Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I am too lazy to read through all the posts right now, so I apologize if this was already posted but Gibby said Gose will not be an everyday player according to rotoworld, so it doesn't look like Melky will go to the DL. "Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Monday that Anthony Gose will not be an everyday player." This makes a good deal of sense imo. As Dinger said, this gives Mottola a good chance at helping him on his hitting, and gives us a late inning defensive replacement / pinch runner. I think this is all about fixing Gose's swing/approach with the guy who probably has the best chance of accomplishing it.
KSaw Verified Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Dare I say move edwin to 3rd? or is Lind that much worse than a sore melky in LF? if so.. Edwin to 3rd and lawrie to SS, defence couldn't play any worse anyways. Edwin would pull spot duty in LF before ever playing 3b again.
KSaw Verified Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Head shakes. Lets call up the highest ceiling guy even if there are players more prepared to help the club win now.

Nobody and I mean nobobdy is better qualified for the role that Gose will be used in. You literally couldn't ask for a better defensive replacement. I don't know why people keep over-analyzing this move. It has nothing to do with Mottola or Gose's prospects long terms. The team could use Gose's skills in the short term and that's what they are doing. It's a temporary move. Very minor in the grand scheme of things.
oakville69 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Don't they need a speedy OF? You need someone who can play LF or CF. Gose can be a late inning replacement for Melky.
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 AA is a master at demotivating all of our minor league players. Doesn't matter how you perform. He's already pre-determined who he likes and who he doesn't like.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Sierra will play cf tonight That'll be good for a chuckle or two

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 Very nice that a callup can be there in a couple of hours instead of flying from Las Vegas

At first I thought this must be sarcasm because our defense has been the most disappointing part of our season , then i realized this was a serious proposal I thought this board would be a huge improvement and get rid of the stupidity posted on the MLB board . Then I read stuff like this and realize Stupidity is everywhere in this world and not just limited to trolls .

Gose is on the 40 man roster , simple as that . I agree that others could help more but we already have a 40 man roster nightmare. It is only going to get worse as the guys come back from the 60 day DL

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 where the hell is Negrych? He's in Buffalo (oh wait, you were being rhetorical...)
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 For a good reason....what Dylan proposed was preposterous. True, but kgm went a biiiiiiit overboard lol.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 where the hell is Negrych? Not on the 40 man roster. That's the simplest explanation.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 The guy hitting .227 in AAA ball.....................season saved lol.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 What I do like about this move is that lets say Sierra/Negrych/anyone else plays well, what are we going to do when everyone's healthy? At least if Gose plays well we have an option (which is trading Rasmus without worrying about what the casual fanbase thinks ... although after spending a week at the cottage with a group of casual fans I'm not sure how much of a casual fanbase we have left anyway). Right now Gose is exactly what I always thought he'd be (a guy that has power but can't do s*** when he tries to swing for the fences or a guy that is a slap hitter and tries to use his legs/eye to make him get on base enough to allow his running and defensive skills to get him passable value. However a couple of guys that I always compared him to (Carlos Gomez and Austin Jackson) showed K improvement eventually and became very valuable CF's. Don't know if now is the time to bring Gose up or not it is time that this team have to start looking at where this team might be next year...without giving the appearance that they are deserting the plan (or what they thought was a plan)

He's already pre-determined who he likes and who he doesn't like. Which player in the minor leagues would be dismayed with Gose getting promoted? Jays need a replacement for Rajai Davis. The options are Sierra & Gose. I am not sure if Sierra can play CF. Gose thought he was playing CF late in the game & nearly collided with Colby Rasmus

Trade Rasmus at the deadline & replace him with Gose. Keep Rasmus & give him arbitration for 1 more year & see if Gose improves his hitting in 2013? A few years ago, everyone wanted Colby on the team. Now, he strikes out too much, hits 20-25 HR's, but still plays good defense & needs an interpreter when he speaks to the media.

No one is giving Colby a long term contract this year He'll go year to year on arbitration Neither AA or another GM is likely to gamble on him being worth more than he'll get in arbitration

He's going back to the minors when Davis comes back. He won't get an opportunity to stick with the club (nor should he frankly).
oakville69 Verified Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I don't even know if Colby will go year-to-year again, he'll get non-tendered if he can't turn it around. It would make sense to trade him for another reclamation project. I doubt he gets non tendered. Would AA try & get another bullpen reliever for Rasmus? 2b prospect? SS prospect? What's Rasmus worth in July 2013 ?
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I really wish Gibbons or anyone in management would grow a pair and sit Rasmus down and explain to him that Gose HAS to play CF if hes in the lineup because of how great he is out there. I thought baseball was supposed to be the game of no egos.

I think that the Jays front office are working on perception more than baseball sense (which they lack) and Colby is one of the few guys they can move that makes it appear like they are still moving forward. He's going to get probably $6M in arbitration next year and should still have some trade value to a team that wants 1.5 years of a CF who's K-Rates should normalize. Stubbs with 2 years of Arbitration still got Choo. Rasmus can probably bring in a young struggling starter which will give the Jays some options if they continue to have injuries. Then moving forward what do we do in CF...well a smart F.O would turn copy Texas and create a true platoon with Gose and someone who can only hit lefties (Preferably younger, cheaper and a better defender than Rajai but as I said our front office isn't that smart). Gose against Righties and someone like AJ Pollock against Lefties is probably a 5 WAR CF and would give the team so much more for options. I know there a bunch of guys that I truly thought had to be platoon guys that eventually ended up hitting well against their weaker split but that still doesn't mean that you can't start a younger player out and almost never let him see a lefty or rightie. There is practice and Spring to work on your game for future years.
