I expect a trade very soon where we give away whats left of our farm for some starter.

It's possible that his bosses won't let him.

His Boss?

You mean Paul Beeston....one of AA's biggest fans!?

Had Nolin done well most of you would be praising management for finding a solution.

Nolin didn't look like he "wasn't ready", just made a couple mistakes and fell victim to some BABIP bad luck.

Umm thats the whole crux of a callup like this.

If he comes up and does well, then management gets credit for knowing the kid was ready.

If he comes up and gets smoked, then management will rightfully get roasted for such decision.

Keep making excuses for AA or management but this kid has hardly pitched above A ball. Please tell me why they just didnt use Chad Jenkins instead?

It is what it is, he's a hittable guy that depends on deception. Usually those guys have good starts and then the league catches up with them. Seemed like they could take advantage of that at a time when it was pretty much needed. Didn't work out...which means that he loses an option year that wasn't needed. He'll be in the bullpen or DFA'd one year earlier. I feel justified not putting him on the last top 30 prospects I did...Mike McDade 4 life.

unacceptable

AA needs to go

nolin? ortiz?

remember guys this is the same guy who kept playing a guy who had not won in 26 straight starts

we have no ability to evaluate talent

This team is a failure from top to bottom. To bring up a raw kid with very little experience and expect him to perform was idiocy. Then they replace him with a 90 year old stiff who nobody else wanted.

Jays will never amount to anything, but Trolls like Spanky will always Support them.

Disagree. The first inning was pretty crappy luck for the most part. Nolin will be fine

I agree but he's still not a guy I believe in much.

Poor Nolin. Basically put in a spot where it was almost impossible to succeed. f***ing idiot GM

I agree with Dirk Hayhurst who said the Jays were rushing prospects to the MLB. I hope Nolin gets a second start.

THIS ORGANIZATION IS f***ING RETARDED

I don't understand why Ortiz is even on this roster, he's garbage. Why isn't Jenkins, who looked rather good in his last start, not being given a chance????

Why the f*** would you call up a kid with 30 IP in AA................................????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to admit that the poor kid only had 30 innings above A level.

The issue isn't whether Nolin looked good or not. The issue, at least for me, was that he had made 6 starts at AA, 3 last year and 3 this year. He had also only made 3 starts this year because he was injured for the first month. I have no clue what the point of rushing him for this start was. Were they planning on keeping him as the 5th starter once JJ came back? If it was just for one start, it's even a worse decision.

Anyway...

AA " If the O's call up 22 years old Gausman then I can call up Nolin"

I didn't want Nolin up but this game has absolutely 0 effect on my opinion; two unlucky innings make no f***ing difference.

For sure, I was against the callup before and would still be against it if he had pitched well so him pitching badly doesn't change it either. Anyway...

+1 Very well said. It's baffling what the Jays are doing. I doubt AA thought that Ricky Romero would be a basket case this year.

Bringing up RR after 1 start in A ball was another dumb move. The guy stunk it up in ST, they demoted him so he could work on his new delivery in ExST. Then they deemed him ready after 1 start? I mean come on, who can respect this FO?

Nolin isn't really a wasted start, is he? I think he's a level about those shitbags.

Wasted starts tracker:

Ortiz: 3

Romero: 2

Laffey: 1

Jenkins: 1

Nolin: 1

Total: 8 starts, -0.3 WAR (before Nolin's start), 2-6 team record

Not only can we not develop talent in the minors but who exactly is giving AA the advice that these guys are ML ready?

I cant believe how far this FO has fallen in my mind. I used to defend basically all of there moves and think they were some kind of new age super group (AA being a genious, and Tinnish being a draft wizard) but it turns out these 2 guys along with others look badly overwhelmed.

Really the only thing that might make some sense is that they brought up Nolin because some other team is interested in him via trade. You see this stuff all the time in the NHL..not sure how often it happens in baseball.

I really doubt thats even the case and AA&co prolly just panicked and thought "heck why not".

I dunno - smoke and mirrors lefty with poor stuff and only 30 innings above a-ball. He shouldn't be in this rotation.

Doesn't he sit at around 92 in the minors or something? I'm not sure, but I think his second inning was an aberration velo-wise. Devlin was talking about it.

You talked about luck earlier which is cool and prolly somewhat true.........but do you honestly think it was going to get any better from there on out?

Dude would have prolly given up 10+ runs tonight if they let him pitch 4 innings. This is one of those rare cases where I think the results (good or bad) can directly be put on management.

Guy comes up and does well. Then I would be signing there praises that they knew what they were doing.

Guy comes up and gets shelled and I'm going to call them out and say it was a really dumb callup.

If you're going to bash Nolin being rushed, you can also criticize other organization for rushing certain pitchers like Chris Sale (10.1 IP in the minors), Mike Leake (0 IP in the minors), Rubby De La Rosa(also rushed from AA), among others.. not all organizations can be the Rays, you know. Many organizations can't just progress top prospects through the minors.

Heck, Mike Trout and Manny Machado were actually rushed from AA to the majors as well.. most organization do this to top prospects that are too good for the minors. Look, there wasn't much the Jays could do.. Johnson is a week away.

I don't think this was his start, but I don't think it's enough to judge him on. Also, not to be mean, but you seem like captain hindsight.
