G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 @BlueJays: The @BlueJays have recalled OF ANTHONY GOSE from @BuffaloBisons (AAA). RHP MICKEY STOREY has been optioned to Buffalo.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 I was expecting a call up of a position player at the expense of a bullpen arm. But I didn't think it would be Gose... Get Thole up here people.
Hemingways007 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Just saw this on my twitter feed. I was expecting them to drop a reliever, but I did not expect them to call up Gose. I thought they were going to call up Sierra.
Shes_buehrle_legal Verified Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Odd move, are they planning on playing him regularly or use him as a bench player?
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Melky to rest a couple of games or what? Maybe Rasmus' new hairdo was the last straw and they wanna light a fire under his behind? I guess they miss Rajai's speed
BJBirdy Verified Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 He's not MLB ready yet. I hope this isn't a permanent solution.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Melky to the DL anyone? Wouldn't surprise me... I sure hope not though. I was hoping for Sierra, ugh.
digiblader Verified Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Thought it'd be Sierra--but Gose can play CF, and it allows them to keep Bonifacio either on the bench or at 2B. And with Jenkins not expect to start until the O's series, we might as well add a position player--we had 9 arms as is in the bullpen. Gose's AAA Buffalo numbers, FYI: .227 AVG, .343 OBP, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 36 R, 5 2B, 2 3B, 23 BB, 41 Ks. Hey, he still has to be an upgrade over Bonifacio..
tmath Verified Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 In all serious. Its hard to get excited about this move, like someone else mentioned, it probably means Melky is heading for the DL. Excited to see Gose though.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Season saved! Edit: Boo to not being allowed all caps!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 Melky to the DL anyone? Decent chance
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I just don't understand why melky was playing anyways.... the amount of running he did the last 2 series has been dumb
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 Melky to the DL anyone? If that we're it they wouldn't have had to option Storey though Still could be in the plan but...
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 I just don't understand why melky was playing anyways.... the amount of running he did the last 2 series has been dumb Lind to the bench isnt a good idea right now
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Lind to the bench isnt a good idea right now Dare I say move edwin to 3rd? or is Lind that much worse than a sore melky in LF? if so.. Edwin to 3rd and lawrie to SS, defence couldn't play any worse anyways.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2013 Author Posted May 20, 2013 I'll begin by stating that I'm a big Gose fan and I think he's our CF of the future But right now: - The team is in a vulnerable spot with chance of completely blowing the season with tough opponents coming up - Gose needs full playing time to develop his hit tool - Gose is slumping right now Add that all up and it doesn't make much sense to call him up now
declan_44 Verified Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 If Gose stays up and the Jays fall off the map, do we see Rasmus shipped off?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 The defensive improvement alone is massive here. Melky is wearing cement shoes out there.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 It must be such an incredibel feeling to have someone like Trout or Harper jump up out of your system and just take off like they have. Would be so exciting. We're stuck with a bust in Lawrie and a taller/more patient version of Juan Pierre.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 -Anthony Gose Interesting insight into his struggles. I think they may have called him up in part to give him some support if he's this down and it might be a good idea to let him know that they're behind him and maybe working with Mottola for a bit may help him. I like the guy, he's still not 23 yet and he's improved his BB%, the strikeouts are the same as last year and I don't think he's a .220 hitter in AAA, I can see where it's gotten into his head. Not saying he's a .280 hitter in MLB either, but his defense and baserunning are a plus. Let's hope this callup does him some good.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 -Anthony Gose Okay, wow, the stuff he said, this kid is really mature. That's really good to see. Granted, why the f*** would you bring him up NOW? When he's in a slump? That's just so retarded. I love the idea of Gose as our CF of the future but come on AA, seriously?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 Yeah I agree, I remember everyone hating him last year because he wore chains and he was called cocky, a douche, etc. Yeah, I don't see that at all anymore, the kid is pretty hard on himself, but he's realistic.

While as fans we tend to exagerrate the bad and good (and I am guilty) it is no exagerration to say this has been the most demoralizing 40 games in Blue Jays history (when compared to expectations). There is just nothing fun at all about this team. It's like anything remotely good or exciting isn't allowed and must be crushed. Lawrie - it would be fun and exciting to see a young player develop -- so the baseball gods crush him.

It doesn't seem to make sense to bring him up, but maybe they're trying to lift his spirits a bit? Maybe they want Mottola to work with him a bit? Maybe to get him out of the rut his in for a bit? I know I'm reaching here, just trying to make sense of it.
