oakville69 Verified Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 This is a thread to discuss the latest comments from Mike Wilner's Jays Talk. Jays Talk can be hilarious after every loss when fans call up to complain & Mike shots them down. Mike like to confuse some fans by cherry picking stats & being as optimistic as possible about the Jays. I like Mike but sometimes he gets desperate to efend his point of view.

It will be interesting to see if Wilner changes his tune soon... if they do ever decide to fire the Beest and do a complete culture change Wilner the cheer-leader will have to go. Right now Wilner just wants his nice paycheck... maybe get the play by play gig full time. But if all of a sudden if there is a new Sherriff in town, getting rid of stench everywhere he see's it Wilner's only path to survival will be to frame himself as the cranky outsider who was oh so critical of the 1994-2013 decades of disaster. I would say when Wilner changes his tune could be a sign something is brewing....
RickJay Verified Member Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Nobody projects the organization's problems onto the broadcasters. Pat Tabler continues to be the color guy on TV despite sitting there through years of incompetence and being just about the least informative color commentator in the history of sports. I cannot remember him ever saying anything insightful I couldn't have heard from the guy sitting next to be at the ball game. The broadcasting team is a different business with different priorities, and Wilner's keeping his job has little to do with how true or intelligent his comments are - in fact, you can make a pretty strong case that they want stupid announcers (see: Pat Tabler.)

They're both owned by Rogers so they could be run together. You are probably right in that they are both different businesses with different priorities. But if a true culture changing president is hired who knows... maybe they'll want to project class and intelligence in every aspect of the organization.

I would say when Wilner changes his tune could be a sign something is brewing.... Since Wilner was suspended in June 2010 for arguing with Cito, he has become a Rogers apologist. He rarely criticized Farrell despite Farrell's poor bullpen management. He is googly eyed for Gibby. On the plus side, his play by play calling is improving. I suspect when Jerry retires. it will be Hayhurst & Wilner doing Play by Play.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I don't know who else listens to the Jays talk. But listen to the guy who calls around the 15:45 mark.... Robbie from Toronto.... that guys used to call all the time last year... he uses a different name every time he calls..... what a loser, but I love it when he calls.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 this caller is delusional -AA did a good job building this team -It's just a slow start -we lost because of the umpire LOL
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 -we lost because of the umpire We'd likely have lost anyway, but that umpire made it impossible to know one way or the other.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 we lost because we have a useless piece of trash hitting 5th

Rajaifailedgrade1 Verified Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 im shocked at how nice all these callers are.. he must have friends and family calling in He knew the attackers were coming tonight, so he had his screeners make sure only relatives and friends made it through, with fake aliases. Wilner wants a nice clean show
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Anyone think they're trolling him by being nice to him?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 im shocked at how nice all these callers are.. he must have friends and family calling in you really think he's got friends?? it's clearly staffers. lol
Flashman Verified Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Anyone think they're trolling him by being nice to him? There was a particularly good troll last season who managed to get Wilner to talk, in detail, about the physiques of players. It took Wilner a good couple of minutes to catch on. Sadly, they cut the call from the catch-up recording on the website.
DH12 Verified Member Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 1 out bases loaded and everybody's ok with swinging at that first pitch by arrencebia lol
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Wow this s*** got ugly................and dumn. ok, we clearly know that rogers has stat guys digging through the numbers to find obscure random SSS stats to make their players look better to the weak minded fans, why dont they use that resource to make the team better instead???

oakville69 Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Author Posted May 25, 2013 Recently, Mike Wilner pointed out that if you take out the 1-8 record against the Yankees, the Jays record looks a lot better. He also said the Yankees would not be in first place if they didn't play the Jays.
RickyWalks Verified Member Posted May 25, 2013 Posted May 25, 2013 If you take out all the losses you're the best team in baseball. Why stop with removing a measly 9 games?

He also said the Yankees would not be in first place if they didn't play the Jays. If you take out all the games where we lost we are an undefeated team right now. I don't know why Wilner would bother saying that point. Why would we cherrypick and remove losses against a tough opponent?
Caper Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Mike Wilner with the great reverse troll.... Andy from Mayberry.
Caper Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 What happened? It was just kind of funny... Caller introduced himself as Andy from Mayberry... setting himself to troll Mike hard..... Wilner called it and hung up on him 5 words in.
deadlee Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 I vote for one troll a day on JaysTalk!
deadlee Verified Member Posted May 28, 2013 Posted May 28, 2013 Caller claims MB lost 15lbs from the beginning of the season. Mike vehemently denies it. Getting a little rattled maybe? #hereshoping
