It doesn't seem to make sense to bring him up, but maybe they're trying to lift his spirits a bit? Maybe they want Mottola to work with him a bit? Maybe to get him out of the rut his in for a bit?

I know I'm reaching here, just trying to make sense of it.

I guess they figure he won't play much, he'll have time to clear his head, and work with Mottola a bit, and bring some value through speed and defense.

way too much excitement for 227 hitter being called up...

I guess were desperate for anything

To be fair he has a .343 OBP

Gose has played in 551 career MiLB games, I don't think the hit tool has much/any developing left. I bet they'll find a way to play him most days a week, not concerned about that aspect of it.

Agreed, Gose has nothing left to learn in the minors. He'll never have a plus hit tool or probably hit lefties respectably, but it's time for him to start learning at the MLB level. The K rate is down to a reasonable 22%, he's walked well at every level, and he has a good history with Chad Mottola. I hope he's up to stay.

If he's up to stay, though, how do you not Profar him and get him some actual consistent playing time? Rasmus' value probably isn't very high right now.

Interesting insight into his struggles. I think they may have called him up in part to give him some support if he's this down and it might be a good idea to let him know that they're behind him and maybe working with Mottola for a bit may help him.

I like the guy, he's still not 23 yet and he's improved his BB%, the strikeouts are the same as last year and I don't think he's a .220 hitter in AAA, I can see where it's gotten into his head. Not saying he's a .280 hitter in MLB either, but his defense and baserunning are a plus.

Let's hope this callup does him some good.

A BABIP of .297 is well below what you'd expect from a speed player like Gose. By rights, he should be hitting .250-.260 with a BABIP between .330-.350.

I don't really buy that. Pinch running and defensive replacement opportunities will be frequent, he'll play almost every day regardless. Hopefully he's doing lots of work with CM on the side for his swing and confidence, but he can contribute to the game as a PR/Def specialist. He needs to prove that he's capable of being a starter.

That would make sense and it would put his OBP around .360. The encouraging thing is his BB% and having your OBP .100 points over your BA is pretty decent in my book. If he comes out of his funk and raises his BA to around .250-.260 by season's end, I'd be very encouraged, not so much by the numers, but by his overcoming this slump.

That's completely fair but he won't be able to prove his bat in that circumstance.

Best case scenario here is Colby gets hot, Gose gets a few ABs and hits somewhat well, we trade Rasmus and let Gose take over.

Only has a line drive rate of 13.9%, though.

He's clearly not swinging it right now, but at least his discipline is good. He has a history of hitting well under Mottola, hopefully he can spot something in the swing. More than anything, it sounds like Gose needs to get his confidence going. A few early hits would go a long way.

I really think a big part of the reasoning for the callup is to have him work with CM. Another thing is giving Cabrera a breather late in games especially on the turf for the next 9 games.

I still think Melky will be hitting the DL. He can't play a passable OF right now.

Yep. I don't understand why this move is controversial. While Davis is out, the team needs somebody to be a defensive replacement and pinch runner for Melky. Gose is ideal for that role (better than Davis actually). The fact that he isn't hitting in AAA is not really the point, he's not going to get starts. He's just going to be Melky's caddy for awhile. The team has been pressing it's luck by waiting so long to do this. They needed another OF a lot more than they needed f***ing Mikey Storey.

I am too lazy to read through all the posts right now, so I apologize if this was already posted but Gibby said Gose will not be an everyday player according to rotoworld, so it doesn't look like Melky will go to the DL. "Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said Monday that Anthony Gose will not be an everyday player."

He was hitting so well recently, at this point I think it's more mental than a hitch in his swing.

Personally I'd say that we bench Melky a couple games just to give him some rest, but not put him on the DL, I don't think AA wants people going batshit over another DL move.

Gose is a competitor, I think he'll rise to the challenge and find his swagger.

Oh no, a Dinger thought!

I sent him a tweet but jeebus he's cutting it close

Should someone else make it? I could probably whip together a place holder and then when Fatcow's ready he could send me the proper post.

Thought: Kevin Pillar could get called up to take his spot, right? I'd support that.

Make it 2! Time to see him play against guys his age.

Melky to the DL anyone?

Why can't they DH Melky? I suppose they need Lind at DH. It's sad that we have a DH who can't hit LHP & can only play 1B

I suppose Gose is here for his defense, but Pillar is an adequate defensive replacement as well, lots of outfield assists.

this move screams desperation

AA is trying to salvage a lost season and moves like this wont change that

he needs to go
