harvey16 Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I think for us to have any chance at the post season we need to be at or near. 500 by the end of this month. We would need to go 14-4 until the end of the month to get back to. 500. Though daunting it's not impossible. Winning this series in Boston would be a good start.
LGBJ29 Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 thats too short term, you cant just demand a quick fix. 5 games back at the all star break and youre well within reach whether its division or wild card.
Wamco93 Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 100% agree the all star break to be still close would be a nice goal to set, then Reyes coming back should be that spark needed.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I say by mid season is more realistic.
harvey16 Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 I think we need to be thinking shorter term right now. We need both short and long term goals, another good goal would be to win every series for the remainder of the month. We do that and we're right back in the thick of things. We need to start winning cconsistently now.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 MAy? End of june, they still have half a season to try and get into a wild card race....
Tuco Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I say by mid season is more realistic. I agree. The goal should be back at .500 by the 80 game mark. Then go 50-30 over the last 80 and you'll hit the 90 win mark and be right there.
Wamco93 Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 well I have seen us get off to great starts and still come up short in october while teams like the Yanks start off slow and are there at the end.i still believe in this team they will be in the thick of things in late september.

As long as this team plays good consistent ball the rest of the season, they will creep their way back into the mix. Obviously a big winning streak gets them back quicker, but we can't, nor should we expect that to happen.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 .500 by the 70 game mark is my expectation for the season to not be completely f***ed (if it isn't already).
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 .500 by the 70 game mark is my expectation for the season to not be completely f***ed (if it isn't already). That's a 20-11 stretch after todays game. Possible, but probably a bit unlikely. If they go 25-16 over the next 41 games that gets them to .500 by mid season with Reyes coming back, not a bad spot all things considered.

BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 That'll be nearly impossible. Honestly, if this team can get back to .500 by early July or so that would be quite impressive. Ideally they do that and add Reyes and then can go on a bit of a run in the second half, at least for a wildcard.

Yeah, I mean, at this point if the Blue Jays gave us some meaningful games in August/September, what more could we ask for given the hole they're in? On the other hand, AA might take that and just blame injuries and bad luck for the start and keep the team intact for next year.
Jules Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 One REALLY good month or two mediocre months and they're back at 500. So long as things don't go horribly wrong like April there's no reason why not.
Dude Verified Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Jays need to get back to .500 by the all star break to give it a realistic shot? Said everyone everywhere. This was the case when we we 11-20 it's still the case 15-24.

This is true, but the Jays would need at least 2 of the AL East teams to collapse. The Yankees with the Jays B Team have done much better than anticipated. Baltimore is playing well. The Rays could falter. Red Sox are slowing down, but will they collapse? At this point, if the Jays got to 85 wins, I would be be very happy.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I think the goal has to be far simpler. For the hitters, have good plate appearances. Make the opposing pitchers work to get you out. You do that and they will start throwing you hittable pitches. For the pitchers, trust your stuff and make them hit their way on instead of issuing free passes. That's where I would start the speech. After that, just talk about winning the game and series you are playing. If you win series' you start to avoid those 3+ game losing streaks that just cannot happen if you want to contend
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 That's where I would start the speech. You can give a pretty good speech. I assume AA will be in touch with you about an MLB contract shortly.

ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 I don't know if it's worth giving a shot, I just realized the Blue Jays are 5 games behind the 4th place Rays, might be better to tank for the #1 pick.

The Jays are 9.5 games out of first and 7.5 games out of the wild card with 123 games remaining. They could be back into the mix with a good two weeks.

Seriously though, I agree, but my big concern is that with a good stretch AA may sell off what little's left down on the farm for another 30something year old. No doubt we're all just waiting for that 20 game stretch where they go 15-5 or 14-6 to get back in it.

I get that people don't want to further weaken the farm, myself included, but surely AA will if this team gets back into it and I really can't blame him for that at this point. I can blame him for getting this team into this mess in the first place, but what's done is done and he really has no other choice than to push forward with this.

Yep I can definitely see a trade where we basically deal off basically everything minus Sanchez (Gose, Osuna, DJ Davis, Smoral, Nolin etc etc). I also wonder how much more payroll ownership would allow AA to spend. Not saying we necessarily have the pieces but a trade of like Utley/Lee or similar players for our remaining prospects would be in the realm of what AA will prolly do.

I am sure he has some room to play with if this team is legitimately in it and right now they probably have to get to .500 by mid season for that to happen I would think.

Ive always believed that you just need to get it within 5 on the first day of September to make it interesting, so 7.5 games is honestly nothing imo. I think they're going to bounce back and get hot soon, but im obviously biased
